Morricone was a great talent. My personal favorite is his score for Cinema Paradiso. So tender, beautiful and touching.

It, and any of the Leone movies he scored, quite literally wouldn't not have been the same. Leone would have Morricone compose the score before he started active production, choose shot compositions to compliment it, and would play the music on set during shooting.

What a legend. This is a big loss. When I did a Spaghetti Western in film school, we listened to so many Morricone scores to get ours just right. RIP.

He was the best, bar none. My favorite composer, period.

I knew this day would come sooner rather than later, but it's still one of the harder blows I've taken in terms of celebrity deaths. I'm going to miss him.

I've been listening to this concert this morning, while I do other things. It's a brilliant showcase of his range and depth.

Kind of a shame he went so far into the Trump/Birther end of the pool towards the end.

It was pretty much inevitable. He was all-in on the Reagan era and then 9/11 broke what was left of anything worthwhile.

Still, we'll always have "Uneasy Rider." And not that BS updated version.

I'm not really familiar with Nick Cordero's work, but it was pretty harrowing watching his three-month struggle. I mean, anybody who thinks COVID isn't that bad and is usually only bad at all for older people needs to read up on what that guy went through. ******* brutal.

As to Ennio Morricone, I mean, yeah, what can I say at this point? One of the all time greats. It feels like the spaghetti western scores are the ones that are the most famous, mainly because they're so iconoclastic and strange. The first time you see one of those movies the music is just riveting. I mean, it was like nothing I had ever heard before at the time I first watched my first one of those movies.

End of the day, my favorite of his scores is probably The Mission though. Just devastatingly beautiful. Gabriel's Oboe is one of the all time greats.

What the **** won the Oscar that year? I don't remember. Let's see.

Round Midnight by Herbie Hancock. Um . . .

Charlie Daniels was still a good musician, even though I disagreed with him.

I never got any deeper into his music than The Devil Went Down to Georgia, but, yeah, politics aside, that song has not a single second that isn't perfect.

Okay, this seems hard, but I think the actual case against Round Midnight winning best original score can be won, that was clearly just coasting on its extremely well done performances of the greatest jazz standards ever composed! Previously composed, that is! Not an original note in it! Except for all the original notes during the improvisations. 60/40.

Look it was a good year for soundtracks...

One of my favorite episodes of Your Pretty Face is Going To Hell is...

    .

    :p

Best line of the episode, though, comes later, when one of the demons points out to Satan "... you lost to Charlie Daniels."

My favorite is probably L'estasi dell'oro, here performed by Susanna Rigacci.

So she is presumed dead like she was in your post about 17 hours ago?

we could say your latest post is DOA.
