To be honest, this is not for a SW fanfic, but a collective SF novel (in French). Since SW is SF, somehow, well ^^
In this novel, some scientists are exploring a new planet to determine whether or not there are some forms of life. And of course there are, but more than they would have expected. In my case, I would need a sentient species which diverge from the so-common humanoids we can see in SF works. I am really fond of the kind of octopus we can see in the movie Arrival, but, this idea is now already taken.

This novel project is supervised by profesionnal scientists, so I would like to introduce a believable species, given the fact the new planet is close from the Earth we know, excepted a slightly higher mass and gravity, and a little bit more carbon dioxyd in the atmosphere.
If you wand to be involved in this project, feel free to contact me. Although this will be hard for you to fully participate, I would be glad to mention you for interesting and significant inputs.

Then I suggest taking a look at the Elder Things by H.P. Lovecraft, they are very non humanoid and have some of their inner workings explained. Also their copyright has gone out so you can use them for all that you want.

From SW I would suggest taking a look at the Gree, they are squid-like in apperance and have a strange cast system that might be biological

yahiko For SW species, you may also like the Iyra
They're an awesome cephalopod species that hate humanoids. That project also sounds pretty cool!

    A masseur.

But when asked, is only doing it to pay his/her/it's way through technical college.

A cybernetic therapist maybe? Like does he massage the biological body ends and the cybernetics start?

My character Kreel is having her body taken care of and since she has a cybernetic pegleg, I was thinking that the being massaging her legs should also take care of the cybernetic orifices where she plug in her pegleg.

It just feel like sombody that specialise in not just kneading the body but also taking care of your cybernetic orifices should be called something more then a masseur.

Hey native English speakers, what's the best name for this object in a SW context? Is it a rattle, a ratchet, a noisemaker? (I've already dismissed the options "gragger" and "football rattle".)

Also, what would be the right verb to describe how to use it? To spin it? To swing it around?

Didn't know how to describe the movement in English, so the first 26 seconds of this describes the usage, and what to call it.

Others will have to assist on a SW name...

Suggest swing it around? Like an inverse spoon stirring motion, but above the head?

You could see if any ROTJ novels have a description for how Wicket operates his bola(s), as it is the same action.

As kids, we played with a thing called a bullroarer that you swung around to make a fantastic, weird sound. It's just a neat word, "bullroarer."[face_clown]It had the same general shape as what is pictured.

A scary bedspread This is a worthwhile thread, and untruncated, too :) http://boards.theforce.net/threads/...cism-towards-improving-combat-scenes.6767593/

Chyntuck - Well, for a Star Wars name, you could have a creature, followed by "roarer".

    Eg. Vornsk roarer

What about "Howlrunner". Multiple things can have the same name.

Or howlrunner could be the person running along using the thing. So the device could be a howler, and the SW connection being the operator.

    Thanks Sith-I-5 PlanetSmasher!

pronker Thanks and I agree, "bullroarer" is such a very neat word :D We had those too when I was a little girl, my father hated it because I insisted on bringing it to the dinner table. I've seen them a few times in carnival celebrations recently, but it looks like the toy is almost extinct.

Aw, the bullroarer makes perfect dinnertime music!!

And yes, I've not seen one in ages. Maybe it's gone the way of percussion caps that we would hit with a hammer on the sidewalk, deemed too dangerous nowadays. I guess the swinging could get out of hand ... [face_beatup]

Can anyone tell me of a couple of midsize ship classes from the pre-Empire era? Maybe something close to the crew size of a YT-1300 (Millennium Falcon) but not a freighter. This ship personally belongs to a Jedi Master in my story. She carries around an Aethersprite-class fighter (Obi-Wan's ship in AotC) in her hold. It needs to be agile and well-armed for its size, though I suppose I could just say it's "modified" if I find anything somewhat lesser.

    Thanks!

I've had a V-Wing in the bottom vehicle bay of my Consular-class cruiser.

You could also have an HH-2200 or HT-2200. I don't think that its a freighter...

Thank you! Looks as though the HT is a freighter after all, but I really like the Consular-class. That's the type of ship I was envisioning, for sure.
