Wanted by Cracken: The First Mother or The Dark Fate of an Fallen Heroine (borrowed from here.)

Name: First Mother, (possible true identity: Barris Offee)

    Species: Mirialan

    Gender: Female

    Homeworld: Mirial

    Height: 1.66 meters

    Age: 35

Crimes Against the Galactic Republic and Rebel Alliance: Murder and torture of Republic and Alliance personnel, espionage, aiding Separatist forces, aiding Imperial forces.

    Reward for Capture: 30,000 credits

Reward for Elimination: 15,000 credits (Visual and physical proof must be provided)

The Mirialan known as First Mother is reported to wear, what appears to be a simple black robe. However, upon closer inspection, a task that could be hazardous to one’s health, there are detailed geometric designs embroidered all across the fabric. She carries a red lightsaber, which she uses with deadly efficiency. She is very powerful and strong in the Force.

Personal Addendum – General Airen Cracken
“The existence of the target known as First Mother has been confirmed by multiple sources. The true identity of this target is another matter, and cannot be confirmed at this time. The most recent report of a group successfully returning from facing this target in person is almost a decade old. The group had just lost a close friend and ally during the encounter and therefore their testimony could be clouded by grief. Another source cited in the report, named only as Fulcrum, endured more than a month of intense torture and questioning regarding Alliance operations and fleet movements. As such, Fulcrum’s testimony to the true identity of this target could be skewed or compromised as well. Whatever the truth is behind this targets identity, extreme caution should be used if Alliance personnel ever encounter this target.”

Behind the Screen: First Mother Backstory
Fleeing arrest by the Jedi Order, after a failed attempt to frame fellow padawan Ahsoka Tano, Barriss Offee fled to the Outer Rim. There she stayed in hiding while the Clone Wars continued. She was eventually approached by a representative of Darth Sidious. After a series of talks she finally agreed to meet with Sidious. She was shocked to see the Supreme Chancellor. He spun a tale of how the Jedi had started to manipulate Galactic Politics and steer the Galaxy towards a chaotic spiral. Palpatine claimed that he wanted to end the Clone Wars and bring order and peace to the Galaxy once again, and that the Jedi had been blocking his progress in trying to end the conflict.

While she was suspicious, Palpatine was able to sprinkle in just enough facts to cloud the padawan’s perception and convince her to work with him behind the scenes. By the time Order 66 was enacted Barriss was so far fallen that she didn’t bat an eye or shed a tear for any of her former friends and mentors. Palpatine and Vader had one final test for Barriss. She was to lead an operation to capture her former Master, Luminara Unduli. She completed this assignment with efficiency and cunning. Later she helped to break the will of one of the Temple guards and convert him to the Dark Side. As a reward Barriss was given the title First Mother and placed in charge of the Training and Indoctrination regiment of the Inquisitorius and its acolytes.

@Voltron64 - The backstory fails to mention why the Jedi Order wanted to arrest her in the first place.

My Lord Nelf is Inquisitorious. Although I barely reference the Order, this would be a useful personage to name drop.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my above poll on the current challenge. It looks like most are in favor of retrying the Fanon Planet challenge, this time without requiring a second element. I will do my best to get that set up in the next few days; in the meantime, if anyone else would like to weigh in, please do. :)

@Voltron64, your material on the First Mother looks more like a character profile or a storyline idea; a better place for it might be in the Plot Bunny Index and Donation Thread (run by @Gamiel).

“My desire is to participate, Garel City, Garel”:
    The GFFA’s Big Apple/Blumfruit/Jogan/Meiloorun/Muja/Etc.

    “Commence information dissemination…
    I embark during this rotation…”

Most of us know Garel City as the capital of Garel (Lothal Sector) and the base of the Spectres’ operations in Rebels season 2. In the Rebels-based stories of Raissa Baiard and myself, however, it has become kind of a Space!NewYorkCity, with similar landmarks, institutions, and cultural artifacts. Here some of these are offered to the community both for use in stories and for general amusement. More to come, of course!

    “Those backrocket blues
    Begin to lose structural integrity...”

The Garel City Review Of Holobooks: Semi-monthly publication featuring articles on literature, culture, current events, and various sentient-interest topics. (RL basis: The New York Review of Books; credit Raissa Baiard)

The Garel Citizen: The space!New Yorker. 'Nuff said. :p

Lower North Side: historical lower-to-middle-class neighborhood home to such picturesque shops as Mun’s Antiquarian Books and Grug’ag’pyg’naq’s Super Value Hardware. (RL basis: the Lower East Side)

M’d-s’n Avenue: main drag of the Upper North Side’s insanely posh, upscale shopping district, featuring such finer retail establishments as Poochy, Herf & Mern, D’ogiva Chocolatier, Forn-Aurek-Osk Blacke, and Nespresso. (RL basis: Madison Avenue)

The Noogenheym Museum: One of the Lothal Sector’s foremost modern art museums. (RL basis: the Guggenheim Museum)

Za’Barr’s: Deli and finer foods retailer on the North Side, at which one may purchase some of Garel City’s trademark food products, including:

    • deli-style d’il pykkles
    • black-and-white Wookiee-ookiees

To begin with, a few updates:

Aaaaaand now... it gives me great pleasure to announce
    Fanon Planet Challenge 2.0!

This is a revised and hopefully more user-friendly version of the Fanon Planet Plus One Challenge, which received no entries. As with that one, you may choose a number from 1 to 15 to be assigned a planet-related fanon entry to incorporate into your story. (If it is one of your own fanon entries, though, I'll ask you to choose a new number.) This time, however, you are not required to incorporate a second fanon element (unless you really, really want to, of course).

The list of participants is below and includes those who signed up for the Fanon Planet Plus One Challenge when it was first launched. Those people are tagged; please let me know if you would like to keep the planet you received when you signed up then, pick a new number, or remove yourself from the challenge. (I can remind you by PM if you've forgotten what you received.)

The deadline to post stories will 11:59 PST on Monday, November 12, so you will have about four months to complete your story. At that point voting will be open for two weeks, and winners will be posted on or soon after Monday, November 26.

The winner will get to choose the next challenge. If thread title changing functionality is back by that point (though don't hold your breath), then the winner will get his or her story listed in the title of the Fanon Thread for a week, too.

Have fun, all! And please feel free to ask any questions that you may have. :)

    SPACER NOMADS

The Kull Mining Corporation-Clans: Seldom seen outside of their voidsuits the Kull are ryn who trade in the ore and stone they mine but are also known for their musicians, theatre-plays and void-warriors (all three groups which are for hire, as are the Kull’s miners and their knowledge).

The Kull are divided into Corporation-Clans which in turn are divided into shipholds. A clan usually lay claim on a territory – which is usually a system, a planet, an asteroid cluster – which gives them solo right among the Kull to mine and built in that territory, and they stay in that claim until the ore run out or they are driven from there by other (more often it’s the later).

While ryn make up the majority of the Corporation-Clans do they sometime adopt in people from other species, even free droids (which doesn’t mean that they don’t own non-free droids) but the amount of non-ryn among the Corporation-Clans are belived to be between 1 - 5%.

Ostersjon League: a group of herglic space nomads found in [whatever part of the GFFA you want], they offer transport, trade, help with technology and gambling. When it come to the last part so are Ostersjon League infamous for it, in every spaceport’s League quarters you will find at least one gambling den (legal or not) and every Ostersjonic transporter is said to be a small casino.
The Ostersjon League trade with any realm/state/planet in their part of space that are willing to trade with them but they show a preference for landing near or in water.

Herglics from the Ostersjon League show ritualistic scarifications marking out family, rank, ship, honours and many other things. They put importance on cleanliness, especially on pure water and their internal currency is based on units of clear water.

    -x-x-x-x-

Obe d’Mar Xhi: an ancient and inbreed clan of duros space-nomads, with an contempt toward the Republic and its laws that goes back at least a thousand years. This contempt is just as strong for the Republic’s successor: the Empire.
As such they have no problem breaking Republic, and later Imperial, law. They are willing to trade with anything and anybody no matter what or who, legal or not. Known to keep their contract to the letter (if not the spirit) but having no loyalty with former trading partner once the deal has ended.

How large the Obe d’Mar Xhi clan is is a mystery, since its members are extremely tightlipped toward outsiders, it’s is spread out all over the galaxy and ships have been known to go unrecorded for decades and then reaper. The lowest guesses are around ten thousand while the highest believe that there can be billions of Obe d’Mar Xhi clan-members out there.

    The Karl-Einar Circus Nomads
: The Karl-Einar ryn is always a welcome sight among the backwater planets and stations they frequents, their ships arrive painted in bright colours, playing holograms and music, heralding that the circus has come. Entertainment is the Karl-Einar's trade, mostly in the form of music and showing of skilled practitioners: knife throwing, sharp shooting, acrobatics, stage magicians, clowns, animal trainers and similar. They usually also offer games of change (like wheels of fortune) and skill ("can you hit enough bottles to win the price?"), sell circus food (candy floss, toffee apples, popcorn, roosted nuts, etc.), fortunetelling and selling of charms and protective talismans.
The towns and bases that the Karl-Einar karnivals visits are usually that kind of places where people are hardworking and invest in practical stuff, this means that they are starved on entertainment, something that makes the arrival of a Karl-Einar karnivals a welcome sight.
Beside entertainment and circus food do the Karl-Einar ryn usually also sell their knowledge of engineering, animal handling, and sewing.

A Karl-Einar karnival is usually made up by one larger ship and 3-10 smaller ones but there exist karnival that's only one large ship, only large ships or only small ships. New karnivals are crated form time to time – usually when a existing karnival grow too large for the area they have claimed to, but sometime a new one is created because infighting and the karnival split in two new ones – and they have to find their own area to travel and entertain in.
The exact number of Karl-Einar karnivals that exist is unknown, but each of them have a rut of planets and bases staked out that other karnivals are not allowed to follow, there is usually a gathering of all the karnivals near each other once every year-to-third year (depending on the area) and all the karnivals try to gather every 50 on a backwater planet decided by their star-seers during the last gathering but there has never been one where all the karnivals have appeared in the last 700 years.

The Karl-Einar ryn don’t cheat, trick or steal from paying people that show them at least a token of respect, people that mistreat them or skip payment will soon find themselves without any dignity or valuables on themselves, if not both.

Something few outsiders know is that the colourful powder that the ryn paint themselves with and throw around them is partly made from their dead. The Karl-Einar mummify their dead and then ritually grind the mummies into powder with is blended with colour and spices. By painting themselves with the powder and throwing it around themselves when on new planets the Karl-Einar ryn believe they are protecting themselves from evil spirits.

White Red Sphere Triangle Explorators: this antediluvian group of space nomads is formed around a core group of gree who are supposedly continuing with an ancient mission given to their ancestors. In time those ancestors and their decedents gathered followers to help them when their own numbers grow smaller and their original equipment begun to fail them.

The Explorators can be found all around the galaxy, their original ships turned into the core of hyperspace capable spacestation created by all the generations of patching, upgrading and installing. Those spacestation are usually surrounded by smaller ‘ships repairing, patrolling, protecting, coming or going. By some unknown mean so do the different Explorator fleets (as they have become known as) keep in contact regarding all important information. It’s been suggested that they use ancient gree-tech, mystical abilities or some kind of astropathy.
What the Explorators mission is seemingly only known by the gree and they are not willing to explain to “beings who would just not understand”, but it has been theories by outside observers that not even the gree know and they are just continuing what they saw their forebears do.

The Explorator-servants of the gree comes from all manner of species that the Explorator ships have come in contacted with but share one elaborated an baroque culture. Many of them are masked, speak in strange ways and females among the Explorator-servants are sexually active with outsiders when given chance to prevent inbreeding.
To get in personal contact with the gree at the core of the Explorators outsiders will have to go through all manners of rituals and diplomatic talks.

Just was teasing you a little in a friendly manner, Gamiel; no harm meant. @};- Of course your post looks great, and I like the variety of species you have here—we don't see Herglics often these days, and it's always good to see the Ryn, for example (@TheRynJedi would probably be very happy to see them here too).

Always happy to see some love for the Ryn!

(As long as it's accurate, unlike some of the facts and art that actually got published in an rpg book that contradicted stuff James Luceno (who created them) said in his books. But... That's a rant for another day, lol.)

That's part of the reason why I chose them, they are presented as one of those old spacefaring species that had their own interstellar empire of some sort before joining the Republic but we never really see them being used.

Ultimate Alien Anthology, the lack of hygiene part and no mention of their tail?

When it come to the Kull Mining Corporation-Clans so did I actually begin with “nomadic deepspace miners” then chose species. By taking the ryn I had three things that they were known for, mercenaries, musicians and wanderers* and I tried to incorporate all three. After all why us ryn if they are not going to have the stuff associated with them.
    * And the magnificent moustaches part also even if it doesn’t get a mention, so technically four thing

I have two more ryn based ideas for space nomads – one based on their role as mercenaries and another idea that has a group of ryn that are scoundrels and cutthroats, the kind that give the other ryn a bad reputation. Will see if they became something more than just ideas.

    Bounty Hunter Syndicates

Vorkox Templars: An religious order of bounty and big game hunters worshiping Scorekeeper. Known trophy takers. Don't go after prey that will not be a challenge and has been known to throw away weapons to give their prey more of a fair chance.

Kiom's Void Hunters: Spacepirate hunters. Usually never engage their prey eye to eye instead do it ship to ship. Can also be hired to guard travelling ships. Mostly duros.

Ruth's Hangmen: Specialise in taking "dead or alive" bounties alive so they can be executed by a court of law. Don't take unlawful bounty contracts.

The Humble Findsmen Society: a tong for Findsmen traveling outside of Gand. It helps with (among other things) translation, explaining the law and social practises for the Findsmen and vice versa to people wanting to hire Findsmen.

Rendar's Detective Service: An interstellar network of inquiry agents that usually work with finding lost people, items, ships or similar but also take closed bounty contracts. They sometime hunt open bounty contracts if they realise that a bounty is near one of their branch houses but will usually not follow them outside of their own known territory.
