I gotta say one thing about TLJ, Kylo Ren and Rey are still fantastic characters. Definitely worthy additions to the saga. I like Poe and Finn too, but I liked them more in TFA than TLJ.

 

Yeah, I liked Finn a lot better in TFA than TLJ.

The only thing I dislike about Kylo Ren is his name. (Still.)

omg I'm imagining the "Rey builds her lightsaber" scene very differently all of a sudden

 

JJ needs to prove hes not a rehash after the endless complaints which even he has heard (seriously, I'm sure he is aware of these complaints)

So he just might go overboard in the other direction...

Kylo did a 180 from finish what Vader started to Let it all die (he specifically includes letting the sith die)

What if Rey's dad was Odysseus?

 

We don't get to watch Luke try to restore the Jedi, but his attempt to do so in the intervening 30 years is enormously important to the story. While I agree the New Republic got short shrift, I don't agree that it was dismissed - we know that the New Republic was reestablished.

(Ideally, for me, the first movie in this trilogy would have been about the Resistance - a loose alliance of insurgencies on unaligned worlds fighting against encroaching FO forces - trying to convince the New Republic of the danger they're facing. [Or, more specifically, inspired by the stories of the Rebellion, are trying to somehow reach Princess Leia.] Poe, Finn, their junk trader friend, and Han Solo are prepared to do battle and get absolutely creamed when in swoop the New Republic.)

Rey: Oh right, he's gone. I'm so sorry... Anyway the First Order has made a critical error and we can strike Galakiller base at their next shield regeneration...

The thing about the Rebellion/Republic/Resistance that tickles me -- and this is just a personal preference thing -- I'd have been so much cooler with the TFA set up if the Republic hadn't been fully restored. If our heroes had been struggling for decades to stamp out imperialism in its various forms.

Because then there's still momentum.

I've got no doubt that plenty of people would be angry that the Big Three got no era of peace but I don't care about pleasing them. ONLY ME.

Actually, Admiral Ackbar is going to be JJ's twist

 

Kylo receives bad news, he goes nuts, gets the saber out, nothing happens.

Enraged by his lightsaber dysfunction, he shakes the saber uip and down, brings it up to his face and looks down into the hilt - the circuit connects.....

Saber blade through the head.

 

I assume the wall panels he slashed up in TFA were a mock up for that purpose and didn't convey any information. The FO starships are Kylo-proofed.

I'm still waiting for the 'Deadpool' style realization from the characters that the 'Will of the Force' is actually a commercial enterprise aimed at entertaining an audience.

That actually is a shocking revelation and one that I would accept would drive Luke to the First Jedi Temple--to try to see if there really was a meaning and it wasn't all a lie.

Rey could even ask why Luke hid, and he'd say, "I can't tell you. I found a disturbing truth about the Will of the Force and if it got out, the galaxy would fall into chaos." (because the only way one can realistically write the franchise after this truth got out in-universe is for the characters to go completely mad from the revelation). The movie would never reveal what this truth is, but the director can hint in interviews that Luke realized his entire galaxy is an entertainment franchise. That his nephew went bad because he was written that way for commercial entertainment. But this would never be revealed in the film itself, just left mysterious.

 

Luke should have gone full Kreia, yeah.

Kylo: After all that has happened, still you live. You are difficult to kill.
Luke: For one as limited as you, perhaps. To have fallen so far and learned nothing, that is your failure.
Kylo: The failure is yours. No longer do your whispers crawl within my skull, no longer do I suffer beneath teachings that weaken me. The Jedi are all dead, save one. And one broken Jedi cannot stop the darkness which is to come.
Luke: Perhaps... We shall see.

Wait I guess he did kinda go full Kreia.

 

Luke was secretly a Sith lord all along!

Note the triumphant tone in their lines.

Now compare to how a real Jedi talks about war and his tone.

"Victory? Victory, you say? Master Obi-Wan, not victory. The shroud of the Dark Side has fallen. Begun, the Clone War has." Yoda

And obviously Luke ignored the "There is no emotion, there is peace" line of the Jedi Code when he was mindreading sleeping Ben. Luke would probably say "Peace is a lie, there is only passion."

 

What the freaking crap.

TLJ really is the TSL to TFA's KOTOR.
