    Alfred Hitchcock? Nah.

    Stanley Kubrick? He sucks.

    Steven Spielberg? What a loser!

    George Lucas? The WORST!

Rian Johnson is the greatest director of all time and anyone who disagrees is wrong.

    Discuss.

Anyone who disagrees will be banned, actually. New staff policy.

Agreed. RJ should have been the only nomination for Best Director at the Oscars. And they should rename it from Best Director to the Rian Johnson Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence.

I heard that Disney commissioned a painting where Mellies, Kurosawa, Bergman, Lean, Welles, Coppola and Spielberg bow before Rian Johnson. It will hang in Bob Iger's office.

The genius of Johnson is that if you did a Venn diagram of his talent influences they would include Lucas and Kasdan but also those two men’s own influences and then so many more.

It’s the closest thing we may get to an American Christopher Nolan who loves Lucas and Kasdan and Spielberg and Zemeckis and Cameron as much as he does Kurosawa and Kubrick and Ford and Lean and Scorsese and Fellini and Chayefsky, etc.

A lot of filmmakers or writers are either big art house types or wannabe Seilbergs but what’s more rare is finding the directors who love both ends of filmmaking. Nolan does. Johnson is closer to getting to that level but is sort of Nolan-lite. Villeneneuve is there but doesn’t write.

"Nolan-lite"? "influences"? As if the greatest director of all time needed "influences"!

I personally think the universe didn't exist as we know it until Rian Johnson directed his first movie, which as we all know was Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

He's got a beard, and all the great auteurs have one, but he's not Jordan Vogt-Roberts yet.

    Give him time.
