We have Timothée Chalamet as young Paul Atreides. The son of Duke Leto Atreides and Lady Jessica he is the main character of the story. Discuss!

He's the perfect choice, really. Brooding yet charismatic, and Hollywood's golden child right now with plenty of critically acclaimed roles under his belt already.

Not sure if I'm allowed to mention the movies that rhyme with Bar Doors, but he would've made an outstanding Anakin if he was 15 years older.

Heck, even that picture makes me think of academy era Rylo Ben in Bar Doors. But hey, he gets to be in Dune, which is... ya know... better.

i agree with the Anakin bit!!

He did really well within the movies that he already acted out and now has a pretty big fanbase with the movies that he is in

There are definitely some similarities between the Paul in the first book and Anakin. Difference is, Paul already knows her from his visions, no need for cheesy lines about sand getting everywhere.

What I'm wondering is, who will play the Fremen among them that helps Paul? The actors in the old movie actually are a high standard to live up to.

well, Paul is the granddady of Anakin's character. A hero on a villain journey ("terrible purpose"). Which becomes really apparent in Dune Messiah. Then son redeems the father by taking the Golden Path that father was afraid to take (Children of Dune). There's no doubt that he was the inspiration to Lucas for many things in his 6 part Saga.

Thank you! While I wouldn't call all similarities stealing (there's influence, homage, etc), it's fascinating to see where they overlap.

It actually makes sense for this website to talk about a SW influence in a slow time in the world of SW news; appreciation of roots is always important in any of the arts. Artists such as Muddy Waters, Etta James, Al Green, etc. are in the Rock N Roll HOF even though they are not rock artists- because they had a tremendous influence on rock.

This website can now officially consider itself "cultured."

OT for one post but... my daughter is learning guitar and I was showing her an easy path to Bessie Smith's "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out".

Boy, speaking of roots and artistic influences. That songs has been covered by so many different people, in different genres, and that's true of all of those old blues classics; the backbone of American music.

I'm not sure I've seen this actor in anything before. It will be hard to beat Kale Maclachlan.
