I think Ewan, Ian, Liam, and Sir Christopher are all considered to have given great performances in general for the PT.

Not sure how far back this thread is, but I had to bring this up: 17 years after first posting here, I am finally going to gush about amazing Ian was in the PT to him .. in person.

Yep. Going to celebration!! - time will be limited but not sure how to let him know that this little thread is still going on and on and on (and lobbying for an Ian / Palpy standalone film)

I would agree with all of those except for Sir Lee. While I love him (and his take on Saruman in LOTR) I felt his Dooku was very bland. Certainly not one his better performances, IMO.

    Excellent.

I wish someone could tell Our Dear Leader about this thread.

"Ian, you have engendered an unofficial fan club called "FIGS" where people revere you like a god, and you have a thread dedicated to you which is over five-hundred pages long."

Ian backs away and discreetly exits the stage. :p

This strikes at my ego and my conservatism with joint alacrity! I'm okay with a name change; and yet, I like the original just fine. [face_worried]

Choices, choices. I don't have too many posts in here; perhaps you should see what some of the more prominent posters think.

That's awesome! By gum, if there is to be a name change, it should happen quickly ("We must do something quickly to change the name of this thread"), lest you or anyone else actually refer to it and you give Ian a dud reference.

Also Chewies_bandolier, I see you have your work cut out for you already, belonging to both "F.I.G.S." and "Mark Hamill's Beard Patrol". [face_laugh]

And are you really going to mention it to Ian? I think you should, you know. Go on...

    Tell Ian. Tell Ian now.
    Do it!

Yes. Good idea -- visual evidence of The Temple of Ian. What can please an Emperor more than direct confirmation of their indisputable greatness and insuperable majesty?

I, too, have had the good fortune and the mighty grace of seeing Our God in the flesh. Back in 2008, I saw Ian in "Jonah and Otto", being performed at The Royal Exchange in Manchester.

I wrote a "review", of sorts, at the time; though its wings have since been clipped (one of various truncated posts since the message board changed software in 2012):

You can tell Ian McDiarmid is enjoying himself playing Palpatine/Sidious in these movies.

Of all the things I wrote, THAT'S the part you quote and highlight??? :p

My work here is done. ;)

    Ah, yes.

    "Welcome to hell."

    Very amusing film.

Eh. So I did it. I stood in line for nearly three hours to tell Ian about this star wars fansite that has a fan club for him since 2002. Not sure if he was super interested but anyway - very very nice man who spent way more time with his fans than some of the others there.

    :)

Definitely one of my all time favorite actors. He stole the show in ROTJ. He stole the show in ROTS. I can remember seeing that film in the theater with my mother. I think she fell in love with his character that day. He just has a way of drawing all attention to him, even when there's a black cloacked cyborg in the room with him.

    wh-wh-w-whw-w-w-whaaaaa------!!!!

You really went and "did" it!!??!!

That's insane. You're insane. We're insane. Ian's insane. You can't spell "insane" without "ian".

    EVERYTHING, SO INSANE.

    That's absolutely f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c!!!

I really hope he checks it out at some point. I also hope he doesn't get a heart attack.

527 pages of electrifying Ian goodness!!!!

And, of course, we're still counting. Let's get this thread to a 1,000!

Lovely to hear him being so nice. I've never really heard any different; but you got your own first-hand confirmation. Also backs up George Lucas' beautiful interjection here:

    Time Index: 26:13

"The one testament to Ian's acting and how great he is is he's the nicest, loveliest, kindest, sweetest guy in the world. He is nothing at all like the Emperor."

    Ian's response:

    "Yes, well, maybe occasionally."

    ;) :D

LOL @ whoever adding the electricity/lightning in the second clip. Ian "quietly" shocking everyone. [face_laugh]

Even without the lightning, it's just as entertaining.

Ian on his throne, engaging with his public.

Folks, it doesn't get much better than this.

    HOORAY FOR CELEBRATION 2017!!!!!!

He's got this great voice! I can't remember which, whether it was the ESB or ROTJ novelization
where the emperor was described as having a deeper voice than Vader.
Well, I don't know if he voice was exactly deeper, but I wouldn't choose anyone else to play the part.
