Census Americans, who will you vote for in November 2020, for President?

I mean, those aren't the only two alternatives. How can you list the libertarian party candidate and completely forget the green party?

 

I really wish they would get their act together

I'd vote for the Elder Party before I'd vote for the ****ing libertarian party.

They're not serious about trying to win, or even getting the 5% of the vote necessary to qualify for Federal funding. None of the third parties are. Ross Perot was the last third party candidate who was in it to win, and it was more him alone than a party. Last third party that actually tried to win downballot (and won a good number of offices) were the Socialists close to the beginning of the 20th century, I think.

Yeah, I'll generally sign anything that allows more ballot access, and/or vote my preferred Dem candidates on the WFP line here in NYC to keep them above 5%.

 

Well the Green Party in RI decided they wouldn't allow the Green Party nominee on the ballot, and backed Biden instead.

There's the argument that Trump didn't win the 2016 election so much as Clinton lost the election. It's the same thing here. Trump always does everything in his power to sabotage himself (like South Park regularly parodied for a while until, I think, it started making them sad ). It's an easy win for opponents of Trump, but they somehow always manage to miss the landing.

Imo, they don't need to attack Trump so much as strengthen themselves. Biden is pretty much running on the message: "Well, hey, I'm not Trump, right?"

Obama didn't win his historical victory by attacking McCain, iirc. He won by trying to inspire Americans, and by emphasizing his presumed strengths.

These days, presidential politics are basically:
Trump: "I kinda' suck but whaddya gonna' do?"
Biden: "I also suck, but...maybe Trump sucks worse? Idk."

I was fairly depressed on Super Tuesday when it was the beginning of the end for Bernie's campaign. I'm voting for Biden come November, but I feel like it's going to be a repeat of 2016.

 

A literally "Who?" then.

Thankfully my Green Party supporting days are behind me. Not that Biden is at all a great choice, but better than the alternative.

He said he wasn't going to, then he said he was thinking about it, then he said he'd probably do it, then he decided not to do it.

 

I mean, Hawkins is genuinely a better person than Biden...don't know why you're celebrating that your Green days are behind you

Fair point. I think Jill Stein's anti-science woo ways turned me off to the party. Though the thing about Stein (and presumably Hawkins) is that neither would drone bomb civilians in the Middle East. Probably. Maybe.

 

I absolutely understand being turned off because of Jill Stein. In fact, I'm pretty sure I was the one here in 2016 saying stuff against her anti-science enabling! However I'd encourage you to at least read up on Hawkins a bit. I haven't myself decided to vote for him. But it's interesting to read about the green party turning from whatever it was under Stein into a cohesive eco-socialist platform under Hawkins.

 

It would be a much closer race if it weren't for COVID-19.

 

Current thoughts?

Mixed feelings. It’s historic to have a woman of color on the ticket. But I do not like her record on criminal justice when she was Attorney General, and she tried to have it both ways on the issue of healthcare in the primaries. She tends to go with the polls and say what she thinks certain people want to hear. But she’s not a disqualifying choice, and I might like her as a potential VP more than Biden as a potential President. But no way am I ever voting for Trump/Pence. It’s either Biden/Harris or write-in for me, since I live in Rhode Island and the Electoral College is the reality.

She doesn't disqualify the Biden ticket (if anything it will be Biden who does that if he hasn't already), but she doesn't strengthen it for me at all.

 

I figured she was the most likely VP pick, so it changes nothing for myself.

 

Still voting for Biden on November 3, but now I will be doing so even more reluctantly. Blagh.
