Artistic license should always be taken into consideration when it comes to ships in comics. It's a rule I've followed religiously for over 25 years. ;)

I really like the design of the Nebula Class Star Destroyer. It has the triangle profile of the Empire/Republic, but the curves of a Rebel ship.

Those of us who grew up with Carmine Infantino's ship drawings had to adjust our expectations pretty early on. Although I have had a few good chuckles over some well-intentioned attempts to codify the "classes" of ISDs he invented when they're clearly just the same ship being drawn incorrectly in different ways. Otherwise you'd have to argue that the Falcon was frequently radically reconfigured between panels somehow and was certainly not a YT-1300 most of the time anyway for a fair few years!

That's all fun and games until people ask you to do a 3D model of a beloved ship that appears in the comics that is completely different from frame to frame...

True. The four rebel ships done by EC Henry certainly aren't what you expected. Particularly when Mel's Miniatures tried to get two of them. Something makes me wonder what EC Henry's sources are to get access to the actual existing models.

That philosophy could have done us some favors with Dark Empire...

The Onager-class design seems to have some problems, such as the fact that it's hull is split in two, meaning that transportation through the ship is hindered. I do prefer it to the Mandator IV-class however.

You just put your space helmet on and jump out the window to cross the gap... and hope no one does a random test fire

That's until the captain organizes someone's birthday in the bomb bay...
"Hey, I'm Qin Lee. I work up in the left side."
"Oh, hi. I work in the right side. That's probably why we never met before. Big cannon in the middle, you know?"
    "Yep."

Good eye and thanks for the screenshots - and yeah that is an interesting X-Wing variant, blockier than usual.

Anyone else catch some of the other new ships in the trailer, namely the claw shaped ones and some round ones chasing the heroes?

It might be nothing, but that X-Wing seems to have the same paintjob as the Starwhawk. I suppose it might theoretically make sense for the New Republic to upgrade its T-65 fleet before replacing them with the newer T-70s and T-85s. I'm wondering what kind of weaponry is mounted on the lower wings.

those x wings and the ships behind are decked in new republic colors, cool. anyone know what those ships are behind them? also, only the top two s-foils have laser cannons... maybe these might be a new model.

Four proton bombs and 8 proton rocket launchers? The cockpit canopy and engines look armoured to me. Is it how the light is hitting it or is the canopy frame asymmetric, a bit like a Hind-D helicopter's?
Anyway my guess is a close air support version of the T-65.

I thought maybe Kaz ran into some remnants of the New Republic fleet?

Good catch! Those various X-wings and bulbous transports may in fact be New Republic ships. Perhaps ones that are linking up/joining the Resistance? The Home Fleet is gone, but the roving NRDF task forces are still out there...

Probably doesn't mean anything to members of the NRDF whose buddies were killed at Hosnian Prime. And high command in the Navy always supported the resistance.

Ok so Star Wars Explained had mentioned that the color scheme made him think these ships belonged to the Guavians, well I had the same inkling and honestly I think they are the ones from TFA.

So more old X-wings and transports for the Resistance... I thought the NR remnants would contribute something a little more impressive.

We don't know if they're old or if those are actually transports.
