Discussion Does Ben Solo Deserve his own movie?

I may be alone in this camp, but the one thing that TROS made me sad about is that we did not get more of Ben Solo. I found myself wanting more of that guy then Kylo Ren. I would love to see Driver and Hamil in a stand-alone movie that may be off searching for Sith artifacts or whatever. But I think that could be a fun movie. If they did a Ben Solo stand-alone what would you want that movie to be about?

 

I would want to see details about Luke's Jedi Academy and how Ben Solo was lured to the Dark Side of the Force.

Luke and Ben go after some Sith artifact, and after Ben Solo being in contact with this artifact, Snoke/Palpatine is able to establish a connection and start messing with his mind.

Or maybe even Luke and Ben going in a mission to find Jedi killers like Ochi of Bestoon (like Luke was doing with Lando). Maybe Ben took part in these missions as well.

 

I love Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, he's my favorite character in the ST, but I don't think he needs his own standalone film. I'd rather Lucasfilm venture outside the Skywalker saga canon for the foreseeable future.

 

He's a complex, interesting character, and well-acted, but his story has been told. I'm sure there will be lots of comics and books to fill in the gaps, no need for a movie.

Whether we like it or not, JJ Abrams has left room for their to be a Prequel to Episode 7. We might see Luuke leading a Jedi Academy and Kylo Ren's fall. Come to think of it -- (*slow inhale) -- I would welcome a Prequel film to Episode 7. However....it needs to be an ensemble piece with the same actors. Ben Solo would only be one actor among the ensemble. That would not be a "Ben Solo/Kylo" film but instead a prequel to the Sequel Trilogy using the same actors (no more Carrie Fisher ghost footage please).

5th Edit: We could see more of the Knights of Ren on film. Their potential was unfulfilled in the Sequel Trilogy films....

I don't disagree with you. It is just one of the things I wish the ST had given us more of. I always assumed I'd hate Ben as much as I hate Kylo like I did with Anakin and Vader. But it is very different with Ben. I very much want to see him get sarcastic with Luke and Luke put him in his place.

 

All we know about Ben is that he loved Calligraphy

Yeah, I'll go with "Good character, but that's enough".

I really, really want something fresh.

 

Not a movie, but maybe a miniseries. I'd like to see Luke training a young Ben Solo, with a young Adam Driver lookalike playing Ben, and Sebastian Stan playing Luke.

I really like the character but also voted No.

The only place left for relevant storytelling to the ST is the one-year gap between TLJ and TROS.

And if LFL ever focuses on that interval, it should be an animated series that follows Rey's training co-starring Leia, BB8, Chewie and co....and new Resistance characters. Ben-Kylo would be the side villain as Supreme Leader, but he'd mostly be in the background.

It would be the TCW for the ST.

But I don't think that'll happen either. I think the franchise will turn away from the Skywalker saga and toward new chapters.

 

I would like to see Ben Solo in an animated series set during the New Republic era. But he shouldn’t get his own film.

Well I am very anti them being together. When I started this I was thinking of a pre-st stand-alone movie. Totally okay with him being dead and staying dead.
