I think (in light of the revelations of the Separatists' plans) she would help unify the senate in support of the creation of the army, which is not the same as giving emergency powers. At the beginning of the movie, she was against the creation of an army, declaring that the right path was through negotiations. But what Obi-Wan's investigation revealed (and Padmé experienced this herself when debating with Dooku) was that the Separatists were not willing to negotiate. They were going to attack the Republic. So she was actually the person who could unify the senate in a pragmatic manner.

Remember, the problem is that they needed to make a decision fast and they have no time to debate. Either the senate agrees unanimously about creating the army or they don't. As Bail points out, the senate would only do it after the Separatists attack, but by then a massacre would have happened. The alternative is to give emergency powers to someone else and that someone could make the decisions that needed to be made much faster and efficiently. That also happens to be the path to a dictatorship, which was Palpatine's plan all along.

Yes, it's a part of the continuing theme of altruistic innocence corrupted by the organs of cynical self-interest.

The proud military tradition of the Gungans, demonstrated in Episode I as a virtuous force for local self-determination, is subverted by means of Jar Jar's well-meaning provincialism to become a force for imperialist domination.

e: This is what I like about Episode II. It's all about beautiful faces decaying into hideous death masks, heads being swapped onto bodies that don't fit, peace becoming war, chrome becoming steel, diplomats becoming soldiers, Jedi becoming clones.

Very well said, PC. And I really like you pointing out what ya said about "grand army" being used to describe the Gungans. @darkspine10 Always learn something new from this film that AOTC has gone from second favorite to just above ROTJ to least favorite and now to my fourth favorite of the saga since 2002.

It's such a weird film in the most grandiose way. Filled with subtext that most people take at face value (which is why they end up hating the characters and everything the film is about) but there's always an underlying amount of complex characters with multi-faceted personality, such as Anakin loving his mother, but also taking her death as a personal failure on his own part.

While this is not exactly a article, I post it like example that more and more vloggers declare their love for the prequels. I chosen this for two reasons: is made by female and I miss the female view on this ( I mean in such public channels as Youtube and so on) and in the same time, in my opinion PT indeed drove many female viewers to SW universe and second, she defends some unpopular views including about the romance between Ani and Padme.

Of course, she has a somehow politically correct opinion (yes, they have problems but I like them) but generally I consider this video as example of breakthru about the attitude to the PT in the social media.

PC perspective is sort of inescapable with the young(an ideal which has been rising but I'm not bashing it. It is what it is) but she seems genuine about the films, which I prefer.

Always great to see female perspectives about the films.

Shocking news from Watchmojo. They included Anakin in a positive list. :) Taking in consideration the infamous clip against the prequels that was torn apart by the voting, this is interesting.

You know I am starting to realize defending the prequels on reddit is a bad idea. Everyone attacks you for being right and you get down voted to hell.
Like padme's death. If you have any idea how film making can go you can see that her death wasn't about a broken heart because
It's never said she died by a broken heart. Second her death is edited together with vaders rebirth. Via sound design and effects it comes across that her life is being siphoned into vader. By either Vader or palpatine (That damn grim)

Surprised people are still fighting over this. Well I can with reddit since %90
of it is filled with scum.

Actually the same thing happened here in many threads. Only here was more let's say it, more polite but the discussions sometimes went to dead end for similar reasons. You can check the old threads. But I think this thread should be more positive, so let's not derail it. :)

Thats rather interesting. I always thought her death was logical in universe and obvious. And that was me seeing the film in cinemas at the age of 12. I agree we need more positivity. (Lets not turn into reddit. At all)

So heres something I noticed after re watching Revenge of the sith. Is when Padme and Anakin are talking on the balcony about there child and say things like "I am so in love with you" ETC. You notice that there breaks of giggling when they talk and a few shots were in the background and foreground they are laughing/ having fun. Have to say that scene has a knew perspective for me now. I look at it as a couple having fun with how they talk to each other. Interesting how lucas can create such an open ended scene full of interpretation.

Stewart's assessment is dead-on, here. Clones, for me, remains the weak link of the PT, but nonetheless undeserving of its notoriety. (Heck, in the wake of the Disney releases, it now looks positively avant-garde.)

On to ROTS, which had better score at least a 9/10...

Sometimes I hate reddit it's suck a hive minds of simpletons.
I gave a comment were everyone just complained about the prequels and well pretty much get downvoted not to oblivion (yet) but it was dumb. Though it was also on a video game star wars comment about prequel content and well. Star wars fans.

''So people still complain about the prequels? Ok first up when they released they were well received to mixed at the time I remember them being quite positive though I guess it depends were in the world you lived in Australia it was great. Especially after they came out and at school everyone pretended to be maul, Anakin in a podrace, drunken jar jar, Obi wan even a combat droid. Here's the thing the prequels are not only a different Era in time but for a new class of fans, Without the prequels I wouldn't love star wars as much as I do now. Star wars is a movement for different times. Thats why the prequels work. Plus if you hate the prequels but love Ep7 then I think you need to get your priorities straight.

Second we live in a world of Billions of people to say a mass concentration of them hate the prequels is idiotic. Hell 10 mill could hate them with a passion but 20 mill could love them. In the end it doesn't matter people like them and people hate them, welcome to a fandom.

Thirdly the prequels are done very smartly and as an overall story from 1,2,3 they come together pretty damn well. Theirs a lot of Kubrick style of piecing things together. Now as singular films on there own it's a bit different sure but they still work and follow the beauty of Star wars, Being imaginative and inspired by something (Unlike Disney trash) and Fourthly the OT wasn't perfect either hell they had bad acting and writing as well. Same for the ST it's kinda a staple of the series.

But hey welcome to the internet were everyone's right and Everyone's Wrong.

But yes we need Anakin and obi wan and I am sure we will get them in time. Patience young Padawans.''
Doesn't attack anyone doesn't say my view is superior it's just a different perspective

that's not what we do here.

please refrain from recruiting for other sites on these forums, especially for the purposes of PT vs. ST fan wars, or whatever you were trying to accomplish. this is your only warning.

This is not a whole article on the prequels (just an aside reference to them as part of a review of Solo), but I think the following paragraph will be of interest here:D:
