    ~~

Han is amazed by Leia's strength and resilience. She bore up under the crushing weight of losing Alderaan and her adoptive parents and then discovered the shocking truth of her paternity. If it hadn't been juxtaposed to her discovering that Luke was her twin, it would've been intolerable.

Her strength was such that you almost felt you could dash against it and be wounded irrevocably.

But long ago, with the first exchange of snarky wit between he and Leia, Han had known how to draw a smile, a chuckle, a softer expression. The tension would lessen, even if temporarily.

Even before he knew what to do with it, Han had been allowed into Leia's inner circle, those she trusted, cared about, and would live and die for.

If he were honest, Han would find himself wondering, what'd I do to deserve her? Then he'd shrug and just let himself feel grateful.

I can see how Han would feel in awe of Leia. She did go through so much and seeing how they ended up in TFA he probably didn't feel worthy of her. Very nice Nyota :)

Oh, this was so beautiful! There's such a strength and resilience to Leia that you managed to capture in just a few words! She's been through so much, but she's still able to be a bulwark for others. I love the line about her strength being a rock foes could be dashed against. It's too true! But what's even more amazing is how Leia has the capacity to love and open her heart, no matter her pain for what she's lost. She gained a brother in Luke, and found love with Han, who in turn encourage her and helps ease her burdens so that she can carry on supporting others. Han has nothing to question; he is just as vital to her as she is to him, and I adore how you portrayed the strength of their bond!

Fantastic work - and a lovely way to showcase the poem! I can't wait to see what you do next! [face_love] =D=

    Pairing: Talon/Shada

Shada slid easily into the role of second in command. She had an eye for detail and a knack for negotiation that stood her in good stead. She had learned a lot from Mara Jade whose talent for "reading" people and situations was only surpassed by Karrde's. Karrde had worried that Shada would not be "up to the task", but it didn't take him long to realize that Shada was more than competent. As for anything romantic, Talon was "waiting and seeing."

Luke's and Mara's wedding was the perfect segue to starting something, or more accurately, seeing if things were clicking between him and Shada. She accompanied him to the wedding and festivities afterwards, wearing a lovely turquoise gown with a pair of dangling ear rings that caught the light in multifaceted sparkles.

He had to admit she looked lovely, and he told her so with his usual candor.

Shada smiled gratefully. Karrde was distinguished and suave, someone she had respected since their working relationship started. Shada was not in the slightest reluctant to see where things might lead between them.

As for the rest of the Wild Karrde crew, they smirked and shared "About time" looks.

All SW couples should do couple therapy with you, Ny, in order to get their happily ever after (back). Very sweet posts from you.

And sorry that I am off-line a lot, but this summer, no matter how hot it can be at times, is better enjoyed in nature and that means my laptop stays packed into its case.

Borrowed from Raissa Baiard the lovely "Floating Fish" from "Do Not Disturb"
    @};-

    Timeframe: Han and Leia's anniversary.
Note: They have twin girls, Jaina and Tanda.

    —-

Lando had gifted the Solos with a stay at the resort for their 10th anniversary.

The Floating Fish restaurant was attached to a small, elegant casino of the same name.
The decor was exquisite, in shades of blue and green, with subtly shifting lighting that made it seem like it was underwater.
Ornate columns shaped like twining water plants ringed the dining room, and between them, floating globes of water with brightly colored fish swimming inside.
An enormous globe with a miniature reef inside was the restaurant’s centerpiece.
There was an arch of smaller globes, each containing a different Naboo scalefish that hovered over the bandstand where a group of Mon Calamari and Quarren musicians played lively rhythms on golden horns.

Leia was amazed by the beauty and uniqueness. Lando had really outdone himself. She had always known he was more substance than flash, but this proved it.

She felt all the tension of working with fractious governmental types slip finally away. Their kids, Jaina and Tanda, were staying with Luke's family while she and Han were away.

It hadn't taken much persuading, to be frank. Leia was ready for a getaway.

Han was as well; he was splitting his time between ferrying legitimate cargo and refugees to new worlds.

Han teased Leia about whether she was worrying over leaving the kids for a full two weeks.

"I trust Luke and Mara." She assured, referring to the former Inquisitor turned Rebel defector.

It had taken a lot of doing but Luke's instant infatuation had turned into a deep and abiding love and passion; seeing her brother so happy made Leia give him the benefit of the doubt. She found Mara to be loyal, feisty, and pragmatic, which balanced out Luke's tendency to see things almost too optimistically.

    **

Lando stopped by their table to see how they were enjoying the meal of delicately grilled entrees and succulent vegetables and lighter-than-air puff-pastries.

"It's delicious!" Leia enthused. "You've done excellently for yourself."

Lando grinned. He was as dashing as ever, Leia saw, and she wondered if his erstwhile lover, Kasha Bateen, was still in the picture.

Han teased Lando about this very thing. "I'm surprised she's put up with you this long."

"Hey! She's the only one who can keep me honest." Lando said.

"Yeah, I know what that's like." Han said, giving Leia a tender glance.

    ***

The band shifted to a mellower tune, and Han and Leia took to the dance floor. She nestled into his hold.

It was a relaxing evening, and she and Han fell into their easy harmony, where even the silences spoke of their unfailing love and devotion.

    On Genuine Friendships-- Leia Introspection

Dedicated to the tactful and helpful to any and sundry @Findswoman @};-
And @brodiew - whose Amilyn characterization is too perfect. [face_laugh]

Leia had always been blessed with friends who gave a sympathetic ear (Winter), who was also there to help out in practical ways as an assistant in her professional duties, but in unexpected ways by Amilyn Holdo. Growing up, Amilyn's unique disposition had brought out Leia's lighthearted laughing and spontaneous side, even at those times when her natural tendency would have been to be ultra-serious.

Amilyn had given Leia permission to be ... herself, without the strictures and demands of a clandestine Rebellion.

Then the (at first) insufferable Han Solo had come along and just reinforced all the snark in Leia's nature. He had gotten under her skin in more than one kind of way, and now as she settled their twins in for the night, she felt a sense of utter gratitude.

When she shared these sentiments with Luke during their weekly lunch together, he merely grinned and commented: "A person is known by the friends they draw. You draw warm, genuine, loyal friends because that's how you are."

Leia blushed with pleased appreciation. "As do you."

Luke grinned back. He was so loving and compassionate, it was little wonder people were drawn to him. Those very qualities had won him the love of his life.
"Guess we're both blessed." He remarked contentedly.

Aww, Nyota, this is really sweet of you! [face_love] What very sweet tribute that packs friendship and love of pretty much all kinds into a short vignette—Leia is truly the sort who attracts both true friendship and true love. Her brother, her husband, and her very unique pink-haired friend are all, in their ways, evidence of that. Thanks so much for this little day-brightened! :) =D=

AN: Sequel of sorts to "Like Someone in Love", where Corran and Mirax make a match out of L/M. [face_laugh]

This is dedicated to the inestimable @Mira_Jade ...

Mara felt no end of irony connected with Endor Day, which day it happened to be on the NR Calendar. It was associated with all kinds of tangled emotions. So many times, her personal and world views had to be reinvented.

Palpatine had always presented himself as a harsh taskmaster, but one whose approval she valued beyond expression and would do anything to acquire. The Rebels had been "the implacable enemy," and Skywalker more than the rest! Now, here she was, friends with Luke, and more, and he had never been anything but what and whom he appeared. An unexpected ally, a true friend, and now ... are we soul mates? Mara wondered with wry amusement.

Something else that struck Mara as a sharp surprise was how much she had acquired a taste for all things chocolate, thanks to Luke's influence. Now, she sipped a beverage of hot chocolate with whipping cream liberally applied, as she and Luke enjoyed the view from a balcony in a Nabooian resort.

Luke was aware of Mara's thoughtful frame of mind. Ever since they had had a meal with the Horns a couple months ago, their relationship had taken a right-angled turn. He was not complaining. As a matter of fact, he was thrilled!

"Mara," He said with that unnerving ability to pick up on her unspoken train of thought, "Have I ever told you how much I admire you for being able to pick up and move on? Your resilience and emotional strength are nothing if not exemplary. You and my sister have that in common. Her ability to do that, and to think of others and a larger cause, is something I've always marveled at!"

Mara blushed uncharacteristically. "I guess I never thought of it in terms of courage or any such thing; it was just what I needed to do, so I did it." She admitted pragmatically. "Guess that's what helped Leia keep going too..."

Luke smiled, his blue eyes tender. "No, you could've wallowed or withdrawn, but you didn't. Guess that's why I think I was more than a little in love with you even at Wayland."

"You were not!" Mara exclaimed, with an indulgent eye-roll.

"Says you." Luke retorted, and kissed her breathless.

Oh! It looks like I missed so many delightful gems during my mini-hiatus. Let me fix that now! :D

Shada/Karrde - What a Legends oldie but goodie! The introspection here was spot on and sweet, on both sides of their developing relationship. That last line just had me chuckling. About time, indeed! :p

The Floating Fish - Aw! What a wonderfully worded scene, all around! The atmosphere, the good food, the good friends - Leia and Han deserve this moment of happiness and so much so. [face_love]

On Genuine Friendships - I adored the line about a person being known by the friends they draw. [face_love] There's certainly much to love about Leia - and Luke! - and they share that love in return.

Then, lastly, I adored the coda to "Like Someone in Love" more than I can say. Luke and Mara have certainly taken a right turn in their relationship, but in the best of ways! Following that, I can only imagine Endor Day inspiring mixed emotions for Mara. She loved Palpatine like a father, in a twisted way, and earnestly endeavored to earn his favor and respect. But that was all sorts of unhealthy and wrong, and now, all of the changes and challenges she's overcome have lead her to the love she's found with Luke. I loved Mara viewing her perseverance as simply 'needs must', but Luke's right. She has an indomitable soul; she's a survivor, and only stronger for what she's overcome. Thank you for sharing this one, in particular. It struck a chord, in the best of ways! [face_love]

Wonderful work, my friend, as always! =D= [:D]

Thanks for the lovely, lovely reviews. @};-

    ~

    "Master and Apprentice"

Jaina told her Aunt Mara enthusiastically about the latest starfighter models and light cruisers and frigates. Mara was amused. Jaina was pure Solo when it came to the love of and skill with piloting, and she also got it from her Uncle, when it came down to it.

Jaina and Mara were recently paired as Master and Apprentice, and they worked well together.

Neither one of them was particularly diplomatic, both being rather outspoken. Jaina was a bit ahead of Mara in the "I can be tactful if I want to be," being Leia's daughter, but it so happened that she didn't usually want to be...

Case in point was when she teamed up with Zekk, another student at the Jedi Praxeum. They got up to mischief with Jacen and Tenel Ka. They made a daunting quartet, although Mara and Luke were glad that Jaina was able to enjoy the perks of teen friendship: being known and accepted for your real self.

"Don't feel like you have to live up to some major ideal or stand in your family's shadow." Mara advised. "Hero shoes are big ones to fill. You can certainly use them as examples to follow, but the times we're in now call for different choices. You don't have to live on the edge like your folks did."

Jaina smiled. "I'm really grateful for this hard-won peace. It didn't come easily or quickly, but it's worth fighting to keep."

Aw!! I love Jaina and Mara's master/apprentice bond, and wish that it had been explored more fully in Legends. Talk about a missed plot point! But, that's what we have wonderful stories like these for. [face_love]

Here, I enjoyed how you explored their similarities and differences. Both women prefer action, of course, but can adapt to whatever the situation requires of them. There's much Jaina can learn from her aunt, and in return, Jaina's ability to live a relatively peaceful and happy youth is a balm to Mara. Her advice was spot on and poignant.

But it was the last line that really hit me the hardest - with their peace being worth fighting to keep! There are dark days ahead, but it's that sense of love and family and duty that will see them through. [face_love]
