Probably one of the most hilarious posts I've seen in a long time. Bravo!

Directors??? I would entertain an argument for writers, but directors is nonsense. They each have a few episodes of TV to their credit and none of those episodes are as well directed as RJ's TV credits, let alone his movie credits.

The few episodes they’ve directed are quite good, actually. That said, I meant to say better writers and good directors. They haven’t directed enough for me to make that kind of judgment. Especially as I think Brick and Looper are really well-directed.

Stanley Kubrick hasn't directed a movie since 1999, I think it'd be a fine return to form for him to visit a galaxy far far away.

Zombie Kubrick - okay, I'm on board.

Someone prepare the dark magic supplies, I'm resurrecting John Ford & Akira Kurosawa.

I wouldn't put the Russo Brothers near an Star Wars film. They make decent products for a factory-like company like Marvel Studios, but they lack vision and style. Visually their movies are very average.

My pick would be Christopher McQuarrie.

Much prefer the way McQuarrie films action than the Bourne-lite Russos visual-crapola, but to be fair to them they've reigned that in somewhat since the more-egregious Civil War stuff.

And they are good directors, "factory company" is way harsh hyperbole. I just a) wouldn't be comfortable with them unless Marcus & McFeely come along with them, the true praise-earners of the MCU for my money, and b) it'd have to be the right type of story, probably something more military or gangsters like R1 or Solo rather than the force-y stuff.

McQuarrie could be pretty amazing though. Seem to remember him pretty much proverbially rolling his eyes and raising the middle finger at the fanboys going after Rian though, so...

That guy gives off vibes that he's got zero patience for fan bull****, and think he pretty much said he wouldn't touch SW or a similar mega-franchise with a 10 foot pole because of it. Props to him.

I'm wondering if they'll consider Brad Bird again, since he was an early contender for TFA but was too busy with Tomorrowland.

There Movies have everything the New SW Movies lack.
Story and spectacle.... Pushing the boundaries like SW once did.

Tomorrowland was balls, but man I loves me some Brad Bird.

He or Johnston are still my #1 for "oldschool Lucasfilm vibes workhorse directors", moreso than Howard, and I love what Howard did on Solo. They need to start hiring more in that vein, the old tried-and-true of the Lucas school of thought. Abrams is kinda that, but more next-gen, and Rian but with an artier flair (not more than George, but more than Bird etc), but in general I'd go that way if the Thrones guys and Rian aren't planning on actually directing these.

    Preach.

Kathleen isn’t interested in mediocrity, though, so I don’t think we’ll get the Russos.

It's a shame Uwe Boll quit the filmmaking business to become a restauranteur.

He’s not a boxer, he just sometimes boxes other filmmakers to prove who’s the better director.

Don’t think about it too hard, it makes sense.
