To return to this, I just heard* that Gygax himself was not that inspiered by Tolkien but his players wanted to play Tolkien inspiered characters and that shaped how D&D developed

    * I guess it count as a second or third hand source so it could be wrong

So, I was browsing the Wook the other day and ran across the rumor that Ian McDiarmid may have frequented the JCF back in the day.

Do any of you long-time members recall having interacted with him?

I wasn't here too often before AOTC and had a different name, but I don't remember that or anyone ever mentioning it. But I lived in the ROTS spoiler forum and definitely never showed up during those years, or at least it was really well hidden and only a handful of people "in the know" would have known. And I don't remember him ever mentioning it on mainstream media, if he was just reading and not posting.

The Official Site had its own forum back then; I think he would have been encouraged to visit there rather than here. There was sort of a war between the sites (muhahaha....)

I spent most of 2005 arguing about whether or not Palpatine threw the fight in the RotS forum because that was worthwhile.

McDiarmid never backed me up tho.

Do anybody know of any fiction/games that used the Ainu people?

Or have a people/group that is visible inspired by them?

Lol, I wonder if that's the main source for people misremebering the "I am you father" line.

This one predates it by 2 years.

I think it may have been from the radio drama in 1983, as Vader says in that "No, Luke, I am your father" in that.

In universe, it's (not surprisingly) one of the Core Worlds. It was first mentioned in the Clone Wars-era novel Yoda: Dark Rendezvous.

Yeah, he used to be the Senate forum. He even made a reference to it in the movie. "I am the Senate!"

To continue on the off-track a bit, but overe here.

LelalMekha do you know about The Dead Authors Podcast? It is a comedy and faux-historical podcast hosted by Paul F. Tompkins in character as H.G. Wells. In each episode, he welcomes a deceased author (played by improvisation comedians) via his "time machine" to discuss his or her life and work. One of those authors are Ayn Rand (played by John Hodgman), it's really funny.
