The Lincoln Project has been effective only in making money for its founders. Its "operating expenses" exceed 80%.

The Trump administration is lightening some Obama-era environmental regulations aimed at reducing pollution due to wastewater from coal-fired power plants.

When we see the Republicans bragging about getting rid of regulations, what they actually mean is stuff like this.

By the EPA’s own estimates, discharges from steam-based power plants, many using coal, are the nation’s third-largest source of toxic wastewater, occurring near roughly 100 public drinking water intakes and more than 1,500 public wells across the nation. Coal plant wastewater can contain a slew of heavy metals, including mercury, selenium and arsenic, a neurotoxin that even at non-lethal levels can cause cancer and impair the brains of developing children.

It's a wee bit early still for smaller PACs to start dumping a lot of money on TV ad buys. Most wait until a couple of months before the election, so it's getting close. I do believe they've been running some on TV in certain markets. I remember someone with that group posting a nasty voicemail recording from a woman in Florida demanding they get their ads off of TV.

I don't believe this because my water filter uses coal to suck out the toxins so explain that

True, but their ads do hit the mark.

Lincoln Project's attacks on Trump begin from a position of American patriotism/nationalism. They start with the assumption that their audience is invested in that framework of aesthetics and values. The problem is that most of the millions of people who aren't decided yet (haven't decided whether they will vote or not), interpret Trump through the lens of celebrity and absurdism. That's why Qanon has been so successful in attracting people with "save the children", they de-politicize the political establishment by turning them into demons, and create a simple values framework that anybody can join.

Establishment politics has always had trouble "connecting the dots" with Trump because doing so requires a criticism of the environment they have created. You can't really encounter the horror of Trumpism without facing Hollywood, televangelism, Oprah, the self-help movement, and our cannibalistic consumer culture.

And those are very valid points @Glitterstimm ... Guess what I'm trying to say is I appreciate political ads that really try to go for the jugular - they would be like LP, but better, because they wouldn't be problematic in terms of what you point out.

Do they? Some, certainly. But things like Trump's DHS Chief of Staff talking about how horrible he was as a boss or leader don't require any particular frame of reference.

The Biden campaign is clearly on defense today. His appearance in Pennsylvania - deviating from the bunker strategy - was devoted entirely to fending off Trump's attack, that Joe is soft on crime. There is no stump speach here except to list off Trump's evils.

All of Biden's arguments for why things will be better when Trump leaves fall flat. He says healing and racial progress can resume once Trump is gone, as though Ferguson didn't burn under his watch. He arrogantly claims that he and Obama saved the nation's economy in 2009 while Trump has destroyed it, as though there were any difference in the two regime's economic policy (there isn't). He talks about Russian bounties and other conspiratorial nonsense.

There is no affirmative case for Biden. His only compelling argument is the simple question, "Does anybody believe there will be less violence if Trump is reelected?" But while this does focus right at the critical issue, it is only the beginning of an engagement. The natural right-wing rebuttal: "Is that a warning, or a threat?" Biden must complicate his message if he wants to get beyond the surface level pageantry (which Trump can handle just fine) and get people to imagine what kind of future he can deliver.

He dropped some great Biden-isms, "He's fueling heat, and stroking violence", but my favorite is at 14:07(timestamped) where he clears up his position on socialism.

Edit: and if you're curious why he chose make his unusually in-person appearance in Pennsylvania as opposed to any other battleground state, go to the 25:42 mark.

I guess this kind of works, because a visceral character assassination is always compelling, but it's still archaic bureaucrats talking about government agencies most people don't really understand. One of the questions I have about Lincoln Project is, why haven't they produced any long-form content, or have I missed it? People will sit down and watch a 1 hour Youtube video if it's good material. I think they might have better luck telling the story of Trump University, because people are interested in seeing scammers exposed, and the victims are real, relatable people, rather than abstract ideas like patriotism.

My impression has always been that their ads started out with an audience of one in mind (they even made sure to air them on the DC market when they knew Trump would be watching) but that in a broader sense they're also going after Joe Six-Pack.. or at least their idea of who Joe Six-Pack is.

Also in this day and age if you want to be effective you should be making political ads that are savage AF and totally lacking in subtlety and nuance, because that's what usually makes them go viral and gives you more bang for your ad dollars.
And long-form content wouldn't be a bad idea, it's true.

How in the world you guys make those quote boxes, I'll never figure out. It's a mystery akin to physics to me. I agree. I think Biden is not well. Beyond his policies, given how his and Trump's are out of sync with the majority of the country, Biden really should be at home in a chair eating healthy food. Neither should Trump. At any rate, my Dad said that he would have preferred Warren or Sanders as the nominee, and he says Biden is not very smart. Given how Dad is older than Biden and sharper, having designed things for our government like the F16 plane (I am not joking), I think Dad is something of an expert in the subject. You wouldn't think someone like that would be as left-leaning as he is, but that's how Dad rolls. He wants to wrest the government from Trump, and he felt there were quite a few better options than Biden.

Highlight a line of text and you'll see a "reply" option appear.
You might also find it useful to use the spoiler tags. You just do this: (spoiler) whatever you want to write (/spoiler) but using square rather than round brackets.

There are multiple ways to quote a post. Obviously hitting the “reply” button is the easiest way but it’s going to quote the whole post. If you just want to quote part of it you can highlight the part you want to quote and a “reply” button should pop up close to the highlighted text. And then you can also use the Quote feature located in the + drop down selector on the toolbar. Using that will give you a generic quote box without the arrow that allows you to go back to the actual post you’re quoting.

    Hope that helps! :)

I know. But when I click on reply, it takes the entire post as a quote. I don't know how to take specific quotes from previous posts. That's what I meant. I'll figure it out. I told my Eponym's elder sister that you guys remind me of her boyfriend and his guy friends who talk about cars and complex machines all day, and you almost have to have an education/mentality like that to understand this website's mechanics sometimes. Ha ha.

    Anyhow, I'm troubled by this.

So, Trump is going to continue to move his polices to the extreme right with time.

No, they don't. They run a spectrum. They rolled out one just yesterday about the administration leaning on states to re-open schools full tilt in the midst of the pandemic. That's not an appeal thru the lens of patriotism.

And some of their ads are clearly aimed a disaffected Republicans and R leaning independents. Making an appeal via patriotism isn't a bad starting point when going after some segments of those groups.

Do not click on "Reply" on the bottom right. Just highlight the sentence you want to quote, and you should see a little reply bottom magically appear. Try to do this with my post. Just highlight the word "post" and see what happens.

This is a test. This is only a test. Thanks for your help. :)

Yeah, I know. I try to avoid quoting. I like to talk directly to people and process their paragraphs. It's just easier when there's a human face and eyeballs to see while doing so. ;)
