Amph The Boys and Gen V

Finished the season last night. It's nice to see superheros but the idea turned on its head. Seeing what they are capable of is truly terrifying, especially Homelander. The Boys has to be one of the most brutal shows I've ever watched. Antony Starr and Karl Urban were the standouts for me. I'm really interested to see what happens next with that ending.

The impression I got, based upon the Few scenes with Becca is that she wasn’t raped, and Homelander was truthful about that.

Come to think of it, he’s a horrible, ruthless psycho, but did he ever lie?

 

Did anyone else notice the fly that was buzzing around, usually Hughie, in a few different scenes across the season? The first time I saw it I thought it just something that got past the editing but then it showed up a few more times and I was sure it would end up being significant of something but it never came up.

 

In the comics there is a bug theme for a character who speaks only in buzzing noises named Swatto. The show has yet to explain it.

 

What's great about The Boys besides the writing and casting is a legitimate potential multi-season story arc with a destination, unlike, say, Game of Thrones, which was launched without understanding exactly where it would be going and why. The gold standard I guess would be something as good as Breaking Bad but more meticulously planned, without Breaking Bad's Rube Goldberg final episode.

 

Interesting you should bring up Breaking Bad. One of the writers for the show also worked on BB.

 

I just watched the first episode. Not bad. I loved Karl Urban, as usual. I'll keep watching just to see him take all these ******** down.

 

Well I just binge watched the entire season today. Super fun. Super violent. Great soundtrack. A nice take on the superhero genre. Billy and his crew were awesome. I’m excited to see where it heads next. There’s a lot more that can be explored in the next season, and anymore after that. 8/10.

Homelander is excellent but (with 2 episodes left) I'm really enjoying it.

 

No, not enjoying it. It's not doing half of what it could. "superheroes are bad and also *******s" was tired by 1990. I gave it a chance because it looked like it might do something wrt Vought and corporations, but its commentary on that is mild at best--and the message is undercut even more when you discover

It is executed fine. It's just not doing enough for me.

They had me on the soundtrack in Ep 1. Interweaving individual lines of Daniel Pemberton's Take You Down (which I believe is from The Man From U.N.C.L.E. soundtrack) into the sequence where Hughie plants the bug in 7 Tower was very reminiscent of Morricone's work in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. It helps that that song is very similar to the movie's main theme with it's Native American tones.

 

Finished it last night.

Really enjoyed it, can't wait for season two

 

Two episodes to go and Im really liking it.
