Kylo's theme is actually the strongest IMO. A strong theme can be delivered and recognized in as few notes as possible. Kylo's absolutely meets that. Vader's theme, while more intricate, can be summed up in a couple of notes.

It's the first thing heard after the opening crawl, as a nice call-back to ANH; it turns up after Poe destroys the Dreadnought's cannons, I believe, as a "hooray for adventure!" kinda thing; it also crops up during the Battle of Crait and elsewhere, as far as I recall, and in a nice twinkly version in the final scene. It's not always particularly prominent, but it's definitely there.

EDIT: I'm not sure how many of those moments are on the album (which is missing about an hour of music), but the For Your Consideration score is floating around now, with a few unreleased tracks, and the Main Theme has a couple of plays in those.

I was talking about new themes, which is why I said he didn't receive a new one. Vader had a theme in IV, but received a new theme in the Imperial March which dominated the film more than any theme has in any other film. Perhaps Kylo's theme served a same role in this one.

You're right, it is on the FYC.

I'm still not over how good this overture is.

I suppose in the same sense I liked the one for TLJ's trailer which starts with Jedi Steps before going into Kylo's theme, Rey's theme, and the Force theme.

Playing a dirty game, eh? You're just raising all kind of red flags, bud, and trying to act like everyone should naturally share your disdain for the article you posted while shying away from defending your position.

You're still at it, trying to play victim.

I guess now is as good a time as any to listen to the soundtrack.

    Grow up.

I've gone through the soundtrack twice now. It definitely has the John Williams greatest hits vibe with each theme sprinkled in when that specific character is on screen so closing your eyes for some of the tracks instantly takes me back to the movie.

Rose theme is okay. I'm not a huge fan of it, but it is different enough to stand out which I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing. Right now, I think it's a little bad as I'm not a huge fan of her character. I wonder if Paige screen tested with Finn, but that's another topic.

The Canto Bight music sounds better with the casino patrons talking over it in the movie verses the one on the soundtrack. It's a little bit of a rip off of the Cantina theme, but John Williams is definitely allowed to rip off himself.

The music towards the end of the film feels a little more jumbled as I don't have a clear picture of the movie when I listen to the music so I'd have to say that the beginning of the soundtrack is the strongest in my mind as it feels more structured.

Which track has Rose's theme? Track 5?

Havent listened to the soundtrack by itself at all, but even as i watched the film i thought Canto Bight music was supposed to be the Cantina theme played for the well to-do, rather than the "scum and villainy". It's like a classical quartet take, or something.

The soundtrack album isn't in film order (as with previous Williams albums) so some of the cues don't line up if you're trying to replicate the movie experience.

Is Rose's theme the one that goes:
    Ab - Db - Eb
    Eb - Gb - F - Db - Eb
    ?

That theme (which also starts The Rebellion is Reborn) gives me a very ET vibe.

I can't read music but you hear it kick in at the 4 second mark of "Fun With Finn and Rose " and it repeats again at the 28 second mark.

You can also hear it again in "The Fathiers" at the 1:28 mark and the 2:18 mark.

It's a little Harry Potter-y with a happy and hopeful vibe.

Ok. That's the one I was focusing on.

It's good. It reminds me of ET, but i'd have to listen to ET again to verify if I'm thinking of the right movie. I don't know that it fits Rose as I found her character a bit grating and uneven.

Yes, that Rose/Rebellion theme is probably the standout of the movie to me, like Rey's theme was for TFA.

Ahch-To (a planet mostly covered in water) vs. Ahto city (the capital of Manaan, a planet covered completely in water)

Is it a coincidence or reference to EU (KoTOR)? Considering what was done to EU, I feel it's more like salt on injury.

I think that, outside of Rebels, the EU isnt very frequently being consciously mined. Dark Empire is, i think, but i would bet both Abrams and Johnson read it back in the day. Only Filoni cares go integrate facets of the EU into Canon, though. The filmmakers mostly dont think about it.

Fortunately, my favourite three films are enshrined in canon and cannot be destroyed. I'll always have the Prequel Films and content to display a real Jedi Order that can take action. I'm not too fussed about Luke failing to restore that. It just show how strong the Old Jedi Order was and how short of the mark Luke Skywalker has fallen.

Is the mighty story group (handpicked by Kennedy herself!!!1) involved making of ST? Like giving names to characters and planets?

The whole Story Group thing was always a bit of a marketing ploy in Jmo
