You realize that you've essentially just mimicked the main reason you dislike Ready Player One, right?

... also, you forgot the short story Young Zaphod Plays It Safe, as well as the original television show. Don't try to hide behind an "etc."

I don't know, I hated RPO, the book, and if that makes me wrong on here, then I don't ever want to be right about anything ever again.

Apparently the Ready Player One book has some people hot under the collar but to me Ready Player One is a Spielberg movie starring Steven Spielberg making a gat-damn blockbuster again so I legitimately don't care about why people are annoyed with the source materiel.

It was a great experience. That race scene in the beginning of the film to get to the first key was heart pounding an intense in 3D. However, it wasn't a true IMax experience as it did not make full use of the IMax screen which is like 3 stories of screen.

Halliday's favorite movie quote: "Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe," which is so appropriate for this film.

I'd imagine the race scene and the battle scene to get the final key were the biggest hits on IMax. Was the 3D effective in IMax?

Very little. I've seen the film in both 2D and 3D, so you're not missing any thing if you see the film in just 2D. However, seeing it IMAX does make a difference as you pick up more details and you get more of a virtual experience.

Yeah that's what I thought. As I mentioned before, the standard (non-IMax) 3D didn't really impress me all that much.

Yes, that was the point of the whole exercise.

This Bazinga'd level nonsense masquerading as nerd culture is as exclusive as it wants to be inclusive.

Well, feels that you have a connection is an experience. Some have an emotional experiences with film, ala the discussion of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 in the Marvel movie thread.

For me, Ready Player One was a virtual reality/gaming experience. From the get go, you're taken into the world of the Oasis, and you really get the gamer vibe from the film. The Oasis, is Star Trek's "holodeck" but presented in a more modern and realistic way. So, when the race for the first key comes on screen, I'm experiencing it the thrills and spills.

Wasn't there a theater that featured some kind of extra sensory mechanism for movies; like seats that vibrate in time with an earthquake happening on screen?

Yeah, the first time I watch Ready Player One was in an AMC Prime theater, which features "Sublime seating" which is described on their website as, "...spacious seating that reverberates with film-responsive subwoofers, putting you inside the movie action." It caught my wife off guard as it was her first time in such a chair and I forgot to mention it.

The subwoofers are under the seats?

I don't think so. The seat just moves in accordance with the theater's subwoofers.

That's cool. I remember seeing Terminator 3D at Universal Studios decades ago, and it kinda featured something like that.

I like that Kubrick's wife paid a visit.

A sequel to the book? I hope he doesn't stumble there. I read bits of the Last Starfighter ripoff and skipped it.

I didn't think Armada was all that bad. I went to a book signing in NYC while he was promoting it.
