Yep, I'm printing a test right now

If anyone here knows a competent 3D modeller please let me know! I'm looking for someone to make accessories for Clone Troopers, like blasters, backpacks, visors, etc. As well as other stuff like swords, armor, etc. Maybe we can work something out.

This is brilliant.

If it was a few years ago, I would have put my hand up to help with the modelling but I've been out of practice for a few years. With the release of Blender 2.8, I'm getting back into it all over again.

How are you finding the process of having your models go from polygons to physical?

 

I've also been out of practice for like 6 or 7 years, the last time I did it was making low poly models for the Torchlight 2 game, and now I started again with these things. I'm using 3DSmax, you can get it free if you're a student.

Once the muscle memory came back it hasn't been that hard. I still make the models low-poly, only now I apply "Turbosmooth" to select areas so they're smooth enough to print...smoothly haha.

Then I resize them, print, and make tweaks if I have to. For example, I just noticed the holsters need a "line" above the inverted triangle. Does the arc trooper ammo box look like the right size? I didn't want it to be so bulky.

Next I'll make the rangefinder, and maybe pauldrons though I like making those out of styrene.

Probably missing something, but Doom looks cool. (Yes, those are grass stains on the gray, not messy fingerprints)

Thanks bub (bubette?), the only reason I dont make male topless figures is because anything other than a tubetop becomes difficult to make removable and keep articulation haha

 

I found a crappy Asajj Ventress model and reworked it until it made a nice print.

 

Oh yeah, I can print macrobinoculars now, modified the helmet to accept them via pegs so they can flip up.

 

Awesome job with that 3D printing!

 

Finally can print these damn backpacks instead of making them from scratch everytime. I'll have to find a way to make the cloth section removable.
