i like the dark, creepy side of halloween. as well as the utterly ridiculous side like this "sexy oscar the grouch" costume.

loved christmas when i was little and when my kids were little. now there isn't really anything about it that i look forward to. i guess that's kind of sad, but meh.

In the U.S. almost as many people decorate their homes elaborately for Halloween as for Christmas. I think it's about Americans hedging their bets. Just in case we're wrong about Jesus, we devote a week to worshipping Satan and practicing witchcraft.

If Halloween is a holiday, so is Star Wars Day.

The Warriors/NBA can help with that.

Families from the west side of Chicago drive to my neighborhood for a safer place to trick-or-treat. So, with Halloween on a Saturday, and if it's not raining as forecast, I can expect about 400 kids over a 2-3 hour window, possibly longer, since the Saturday evening will encourage people to ignore the posted municipal candy redistribution schedule. It's a lot of fun: chaotic and cute and over quickly.

One idea I had: to give the first 10 families who knock on the door a rotisserie chicken. I think it would be a lot of fun to put a whole chicken in someone's candy bag.

Halloween. It's the one day of the year where it's considered normal to hang around a cemetery while wearing a costume.

    I prefer Halloween.

The neighbors get a bit uneasy when I hang up my severed heads for Christmas.

well one means I get time off work, and sometimes get to see family.

the other usually involves just getting drunk at a party, and that's only if anyone can be arsed organising something (which is usually never). so it's def Christmas

We should just combine both, so I can dress up as Charles Manson when I visit my relatives.

    Christmas.

I've dressed up in Christmas cosplay before, so cosplay, candy, and toys. And wintery weather, pretty lights, family & friends, people watching during the boxing day sales (lots of fun).

Good call on Thanksgiving. I do love the JC's desire to populate the obvious oversight of no "other" option with highly personalised preferences that the intent of the thread author was quite obviously indifferent to.

I might actually do some Black Friday shopping this year. *shudder* I won't be waiting in line at midnight Thanksgiving night, since I'm going to an early football game the next morning, but I will go shopping once the game is over. I wonder if the malls will have anything left when I get there...

I like the entire holiday season which for me is begins Oct. 1st and ends Jan. 2nd. This period just feels different than the rest of the year. I did vote Christmas over Halloween, though.

Halloween is to Americans what St. Patrick's Day is to the Irish - an excuse to be stupid.
