5. Clones - Has problems as a movie (hands down worst acting and direction of actors in the series, a lot of story elements only barely make any sense) but it's only bad Star Wars is the set up of Owen and Beru as barely related teens who never met Obi-Wan and knew a brooding Anakin for maybe a day, which I can work past but it bugs a little.

6. Phantom Menace...not so much a bad movie outside of Jar Jar but contains most of my most severe annoyances in the saga including the top 3 of midichlorians, "space Jesus" especially because it was contrived with no real impact on the story overall, and of course the already mentioned Jar Jar. Then add in the retcons to the OT that actually cause things to make less sense and make poor Obi-Wan seems less honest and you have a movie that is problematic as Star Wars but isn't bad as a movie in and of itself.

According to the poll statistics it seems to appear that the clear majority of the Jedi Council Forum members prefers to see the protagonists suffering, with TESB and ROTS in the clear lead ahead of any other film.

Seeing the poll results for ANH I really feel like an old fossil but I don't mind.

Honestly it changes though, I have an extreme case of recent-viewing-bias coupled with nostalgia-bias, or something like that. Revenge is my all time favorite though. Empire is basically tied.

 

Yeah I always flipped flopped between 3, 4, 5 & 6 as my favorite. After watching TFA my choice as ROTS as my current favorite has cemented more.

Return of the Jedi (7/10) Weak ending to two films I love. Absolutely hate the Ewoks, hate Death Star 2.0, the opening drags on and on, bikini-Leia is total fanservice and utterly silly and the overall "cartoony" nature of the film grate on my nerves. Seriously, this followed up Empire!!!

The Phantom Menace (7/10) Weak start to two films I love. Dragged in places, Gungans were annoying, Tatooine drags, Pod Race is TOO LONG and the film needed to be trimmed a bit.

A New Hope (8/10) Fairytale-StarWars; old fashioned, simple and totally endearing. I love everything up to escaping the Death Star the first time - afterwards, the film loses my interest a bit, and I find the final run to destroy the Death Star rushed and a little silly (Darth Vader spinning around in his pod...really?). Still a total classic though. And Luke ♥

Attack of the Clones (8/10) Yes, I like this film a whole lot - surprise, surprise. I really love the "noir" feel of this movie and how it remains the most unique of all the franchise. Love Obi-Wan to death, Anakin's arrogance, awkwardness and yet frightening appeal, Jango is so much better than his son, the sinister ambiance throughout leaves me unsettled and the entire ending from when they enter the arena to the wedding (Padme and Across the Stars is ♥) is just awesome.

Empire Strikes Back (10/10) This is Star Wars taken seriously and it is pretty much perfect. The darkness of the movie, the pacing, the discovery of what makes a Jedi, the timeless revelation of a dark family secret, and the sheer difference between a father and son both born from the same place to walk along two entirely different paths never gets old. The ending takes my breath away, as Luke stares out into the inky cold of space and his father somewhere is waiting for his own child to fall. Terrific film.

Revenge of the Sith (10/10) This is everything I wanted from Star Wars - a dark, tragic Space Opera with a truly heartbreaking ending that to this day, remains the only SW movie that makes me cry. Seeing the overwhelming darkness consume and choke the Jedi and an entire galaxy so much so that an entire lifestyle, a people - an era - passes so quickly, fruitlessly and tragically into history books just takes my breath away. Something so simple as an unrelenting worry that escalates into this all-consuming evil born out of twisted love - wow. The fights, the music, the warfare, the relationships - it was and is perfect to me, and everything I wanted.

Personal enoyment. Objectively, no Star Wars film is below a 7 to me.
