Yah, I voted for ROTS, but actually I think TPM has been imprinted on my brain most.

I recently purchased the soundtrack from TFA and I am continuously moved by the track 'The Starkiller'. This track is evocative in its intensity and rivals Barber's Adagio for its ability to elicit empathy - even decontextualized from the film. I truly wish Williams developed the theme from 0:30 - 0:40 even further throughout the piece, however, it is still truly stunning in my view and one of the most beautiful pieces from the entire saga.

I really do love the Starkiller as well! It reminds me of Anakin's Betrayal from the ROTS soundtrack.

I am currently in the middle of watching my way thru all the SW films in prep for TROS. I just finished AOTC-it having been over half a year since I'd seen it, which is a record for me-and I was reminded just how incredibly moving and beautiful that film's score is! I'm now reminded how much I love Across the Stars, and how that film's score captures all that is great about JW's contribution to the GFFA.

Yes. It's up there with the Imperial March, Duel of the Fates, and even the Throne Room Finale (my favorite) IMO.

I'm glad to hear people say that. I think Across the Stars might be in my top 5 Star Wars themes of all time... I'd have to sketch that out, but for sure ATS is up there for me. I've been fortunate enough to see it performed live a few times by the Oregon Symphony. Incredible experience each time!

Another vote for AOTC here! It was close, TPM being a worthy adversary, mostly because of Duel Of The Fates of course.
Across The Stars is a majectic composition.

While every movie definitely has it's individual standout scores, I do feel that Revenge of the Sith has the best overall body of work. It's easy for me to revist certain tracks and end up just letting the whole thing play out. If I ever made a list of my favorite star wars scores, a good chunk of ROTS would likely find it's way high up on there.

Agree. If I had to pick a single track from the whole saga it would be ATS. I didn't vote for AOTC as a whole because I think the ESB score has slightly more variety and new themes. But my favorites from that one would be "Yoda's Theme" and the love theme rather than "Imperial March". I like IM, but in recent years I find it slightly overrated on this forum. It's a nice piece of music, as are many others, but to me "Across the Stars" is #1, especially in the finale where it fades in from IM.

I would say the Imperial March is more overplayed than overrated. I got chills down my spine hearing that for the first time in the theater.

Overplayed is a good way to say it. I do think it's also overused in the TESB score, myself.

TESB is my instant go-to Star Wars soundtrack. After that, the original 1977 score and Revenge of the Sith. All the other soundtracks have great music too, though.

I've had the TLJ blu ray since the spring and never realized there was a score-only version until I saw it on D+ today. I really wished there was a way they could do that for all the movies now.

For some reason, they removed the score only option from D+. Good thing I have it on Moviesanywhere!

I rewatched ESB recently and it really hit me how often it appears there; it definitely is a bit too much.

I mean, to be fair, if I wrote the Imperial March, I would definitely use it at every single vaguely appropriate opportunity so I can't blame JW too much.

Anyway, my answer to the original question is:

    1) ESB
    2) ANH
    3) ROTS
    4) TFA

And beyond that, I'm not sure I have a clear ranking. Across the Stars is my favourite piece of prequels music, but I'm not sure the rest of the score lives up to it.

Pretty good considering the last two films got score nominations.
Though the films themselves were more critically acclaimed (always a factor in Best Score nominations)

The score for A New Hope really nails the main theme and credits music best in the whole saga. That's my favorite rendition of those themes. But overall I would pick ROTS.
