It's beyond silly that you cannot even associate Castro's name to anything positive.

 

To me, Bass' Scientology praise are more of a deal-breaker -- but if you have 3-4 qualified people, and one of whom has a negative stigma in a key swing state... drop one of the qualified candidates. I like all of Bass, Harris, Rice, and Duckworth (and Warren, but I think that ship has sailed) -- but I don't think Harris, Rice, or Duckworth (all of whom have issues) have a specific issue with a particular swing state.

 

He's doing fine. I chat with him occasionally. He's building Lego, plays vidya, oscillates between libleft and libright. I'm sure I'll make him a social democrat over time.

Yeah, but we've known for a week or so that Dodd doesn't like Harris, and we've known for decades that Dodd is a sexist moron -- unclear which side will win out.

The more general point I was making is that Castro shouldn't be THAT controversial, in principle. Of course it's totally fair to criticize him even strongly on some issues, I'm not saying he's sacred, but it's just ridiculous that even barely acknowledging some few indisputable successes under his lead could be damaging for someone's political career. The cold war has been over for a while, perhaps it's time to start having a bit of rational analysis on this topic.

 

I agree. We can still have a nuanced appraisal, even when talking about former dictators.
