JCC Arena 2020 Summer Olympics - Tokyo Japan

Anyway, Russia is banned from the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Russia banned for four years to include 2020 Olympics and 2022 World Cup

 

Good.

 

Very glad Russia as a country is banned, and that their clean athletes can still compete as Olympic Athletes.

Mostly I am stoked to see Simone Biles continue her domination. I would love to see Sam Makulak actually get an Olympic medal, but he always seems to choke when he's close to getting one I saw the US national gymnastics championships here in KC this year and it was AMAZING seeing these people in person.

Nevermind the sports; I'm just excited to see what Japan does for an opening ceremony.

 

I mean, their little bit in Rio's closing ceremony was awesomely Japanese. So yes.

 

IOC bans of Political protests of any kinds at Tokyo games.

 

Unless they strip medals, how do you enforce that? And stripping medals for a (assuming) respectful political protest/talk is beyond redonkulous.

 

Maybe not stripped, but athletes have been punished for political protests before.

 

I'd be more concerned about security than I would be over political protests. Korea is on a virtual map only a stone's throw away from Japan, and Lord knows they've made threats in the past.

So Canada and Australia have withdrawn. How long before they're cancelled?

 

Apparently, a big part of the delay in announcing a postponement had to do with the legal contracts and large sums of money. If Japan canceled or postponed, they would owe billions of dollars to IOC for breaking contract. Or, if IOC canceled or postponed, they would owe billions to Japan. They had to reach a "mutual agreement" so that neither side was out a ****load of money as a result.

At the rate we're going they'll still be eligible for the 2020 olympics.

So therefore I expect the cancellation to occur in the next couple of weeks...

 

Agree @dp4m I really don't see how they can have them in six months. I feel horrible because Tokyo would been a great place to have it and they have spent billions setting up for it but it looks to be a no go.

 

I disagree. I think it's very possible. In the UK for instance now more people have been vaccinated than have had the virus.

I think we in the US are biased because of how bad our rollout has been. But hopefully with an admin that cares in it will get better and by July an Olympics will be fine to go.
