(Contemplates justification to ban Ender for USN comment) :p

If we're talking 18th - 19th century, the RN was undoubtedly supreme. Though they did have quite a bit of trouble with our heavy frigates, which outclassed anything the RN could field in that size range. ;)

Switching back on topic, God I wish we had some news about another wave of Armada! :_|

You can't ban the truth, Nick!

Apparently there was news of a new FAQ at Adepticon, which should be coming soon. FFG more or less confirmed the FAQ will rule that Strategic Adviser only works on an unactivated ship. They were tight lipped on a Wave 8, because the Con was all about Legion.

When, based on past waves, do we expect to hear a formal announcement? Has there been a trend in past years?

Not sure. I can understand their focus on Legion - they want to get a foothold in a market dominated mostly by Games Workshop, and that means investing upfront to raise brand awareness and the like. Armada would have been an easier sell, because there was not really any competition in terms of quality, depth of tactical play, and being pre-painted and pre-assembled.

Legion, like Warhammer and W40K, is unpainted and requires the models to be assembled. It's a very different point of the market, and it requires time invested by the gamer. I would submit, with no inside information here, that Armada fans are not so much being taken for granted, as being trusted to understand that FFG needs Legion to succeed in order to keep Armada going, so they're going to give Legion some TLC right now.

I suspect the next Armada announcement will include Imperialized Dreadnaught from the Rebels finale.

They've made every other ship in Rebels an Armada ship, so why not.

I'd love the Imperialized Dreadnaught. My dream wave at this point (excluding ST ships):
    • Imperial Dreadnaught - medium base
    • Dornean gunship - small base or flotilla pack
I want the U-wings as well, so maybe they could include them in the gunship set. Like how they included the Mando fighters in the Chimaera pack.

Sadly, CoolStuff was out of the new AoR book, so I won't be able to get it before the next game! Ah, well... picked up the latest Shadowrun and Lone Wolf material in its stead.

Dreadnaught and Dornean gunship make a lot of sense as the next release actually. Same sized ships and both appeared in Rebels. Also, they are opposite factions.

Yeah, plus I'm actually a fan of more smaller or mid sized ships. They are often more versatile and more fun to use than just throwing a handful of MC80's and ISD's on the board and having them get into a dice throwing match.

Fully Operational. Cyphers and Masks isn't out yet, at least at CoolStuff.

The Dornean Gunship is pretty tiny compared to the Legends-era Dreadnought. It is possible that the Rebels Dreadnought is smaller.

Now I feel like I need to add a Viscount Nelson as an old Republic admiral to a KOTOR era game... :(

I was thinking about this; I'm bummed they went for Blind Kanan for IA, since non-blind would be a great PC option for the RPG:

But, taking the Alliance Smuggler mini and having a headswap done would enable a really good Force & Destiny style PC to be made up, especially using the colour scheme from the awful Jedi Outcast game (the Jedi Knight, I think, who had the blue tunic).

    Hmmmm...

If HMS Victory is so great why can't she sail under her own power? USS Constitution can. :)

But I have pens made out of the hulls of both ships, so it's all good.

Because one's a 44 gun frigate, the other a first rate ship of the line?

Well, I'll admit the other is a first-rate port decoration.

Gentlemen, let's just all agree that the two greatest navies in modern history are the US Navy and Royal Navy. One has the greatest frigate of all time, the other the greatest 1st rate ship of the line of all time. There, argument settled. The Special Relationship has been saved, huzzah!
