Index Authors open to PM Concrit [List]

Here at the JC Fan Fiction forums, we have an opt-in policy regarding constructive criticism. Authors can decide if they want to receive concrit from their readers or not. Howeve r, we know it can be annoying to have to put “I’m open to concrit” on every story, and it can be equally annoying as a reader/reviewer (and as a mod) to try to remember who is open to concrit, and who isn’t.

So, this is a list where people can sign-up to let people know you, as an author, allow concrit. Sign-up below if you wish. Every few pages someone will collect the names and put them below (for ease of searching). Edit on 11/20/2015: To reduce confusion for those who may not have read this thread or the FAQ, we are moving ALL concrit to PM only. This way, new users will not assume everyone wants concrit. Please still add your name below so that people will still feel comfortable PMing you.

This is only for constructive criticism. Please note any sort of story bashing will never be allowed and will be removed regardless of the author’s stance on concrit. “Bashing” is defined as making purposefully strong, negative and hurtful comments. Constructive criticism (or concrit) should aim towards helping the author improve their writing and should never be mean or hurtful. A good rule of thumb when providing concrit is asking yourself “can the author learn from this?”. If not, then it is probably bashing. Good concrit should not only point out what is wrong, but also provide suggestions on how to fix the issue. It should also take time to point out the positive points of the writing.

Bashing:

“You grammar is awful! Do you even know English!”

“Anakin sucks in this. He would never say something like that.”

Concrit:

“Hey. I really like the style of this piece. However, I think you are having some issues with run-on sentences in this [quoted paragraph]. Try either breaking the sentence up HERE AND HERE, or using semi-colons LIKE THIS.”

“I’m enjoying Obi-Wan in this, but I think your Anakin is acting a little off. Remember, he’s only 11 at this time, so he probably wouldn’t be saying those things. I’d suggest reading THIS LEGENDS BOOK to get a feeling for him at this age.

I'm open to concrit.

However, I'd just prefer it private messages to me so I can keep track/ask questions/learn better (I find it difficult on stories). So if someone could put "Please send via PM only", that'd be awesome.

Under specific conditions, yes. If somebody replies to a story just to bash it, or writes a 5K word essay in a public thread, that's weird.

 

I know my writing sucks. Please tell me how to fix it so I can suck less.

 

I think there is a clear line between constructive criticism and bashing, so if it's bashing, a mod will remove it.

 

The OP might also be a good place to reiterate the definition of concrit, drawing a line between it and... less charitable opinions.

I haven't witnessed a single instance of a reviewer bashing a story since I've been here.

I'm always open to constructive criticism. Heck, I'll take bashing, flaming, own-fic promoting, off-topic ranting and raving . . . though those should be sent by PM because of Teh Rulez. [face_desperate_for_feedback_of_any_kind]
