NEW GIRL Actress Hannah Simone To Play The Lead In ABC's GREATEST AMERICAN HERO Reboot
    [IMG]
I love the original series, but it should be only a limited series as the nuance of the show is learning how to be a super hero. Once that's gone, the appeal goes down the toilet. So, the remake needs to keep the show fresh if it's going to be more than a season or two.

So the greatest American hero is british born? That would be correct.

UGH! Some shows should not be rebooted (but then, as we've established I hate reboots in general)

Voltron Season 6 just got loaded onto Netflix. The first two episodes were really good and I loved how they kicked off the season.

Detroiters is finally back with it's 2nd season this Thursday. My wife and I love this one. "Ooooooooh Devereux!"

Okay! So this ad for Netfilx and T-moblie has been driving me nuts from an responsibility in advertising and also TV ratings, specifically the moment here for T-moblie family plan and Netflix at 10 seconds in

    https://www.ispot.tv/ad/dAeL/t-mobile-unlimited-family-plan-lost-in-space

So the ad has the high schooler watching Glow in the hallway to get "pumped up" for a presentation

(Who the actress is probably, like, a 26 year old in glasses but whatever) Her name may be Sarah note the "Sarah 4 Senior Prez" sign in the background. She watching Glow before she kicks down the door for her Senior Class high school President "elect me" speech, right? But Glow is TV-MA! 18 and over! Which a high schooler, even a senior, wouldn't be allowed to watch or if she is, it would have to be with parent supervising her and explaining to her the consequences of the adult content. And surely she couldn't be watching it in a public school! And since the whole ad is based around a "family plan" it seems to be espousing family values which this willfully ignoring parental ratings doesn't jive with. So, basically, it's advertising content that the person they're targeting in this moment, high schoolers, cannot watch. Or are they condoning ignoring TV ratings? Of a service they're providing?

Or maybe there's a whole narrative layer to the ad that the girl IS a 26 year old in glasses undercover in a 21 Jump Street kind of way so she is allowed to watch Glow unsupervised? That's the only way I can rationalize it.

Well, yah, I know people don't at all but it's surprising that a straight up TV ad would just willfully advocate ignoring it.

Maybe they know their audience won't care? I mean, I had friends in high school that would, for fun, look at hard-core pornography in Physics. So anyone that actually raises a fuss about the ad would just give Netflix free exposure and likely galvanize the people that are actually likely to watch Glow.

Now, I wouldn't be surprises if that was Netflix's strategy. But T-Mobile makes me a bit unsure.

I think it's a T-Moblie ad where they didn't cross their Ts and dot their I's about the netflix content rating and more about how they're advertising to each demographic. Cuz the same ad have the kids and family watching Lost in Space and Series of Unfortunate Events in the ad (obviously they have to push the Netflix branded content and the newest stuff too!) so they needed a teenager targeted show, which they have in 13 reasons why, but that wouldn't work with the "pump you up / transfomative power of the Netflix brand" vibe that the advertising is showing. kids watching lost in space thinks they're in space, high schooler watching glow think they're a big shot wrestler, etc. Not sure any other show they could use for that particular "Get hyped! In school!" plot point. Maybe Stranger Things but stuff that happens in school on that show tends to generally involve the threat of monsters eating people or psychics blowing people up, etc. Also it's been almost a year from Season 2!

So what is everyone watching this summer before the Fall 2018 season starts?

I've checked out 2/3 episodes of Succession so far. I usually give a series the "4 episode test", but I think I'll make a determination after 3 for this one. I'm still mildly curious while my wife's interest is fading. It may be one of those that I watch on my iPad while I work out.

But other than that, this summer I'll look forward to new episodes of Dragonball Super, Ducktales, and Orange is the New Black.

Skipping Luke Cage S2 as I never finished S1.

Late July / Early August going to check out Making It with Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman with the wife and then S4 of Better Call Saul is probably what I'm most anticipating.

Going to try and catch up on stuff i have banked on my Tivo: backhalf of Dark Matter S3, The Gifted season finale, The Expanse S3, back 2/3rds of Legion. Been keeping up with Westworld and Cloak & Dagger as far as live airings go. Expedition Unknown moved over to the Discovery Channel from Travel Channel this summer also but has a new season going so I'll be banking a few of those as well. When Castlevania's new season hits I'll definitely be binging that too.

If I make a dent into those, I'm going to try to find time to finish up the backhalf of Punisher S1, Jessica Jones S2 and Luke Cage S2 but I probably wont get caught up on those until the fall before the next show hits. Gotta finish the last few episodes of Stranger Things S2 as well.

Recently watched Barry S1 on HBO, which I rather enjoyed. It's funny but it's not really a comedy. Looking forward to S2.

Same. I'm glad I waited to binge them instead of watching them week to week.

Me too- I went through those much faster than I had anticipated. Keeping the season and episodes short was the right format.

There's barely 3 months till TeeVee gets heavy again so I'm actually working my way through Kyrpton which I missed when it aired but that's a solid 2 months to stretch it out. Preacher starts up this Sunday and Fear the Walking Dead comes back in early august so that's 2. Heck Supergirl getting moved to Sundays is going to throw my already crazy heavy Sunday TV sked even more outta whack.

Luke Cage starting up on Friday too will probably take me until Sept.

Personally how I keep ontop of multiple shows is to a maintain a fairly rigorous regimen of "one episode a week", the problem with banking to binge watch is that it becomes a pile on of a pile on of I'll get to it later shows.

I will say the start of this summer so far is I kind of miss the Twin Peaks S1-2-movie-S3 binge that kept me going all last summer from May to September. That I had to work like a math problem, at least 3 episodes a week to keep up the pace. Was pretty cool, though, really trippy.

I usually bank only a couple shows, specifically for the mid/late summer lull. But I'm trying to cut back on adding new shows in general to make time for other things (at the very least, digging into the Netflix backlog... I really do want to watch Breaking Bad at some point), and I might cut back to basic TV after Expanse & Westworld finish this season, since so many of regular cable shows won't be back until next summer anyways.

Speaking of adding new shows .... there not a lot new announced for the fall TeeVee season I want to watch. Really, I've been adding a show a year (or more!) at a pretty steady pace but aside from maybe checking out the Whiskey Cavalier pilot outta curiosity just to see why Lauren Cohan jumped ship from Walking Dead (aside from just a bigger paycheque but this was really the best she could do?)

But there is one show I may check out which is the Michel Gondry / Jim Carrey show "Kidding" which looks kinda out-there which I enjoy.

There's 3 upcoming Netflix shows, Matt Groneing's netflix show and Emma Stone / Justin Theroux/ Jonah Hill / Cary Fukunga "Maniac" and whenever the Cohen Brothers show hits but the last 2 don't even have release dates yet. But apparently they are all 2018! Maybe Maniac will land in August, that would be easier.

But that's it! Bad TV executives, not adding anything new I want to watch. Well, okay, not as much and certainly nothing on network.

I’m glad you mentioned The handmaid’s Tale. It’s so good, I’m surprised there isn’t a dedicated thread.

I’m about to finish up season 1, and then it’s into season 2.

I hesitated to watch it because I read the book for my A-level in English, and hated it. It wasn’t the themes, more I didn’t care for Atwood's style, and probably didn’t care for the relentless bleakness at 17. Also picking it to bits for six weeks didn’t help.

We also watched the film, which wasn’t much better.

But 25 years later, and I am loving the show. It doesn’t hurt that I love Elizabeth Moss because of Mad Men, but everyone in this is tremendous. It’s thoroughly engaging, and pertinent, with things like the steady erosion of rights to a patriarchy hiding behind the Bible to sudjugate society being a little closer to home than my 17 yo brain could appreciate.

Edit: I also love that the walkie-talkies sound like the Imperial Probe Droid On Hoth. The sound fx person is definitely a SW fan.

Season 1 scared the hell out of me because there was so much that I could see happening, like women’s bank accounts being arbitrarily closed, among quite a bit else.

Yah and also I have to start/finish Handmaid's Tale Season 2 before the Emmys cuz I don't want a twist for S2 spoiled by the emmy clip package, dangit. Still working my way through Orphan Black Season 2 (about 2 eps left) but when that's done hopefully Handmaid's Tale Season 2 from July-Sept

Oh yeah. It must have begun production before Trump got elected, but they hit pay dirt with the timing.

Just the chipping away at rights, first softer targets, then it grows. Until bank accounts are restricted, those that can work are restricted. And so on.

At least Trump isn’t a religious nut...I guess?

I know I know and I can't right now. I know it's better than probably anything else I'm currently watching but I need to focus on some things other than TV right now so I am avoiding anything that I would binge (like BB or Netflix Marvel). By sticking with WW & C&D, it's only an episode of each each week. Damn my failing attempts at productivity.

So I thought Handmaid’s Tale S02 was ten episodes like S01. Episode ten even ended like a season would, with a bit of a cliffhanger. But no, there are actually twelve, so happy days! Episode 11 was fantastic, bring on 12.
