It's now 2 days before they're announced. Who wants to guess who and what'll get nominated for cinematography, the acting categories, the screenplay categories, Best Director, and Best Picture?

^watch it. It's like no other movie.

Best movie (not sure whether they have all been released in time to participate)

    Little women
    1917
    Once upon...
    The Irishman
    Marriage story

    Best actor

    Joaquin Phoenix
    Adam Driver
    De Niro
    Di Caprio

    Best actress

Same as Golden Globes but with another winner

    Supporting actor

    Al Pacino

    Supporting actress
    I don't know

    Best screenplay
    Once upon...
    Marriage story
    The Irishman
    Knives Out

    Best animation
    J'ai perdu mon corp

This year I haven't watched enough movies to speculate on the more technical aspects (editing, cinematography etc)

Also, I haven't watched 1917, but it will probably win a lot of stuff here and there, if it is as good as people say.

Unfortunately, Parasite isn't out in Ireland until February so I have to wait until then to see it.

All of your best movie picks have been nominated for Golden Globes and/or BAFTAs so it's safe to assume they can be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.

I don't think it's likely that De Niro will get nominated for Best Actor. The BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Screen Actors Guild all passed on nominating him.

I really hope Joker will get a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

I haven't seen I Lost My Body but I don't know how likely it is to win Best Animated Feature Film. That award usually goes to a mainstream Hollywood flick.

I am seeing 1917 today. I think it has a good chance at Best Picture.

Yes, the people of the Academy Awards have a strong bias in favor of historical drama, so it's absolutely possible.

I don't really know what else was released this year, but I lost my body is quite brilliant and it's the classical thing that usually gets prizes.

    Cinematograhy

    Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC
    1917
    Universal

    Phedon Papamichael, ASC, GSC
    Ford v Ferrari
    20th Century Fox

    Rodrigo Prieto, ASC, AMC
    The Irishman
    Netflix

    Robert Richardson, ASC
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
    Sony Pictures

    Lawrence Sher, ASC
    Joker
    Warner Bros

    (basically the ASC list)

    Best Picture

I think they'll narrow down the PGA awards some. Best guess of a list is...

    1917
    The Irishman
    Knives Out
    Little Women
    Marriage Story
Once Upon A Time In... Hollywood
    Parasite

I think it's possible Joker will make it into Knives Out or Little Women's spot (or simply be an addition).

The fact that De Niro's performance in The Irishman will likely get passed over is utterly absurd. It's easily his best work in decades.

I'm looking forward to seeing that.

Toy Story 4, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, and Frozen II.

I never even bothered to watch that movie.

They really don't even need to nominate anyone other than Deakins for cinematography. That's about as guaranteed (and deserved) of a win there is. I hope 1917 cleans up, it's phenomenal.

I'm curious about this one-shot stylistic choice, for a war movie. In Birdman it worked wonderfully, but it was another genre. I definitely need to see it.

Happy that Parasite got that production design nom.
