It's certainly taller than the main hull of an MC75, but It doubt it is quite as massive. If I'm right about ~315m height, I guess anywhere from 400-800m long. Since we have no other view besides the direct bow view, its anyone's guess.

All the new starfighters in the ST have been so disappointing. That's supposed to be new? It just looks like a regular OT Y-wing.

The combination of nostalgia-baiting combined with a possible unwillingness to give royalties to Lucas, thus leaving us with 25% difference with regards to OT designs? This goes for the Star Destroyer as well.

I'm glad that although the designs are similar, the in-universe faults with the A-Wings and Y-Wings were addressed. They are in fact better ships than their predecessors. Let's hope the T-85 has very detailed spec list like the y-wing in the upcoming Rebel starfighters manual.

I've feel the same way...should have tapped the old EU for other designs like the E-Wing...not just rehashed X, Y, A and B for nostalgia.

It makes sense the NR would just order new models of the fighters that performed well, i.e the A, B, X-wings. I feel those should have been supplemented by things like the E and K-wings though.

That new Y-Wing looks exactly the same as the old one, just recolored. Just another uninspired design to add to the pile.

I give Disney a lot of slack. I'm old enough to remember all the fans who b****ed and complained about how the Prequel designs were too "shiny" or "inferior" to the OT designs. Some folks wanted to see the predecessors to the OT designs and didn't like the direction Lucas went in the PT. Now, we have fans who complain that the ST designs are just upgrades or carbon copies of the OT.

In short, there is no way to make everyone happy. [face_laugh][face_dunno]

Personally, I think that the ST has mostly hit it out of the park. Consider that in the 1980's the US used Nimitz-class supercarriers, M1 Abrams, F-15's, and B-52's. Now, nearly 40 years later, the US is using upgraded versions of those EXACT SAME DESIGNS. There is a real world precedent. The T-65 is like a first gen F-15 and the T-70 is like the F-15 Strike Eagle. The USS Nimitz looks different from her sister USS George HW Bush and the latter has newer tech. The old M1 is less effective than the M1A2.

The New Republic using MC85's, Neb-C's, Bunkerbusters, and next-gen version of the X, Y, A, and B-wing makes perfect sense. Period.

Am I the only one that had this thought occur...
The Y-Wings of OT were reconned by The Clone Wars to be stripped down skeleton remainders of previously complete fuselages. Because of that action of recon, you are supposed to visually imagine that any Y-Wing appearing in SW77 at one time had a complete fuselage. And now it doesn't. It has it where it counts, and Clone Wars era fuselage doesn't critically impact its performance.
Am I wrong on that detail?
What Disney is doing by "updating" the skeleton is borking that retcon dynamic. Ignoring it. Or not getting it.
Can anyone shed light on what I'm missing?

Part of me wants to see the E-wing...but the other part would just be reminded of the reboot and get pissed at seeing bits and pieces of the old EU in the new continuity.

Looking to the real world...fighters from 30 years ago were not just continually upgraded...new, more advanced fighters were designed and built. Tomcats begat Hornets which begat Lightning IIs

Also I headcanon it due to being down to the Resistance using a lot of old equipment, and that the New Republic fleet did have E-Wings and K-Wings alongside the T-85s.

Actually that is in many cases true. There are countries using upgraded and modernised fighters that were designed over 50 years ago. The F-5 Tiger II and Mig-21 for example. F-16s will be around for many, many decades to come. Also had the F-14 Super Tomcat 21 gone ahead, it would have been today superior to the Super Hornet.

Remember, yall, a E-Wing was visible in the Poe Dameron comic. It's...out there. And it showed up in some Solo concept art.

Do you happen to have the E-wing art from Solo?

Well the E-wing of the New Republic was officially the E7 model of the E-wing escort starfighter type. Perhaps there were an E1 to E6 model and the New Republic expanded upon it :)

Actually, the script said they were older fighters that were stripped down. Iirc, it was apparently Lucas's plan in the first film that the Y-wings were old and the X-wings were new. And of course, he would have tasked concept artists with making new designs for the Sequel Trilogy and not just rehash all four Rebel fighters. That was one of his complaints about TFA.

The Rebel Starfighters Owners' Workshop Manual (the Haynes Manual) was delivered today in the UK. A few nice touches I've spotted:

Recanonised from Empire At War - Raymus Antilles' role in liberating Income engineers from an Imperial convoy en route to Kessel, who disclose the location of X-Wing prototypes and a potential manufacturer.

    Y-Wings
BTL-B, BTL-A4 and BTL-S3 all constructed at the same time. The ships the Alliance uses looked identical to the BTL-B during the Clone Wars, but were stripped down.
Most BTL-Bs were scrapped by the Empire.
BTL-A4s were the easiest for the rebels to acquire.
Armour plating was removed for reliability and repair purposes - it was then repurposed for use as armour on other vehicles, including the T-47 airspeeder.
BTL-S3s were used by the rebels for courier services... Star Wars Holiday Special anyone?
There's a nice diagram showing a BTL-A4 with its Clone Wars-era armour still in place, and a cut away showing the rebel modifications beneath.
Rebels removed the BTL-A4s bubble turret and installed the automated ion cannon.
BTL-S3s mainly had back-to-back seats, but a variant had two forward-facing seats.
Gray Squadron's Lieutenant Telsij, named by the CCG, finally gets a first name - Gureni. He's still a Lieutenant in Grey Squadron at Endor. And he's flying a BTL-A4, so no gunner, unlike Legends.

    A-Wings
RZ-1s were modified from Tammuz-an R-22 Spearheads, as in Legends.
R-22s were without hyperdrives - rebel engineers added them as part of the refit into RZ-1s.
Arvel Crynyd (Green Leader) was a former Z-95 Headhunter pilot for a Thyferran batch cartel before joining the rebellion.

    B-Wings
General Rieekan and Admiral Ackbar oversee a test flight of the first production B-Wing.
On Shantipole, Quarrie incorporates aspects of the T-6 shuttle, V-19, and H-60 Tempest bomber, into his B6 Blade Wing prototype.
H-60 Tempest Bomber recanonised as being developed for the Republic but never picked up - most ended going for scrap.
As seen in the previews, new name for a cut character from Return of the Jedi - Mon Calamari B-Wing pilot, Ika Sulko.

    X-Wings
Same story as before - Incom put the design to the Empire but it cost significantly more than TIE Fighters, so was turned down.

I'm wondering if any of the ships in TROS trailer will be retconned to be the "Corellian Assault Frigate" we see the New Republic using post-Endor. One, the Redeemer appeared in the Aftermath trilogy. Maybe one could be an "Alderaanian frigate" like the Sunspire too. Sadly, nothing in that shot looks like you could retcon it to be a "Sullustan ring-ship", which I can't help but imagine being similar to Vulcan ring ships as seen in Star Trek. [face_dunno]

Kind of funny to think about how the deleted scene from the movie that shows this moment has Han in a heavy Tie. Makes me wonder why the artist went with an E-Wing here.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

So they were planning on putting in the E-wing as a Rebellion-era starfighter rather than New Republic-era? Interesting.
