In honor of Valentine's Day, I thought it would be fun to have a thread to talk about our favorite Star Wars couples or Star Wars Couples we wish had been. You can feel free to include pairings or wished for pairings from the old EU or new canon as well as examples from the movies and TV shows if you'd like.

To answer for myself, my favorite Star Wars movie pairing is Han/Leia because I love their witty banter and how Leia's sharp-tongued idealism contrasts with Han's sort of sarcastic cynicism. The strong woman with the royal bearing and the scoundrel with the hidden heart of gold fit well together for me. Two movie pairings that I wish had been were Jyn/Cassian (there was a delightful romantic tension between them throughout Rogue One) and Rey/Finn though I still hold out hope for them getting together in a future novel or something.

My favorite pairing from the new canon has been Thane/Ciena from Claudia Gray's Lost Stars since I love the dynamic between them with their long friendship, similar interests, but ultimately very different political perspectives and decisions. There is something sort of tragic and complex about their love that I really appreciate.

From the old EU, some of my favorite pairings were Obi-Wan/Siri and Qui-Gon/Tahl from the Jedi Apprentice books as well as Ben/Vestara from the Fate of the Jedi books.

I'm interested to hear about some of your favorites and Happy Valentine's Day!

My favourite pairing is also Obi-Wan/Siri. The reason I'm able to accept Obi-Wan paired with someone, and at the same time why this is my favourite pairing, is perhaps antithetical to the title, but it's precisely because they learnt to let go of each other - to love without attachment - and stick to the Jedi path, and something far greater came out of that. No other pairing that has been tried by writers ever understood this. (I think Qui-Gon and Tahl would have made the same choice as this pair eventually; they just didn't have enough time in the books to get to that stage.)

Yes, I think the Obi-Wan/Siri romance worked for me because it felt like how an Obi-Wan in love would act, ultimately deciding to give up his romance to focus on his duty to the Jedi Order, and it also rang true to me that Siri would have that same sense of Jedi commitment. So I think a sort of "greater love" to the Jedi Order and loving someone enough to let them go in a way is perfectly fine and consistent with the spirit of this thread. All kinds of love can be celebrated and appreciated on Valentine's Day and in this thread, I hope.

I also was really moved by how when Siri died, Obi-Wan was able to resist the desire for revenge and was more certain that being on the Jedi path had given him the tools he needed to cope with his grief, to find peace with losing her. That was pretty profound and beautiful stuff for me.

ETA: I haven't ever really thought about this, but you might be right that Qui-Gon/Tahl would have reached the same conclusion as Obi-Wan and Siri do if they had been given more time to work out the implications of their love together without Tahl's death. In a way, Qui-Gon too has to overcome his desire for revenge on the person who killed Tahl and accept losing Tahl, so it is a sort of similar journey to Obi-Wan's. Really the biggest difference is when Siri and Tahl died respectively.

    Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla

It always felt like a very natural romance and unlike some romantic pairings in the saga it also seemed healthy. Despite that, their love still had a sense of tragedy to it with Hera always busy with the rebellion and to eventually Kanan's death.

Han and Leia are a classic pairing like ham and cheese or peanut butter and jelly. I love 'em.

Thane and Cienna is definitely my favourite of the new Canon ( I took them as my #1 and #2 picks in last year 's starfighter draft and had them flying together every round [face_love]).

I also like Hera and Kanen's relationship, especially how it starts out in A New Dawn.

Legends' equivalent characters Kyle and Jan I wish there was a bit more of too.

    Other favourites in Legends:
    Zayne Carrick and Jarael.

And one that I always remember because it was so sad, Mak Lotor and Kass Tod of the Padawan Pack, who died holding each other during the Battle of Jabiim.

Thanks for more examples of some beautiful and sad love stories told in the old EU, @Blackhole E Snoke.

In Legends (comics and the first young Boba Fett book) Jango and Zam had a bit of a thing going.

I feel like Jango and Zam could have an amusing relationship. Two bounty hunters having a romance.

There was also some mention of it in the cut scenes in the Bounty Hunter game when Roz and Jango talked.

    @Blackhole E Snoke

Thanks for mentioning Zayne's and Jarael's romance as that's easily among my favorites from Legends. Similar to Kanan and Hera it seemed like one of the more natural and real relationships we got in this franchise.

Luke and Leia, before her character was made the same as Luke's missing sister. It's an alternate universe take now, but people took that possibility seriously before their relationship got externally defined in Return of the Jedi. (For those unclear on what I am talking about, Luke was always supposed to have a long lost sister, but this character was not going to be the same person as Leia until Lucas revised his storyline so as to reach a real ending in Episode Six)

From the OT -- Han and Leia because she is so strong and resilient, compassionate and courageous. Han is so one of a kind! [face_laugh] He puts on a no-care show but down deep he's pure gold. [face_shhh]

From the PT -- Qui-Gon/Tahl fascinate me to no end.

From Legends, Luke and Mara all the way backwards and forwards. :D :* I love them separately, so together, yumsy!

I like Jaina with particularly Jagged Fel but in fanfiction pairing her with Kyp also works.

In Legends, I think Kyp with Kirana Ti would have been interesting. She's Dathomirian so she could definitely get his dark-side slip-up. [face_thinking]

Kanan and Hera and Obi-Wan and Satine are my favourite two couples. I also like Chewie and Malla, and Iden and Del in BF2.

I also think that Mando and Cara Dune would be good together, so I'd like to see that in the future.

Even if I don't consider the Disney Trilogy valid Star Wars, Finn and Poe definitely have the most missed potential.

PT? Or did you mean a comic or EU book? Are those officially considered part of the prequel trilogy? After all Qui-Gon died in TPM.[face_dunno]
Couples? Personally they don't interest me much, unless their relationship is unusual, tragic or strange in some ways. I don't watch SW TV shows or spin-offs, so if I had to pick a relationship from SW it would have to be Anakin and Padmé. Han and Leia are too conventional for me, happy ending and all that, so not really that special and interesting. But the way Anakin's love ended is really tragic and unusual. Oh, and I find Valentine's Day and all the commercialism connected to it (almost as bad as Christmas) highly annoying.:D

I'd have liked to actually see Poe kiss Zorii, but the way she blows him off at the end was amusing and it was a fun inversion of fan expectations. I'd like to imagine they could still have a future together.
