Good on the ban but what to do about all the ones already in circulation? Have they banned the sale of ammo as well?

Oh, hey look, a country that decided it wasn't 'too soon' to take action on Gun Control.

Meanwhile, we have daily Call of Duty cosplayers forcing their way into government buildings during quarantine...

I like Michael Che said about these fools. What are they even protesting about? They can hang out in their basements and Walmart still, where else do they want to go? :)

The next step would be a buy back as it's not like they can go get them. Although, I guess it depends on registration. They could do a mandatory buyback and if you do not comply you could face fines or eventually jail.

Meh. So what? Much like this time around they'll sneak in from the US. The problem isn't the type of weapon, it's the place of origin.

Yep, this is why Chicago and the likes have issues. You may not be able to buy an AR-16 there but you only have to travel a moderate distance and lo, you can buy one.

I'll throw the gun nuts a bone here. Anyone who thinks they can depend on the police or the military to be on the people's side while the government oppresses the people, just look at how the police and the NG have responded to these riots.

It doesn't change my stance, though.

As a Canadian this was a proud day to tell people I was Canadian. A shame America will never be able to do it. But I at least have Canada making smart decisions

Good read here. America’s policing problem is not exclusively a gun problem by any stretch of the imagination, especially given that they’ll shoot Black people on the suspicion that there might be a gun and will leave white people who actually have a gun alone. But this is a good descriptor of how DC vs Heller contributed to the militarization.

America’s cop problem is also a gun problem

I don't see how DC vs Heller ties into militarization. Certainly the police pattern of being open to shooting anyone plays into that; if it was just fear of guns then one would presume that people armed with a knife would not be shot just as they generally aren't in other countries. Or, for that matter, there shouldn't be anyone killed by cops while naked and unarmed.

The way the police are armed and think about guns is clearly a problem, but it predates DC vs Heller, and the militirization is often pointed back at the drug war in the late 1990s: https://www.newsweek.com/how-americas-police-became-army-1033-program-264537 and https://www.aclu.org/report/war-comes-home-excessive-militarization-american-police. It's ironic that the one bit of militarization that hasn't occurred is that the military tends to have more requirements on when to fire than "I was afraid"

gunman dressed as a fedex deliveryperson has shot and killed the 20-year old son of new jersey federal judge esther salas, and critically wounded her husband.

someone posted this to judge salas' wikipedia page in the immediate aftermath:

He was fired, and is selling a book, but he was also only there for 3 years so it could be he was a supporter who got inside and became disillusioned.
