Welcome to the World building Bunny Index and Donation Thread! The purpose of this thread is to take all of those world building bunnies that you come up with, and that you know you will never get around using, and release those bunnies into the wild so someone else can use them in their rabbit stew.

To make things clear, with "world building bunnies" means here ideas for nonspecific planets, cultures, organisations, life forms, technology, Force traditions or similar.
If a bonny is connected to an existing planet, culture, species or similar you can just as well post that idea in the Fanon thread.

Feel free to post as many world building bunnies as you want (but for my sake, keep them to ten or less in each post) and discuss them to your heart's content, but please keep the discussion civil; after all this is a place to find something fun to write, and nobody wants to open a thread looking for fun and find an argument. Though I'm confident that y'all won't get into arguments. Right? Oh, and of course, keep the bunnies TOS-friendly.

Here are the rules, approved by our illustrious mods:

    1. All Star Wars world building bunnies are welcome here, as long as they are only Star Wars. This thread is not for non–Star Wars bunnies or crossovers.
    2. The posting of a world building bunny automatically permits anyone reading this to write a fic or fanon post using it and post it, whether here or on any other site. This applies even if you later decide to use the bunny yourself (and see rule #5 if you do).
    3. If you wish to write a particular bunny, it is requested as a courtesy that you post this intention in the thread, quoting the bunny in question. However, you do not need to wait for approval from the user who originally posted it (see rule #2).
    4. If you write something based on a donated bunny and you post it on the Jedi Council Forums, you may link it in this thread and indicate which specific bunny you used. The bunny will then be moved to the "written" section of the index (or added to that section, in case of bunnies lifted from the old threads) and have your writing linked next to it. Writing posted only on other sites may NOT be linked and will not be indexed.
    5. Your fic may not be linked or indexed if you write a fic based on a bunny that you yourself donated (this is to prevent users from "donating" a bunny for the purpose of gaining free advertising).
    6. One of the beauties of fan fiction and fanon is that different authors may take similar plot bunnies or prompts and run in wildly different directions with them. Therefore, even after something has been written for a particular bunny and indexed, other authors may also use that bunny. These additional fics and/or fanon posts may be indexed as well.
    7. If a specific bunny receives too many submissions, the sock may, at its master's discretion, close that bunny to future stories. A closed bunny may still be used as inspiration, but stuff based on it may no longer be linked or indexed in this thread.
    8. Story indexes will not necessarily be permanent. If the story portion of the index grows too large and unwieldy to handle, older fics and bunnies may be pruned from that section in order to reduce it to a manageable size. If this becomes necessary, advance warning will be given in the thread so that users can have a chance to save links. (Note that I do not anticipate having to do this for a LONG time.) Unwritten bunnies will never be pruned.

This sock is managed by Gamiel. If you have questions, feel free to ask in this thread; optionally, you may tag Gamiel which may lead to a quicker response (or might not). Tagging the sock account won't help, as the alert won't be seen until the next time he logs into the sock. Should you need to PM the sock, include both the sock and Gamiel in the conversation, so that he can respond quicker and so that the message is properly filed for possible future owners of the sock. (But really, who would want someone else's used sock? That's gross. :p)

Oh, a perfect thread for me :p. I will try to keep within the ten bunnies per post ;)

    Some social/governmental bunnies:
    * the society is a true matriarchy: only women who are mothers are allowed into positions of true political power.

    * high officers are not allowed to have or had family: their loyalty is to be only to the state, not their family.

    * every member of this society is masked and you only show your face to your famly members and most trusted friends if that. The mask may be simple cloth and papier-maché or highly advanced pieces of technology. How a mask is designed depend on what guild, family and/or function the bearer have and there is lots of (more-or-less) secret symbols and ways to act that shows your standing in the group and makes it very hard for non-members of the group to pass as a member even if they get their hands on a mask.

    * the society have a strong aversion against artificial intelligences and possibly even to advance computers. This means that droids are outlawed in their territories and if the culture is aggressive enough there is a possibility for a Butlerian Jihad. If even advance computers are outlawed so is possible the roles that can not be done by a normal sentient, like astrogation, is filled by special trained (possible Force using) groups; some kind of specialised bio-computers or is actually done by advanced computers which existence is hidden from public knowledge.

    * This one if probably more fitting for smaller societies, like tribes and villages: a child in the group remain nameless until another member of the group dies and then s/he gets the dead once name and are throughout her/his childhood taught the deeds and notable mannerisms of all the previous bearers of the name. It is expected that the childe, once grown up, will fill the same role as the precious bearers of her/his name have had.
If there is no unnamed child around when a person dies an outsider, preferably a young child, must quickly be adopted into the village/tribe, given the dead one's name and taught the deeds and notable mannerisms of all the previous bearers of the name. Getting the outsider child is possibly done by slave trade or kidnapping.

    * the society is ruled by three councils, one made up by all the free, grown up men, one made up by all the free, grown up women and one made up by all who have lived long enough (exact age depend on the setting but I suggest some where between 45 and 70). The different councils have different jurisdictions even if they sometime, or often, overlap and finding out which council you need to speak too can be a bit of a problem for outsiders.

    * people dealing with magic, spirits and/or gods at a professional level all dress and act as if they belonged to the other gender and it is considered unusual if they are heterosexual.

    * the society put a lot of prestige and importance on an, in practise, obsolete fighting style – ex. fencing, archery, flintlock pistols, etc. – and more or less all military and political persons are at least trained in the fighting style and it is possible that it is though to all citizens in school.

    * the society is actually made up by two different societies that share the same space. The two societies are similar enough that outsiders easily can miss that they are not the same but the two groups follow different rules and have different traditions.

    * the society is imbued with belief that its citizens should enhance their capability through the use of cybernetics. People lacking cybernetics will be looked upon as strange at best and be looked down on as lesser at worst.

I'm stealing this idea for a fic that I'll start later this year (or when I'm done with all my current fics, which could be a while). I'll post the link in this thread when I'm done.

    Some more social/governmental bunnies

    * every member of this society put their pride in a type of weapon (ex. dagger, sword, pistol). This weapon is its carrier’s badge of honour and is "the sword and shield" she defend it with. It is likely that duels are common.

    * hair styles show the personas social statues, outsider either have to hide their hair, fix their hair so it correspond to their social statues or wear a wig.

    * the civilization is filled with intrigues on many, if not all, levels. Those intrigues may just be friendly competitions or they may be deadly and infernal where death or ruin is an all too common end. This usually create a labyrinthal web of pacts, alliances and sworn enemies that is constantly shifting. People from this kind of worlds are usually masters of doublespeak and plotting but also expect others to follow their rules, making them easily confused by people that are only speaking the straight truth and/or have no hidden agenda.

    * of one reason or another (maybe practical, maybe social) more or less all larger settlements are mobile, either moving from place to place, settling down for a time and then moving again or in constant motion. The mobile cities are probably supported by mobile towns, that are in turn are supported by mobile villages, which in turn are supported by smaller mobile units. There is also the possibility of mobile mega cities that tower above the normal mobile cities.

    * something most of the galaxy consider common items is considered a luxury on this planet. Some examples: sugar, salt, textile colours, clean air, spices, etc.

    * In some cultures people born with malformations are considered touched by the higher powers, what about a mystical/religious group (maybe Force using) that belongs to one of those cultures and only recruits from people born with deformities.

    * I don't think we have seen any religious or Force using group that could be called "holy fools", as in all the tradition's members act or are crazy. This may come from that they were opened too fast to the Force and can not filtrate the differences between what they sense through their Force sense and what they sense with their other sense. Or maybe they only recruits people who are seen as mad. It could also just be an act: they act like fools becous that's what's expected of them.

    * A word of whose landscapes are made up by things like thorn trees, razor grass and blade bamboo

    * It would be interesting to see a civilizations whose technology is similar to the technology used by the Gummi Bears from the cartoon Adventures of the Gummi Bears

    * a society where all technology that can be made to function without the power of electricity, even if it makes them ten times (or more) larger, made in that way.

    * A desert world ruled by plumber-princesses who control the great plumbing machineries that pumps water from the deep.
    * A planet with acid seas, as long as you don’t fall into the “water”, you’re ok
    * A planet covered with ancient defensive walls, bastions, etc. By ancient tradition so are the defensive works constantly keept in good condition, even if there been peace for hundreds of years.
    * I don’t think we have seen any worlds with wandering trees (and/or other vegetation) in SW
    * We have seen sentient species in SW that are plant based but have we seen plant based “animals”?
    * A waterworld where all larger habitations are mobile.
    * A jungleworld of great fungus and land coral
    * A world rich in one (or more) important minerals that are protected and mined two noble houses of warrior-miners that mine the ore using methods that bring the most minimal damage to the planet. Throughout the ages they have fought against pirates, warlords and unscrupulous robber miners alike and many other who wants the precious ore. Despite this both households are fierce rivals with each other and have been embroiled in a bitter feud that dates back many generations, and relations between the houses have regularly soured to the point of near war and more than one time only the vice words of the Republics top diplomats have prevented open conflict.
    * A nice tranquil planet without any real hardship or dangers that have been colonised by a people who originally lived on a harsh and/or dangerous planet and their whole self-image is built around that. They now try to keep being “a hard people from hard world” while living on a planet that makes that rather hard.
    * A culture of honour with high emphasis on oath-debt. In this society man's word is his bond, no matter his rank, and to break one's word is the highest crime imaginable. Such is the impact of this honour code on society that the citizens are very careful when they speak to one another, using a complex and formal language that outsiders can find difficult to interpret. Words like ‘bond’, ‘oath’ and ‘promise’ hold much weight when used by the people of this culture, and more than one outsider has inadvertently entered into a life-debt by making an offhand remark or through casual insincerity.
    * An iceworld that would be colder then Hoth if it was not for heavy geological activity that create patterns of heat oasis following the binderies of the tectonic plates.

Some bunnies for evil Force traditions:
    * What about an Assassin's Creed like organisation that have decided that the ends (justice and the deterrence of crime) justify the means (terror tactics and vigilant killings of the perceived guilty); they use the Force for enhanced acrobatic stunts (like the Leap of Faith), enchanted perception and stealth; they also sometime gets precognitions. When one of them get a vision they fully believe it will come true unless they change it and that if somebody has been shown as guilty in their vision they are as good as guilty.
Inspired by: Assassin's Creed; Minority Report and WH30k's Konrad Curze the Night Haunter
    * Seers/oracles that advice the warlord/pirate prince/mercenary leader that is ravaging/plundering across systems. Completely lack any kind of combat abilities.
    * Wuxia bad guy martial artists, that unlike the Sith don't know things like TK and don’t use lightsabre.
    * Mystical assassins that are masters of stealth and killing from the shadows but are not much of a physical threat if they have to fight in the light and/or attack from the front.
    * The witch-aristocracy of a magocracy world/confederation who are all squishy wizard but they are protected by competent elite bodyguards (who are not Force users).

    Some planet bunnies:
    * a waterworld without any natural land. The original submerged cities have been built upon over the millennia until the tops of the cities rose above the sea.
    * an iceworld covered by a permanent glaciations that is several kilometres deep; has an day/night cycle that’s at least 60 hour long. During the night it became so cold that even talz need heavy protective gear to survive and during the day the sun’s heat and high radioactive bombardment are strong enough to melt the top layers of ice, creating swallow seas that freeze again when the day ends. Life exists in the seas, either eternally migrating to not freeze or able to hibernate and survive the cold of the night.
    * A world full of large and aggressive fauna that near constantly threaten the people on the planet. The beasts are (barely?) kept in check by noble tech-knights, armed with blaster carbines and vibro-swords, protected by high-tech armour and shields.
    - Variations: As presented this idea is rather medieval Europe inspired, you could easily change it up a bit by using titles, weapons and/or design from other cultures.

Wow…a lovely, lovely thread as I denote myself as a dedicated world builder. I shall be visiting here (quietly or otherwise) often! Awesome idea Plot Bunny Sock!

And Gamiel that quoted description from Havoc123 reminds me partially of a faction/force culture I created for a game recently in the RPF. I don't mind donating it and seeing what someone can write with it for themselves if they wish. Am I allowed to link here to it so people can see what I'm talking about? It's a ton of info.
