    Stop this.

The post was inappropriate and it doesn’t matter that it was a joke. You can all move on.

P.S. “would it be acceptable if I posted X thing” as an example of hate speech is not a good look

Sorry Jay, just was very hard not to take it personally. I obviously didn't mean to imply I would ever say something like that myself. Nor to derail the... Well, already derailed thread :p

@GrandAdmiralJello, I apologize. My post was impulsive and I should not have responded that way. Moving on now.

I honestly find these stories life-affirming. There is order in this world.

These Islanders dislike of strangers can be traced back, like most things awful, to a pervert of the English Royal Navy, who went to the Andaman Islands in the 1880's and kidnapped a bunch of their children from North Sentinel, and did weird stuff to them...

This is the first of a number of tweets about it.

Now the police are flipping out about how to retrieve his body...
    https://www.vice.com/en_au/article/...6mgn2ODUbUw1MPX0w25O4RUOmLKGpl9KyIRw_5AHFMJ1o

not only do the Sentinelese have a reputation for violent resistance, they are also thought to be catastrophically susceptible to outside viruses and diseases. Something as simple as a common flu could threaten to wipe out their ancient tribe of 50 to 150 people altogether. For that same reason, retrieving John’s remains is proving difficult for authorities.

"It's a difficult proposition," said Dependera Pathak, director-general of police on India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the ABC reports. "We have to see what is possible, taking utmost care of the sensitivity of the group and the legal requirements."

Police are currently consulting with tribal welfare experts, anthropologists, and scholars to come up with the best means of approach. They are yet to arrive at a decision as to how the American’s body should be retrieved.

His journal entries are ****ing priceless.

“I heard the whoops and shouts from the hunt,” he wrote. “I made sure to stay out of arrow range… I tried to parrot their words back to them. They burst out laughing… I hollered, ‘My name is John, I love you and Jesus loves you’.”

“This is not a pointless thing. The eternal lives of this tribe is at hand and I can’t wait to see them around the throne of God worshipping in their own language,” he wrote. He did express fear for his own safety, however, admitting that his mission “almost seems like certain death” and telling God that “If you want me to get actually shot or even killed with an arrow then so be it.

“I think I could be more useful alive, though,” he added.

    Self-important idiot.

It would be one thing if he were trying to convert a group of people who were immune to common diseases-- still annoying and old-school Western arrogance-- but he literally could have killed them all. It's hard to feel any sympathy.

For someome that supposedly has so much worldly experience, this guy sounds like he walked straight out of seminary onto the island. Although, I feel like it's doing a disservice to people who actually go through seminary.

I put his mentality in the same place as those preachers who handle poisonous snakes in front of their flock thinking the power of God will keep them safe. Then they get bit and die.
