Our neighborhood app warned us that a possibly deranged person was walking around with a steak knife.

The biggest event in my region is the annual 90 k ski race. At the halfway-mark the first person to reach it get a special prize and the name on a big memorial stone. They have recently ordered a new memorial stone, since the two previous ones were filling up with names, and now the people in the village with the halfway mark are upset that the new memorial stone is standing in a different direction to the other ones.

Recently there was a post on Nextdoor from a guy in a subdivision near where I live. He advised all of his neighbors that he was unhappy a couple of teenage girls occasionally rode horses through his sub. Also, there was a third kid on a skateboard, which he deemed “unsafe.”

Anyway, on the most recent time he went out to yell at these kids, one of the horses took a dump on the street in front of his house. So he did the normal, sane thing you do when an animal relieves itself in public. He called the sheriff. (I’m actually not convinced it wasn’t 911, but he did specifically say “sheriff.”)

The sheriff, unlike the horse, presumably didn’t give a ****, because the guy said if it happened again, he was going to call Animal Control. (Who are going to do what? Set out horse traps? Bait them with hay?)

The guy then complained bitterly about the unfairness of having to clean up horse crap, which really he didn’t even have to do, since it was on city property.

I’m not quite sure what kind of a reaction he was hoping to get by posting this story for the reading pleasure of a few hundred people, but most folks just seemed to lol @ him. The only thing that isn’t funny is that this is the kind of mind-your-damn-business behavior that sets up people—including kids—to get blown away by the cops.

So how about we not call the police over literal horse****?

    Thank everyone for understanding.

Tomorrow, Georges Gouttes, a 72 year-old cook of Toulouse, will be serving the largest cassoulet of the year, with 1,500 people attending - it's less than the record 2,500 people of last year, but COVID does require extra distancing. Preparation began yesterday.

Some people made a short film about vikings here. All the dialog is in Old Norse.

Today in Mill Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, people are in lockdown still.

It's a lovely spring Saturday morning (edit: huh, it's after 2pm. Where's the day gone?), so people are walking dogs while wearing masks. The sound of lawn mowers fills the air.

That's it. That's all the news in Mill Park.

Apparently some newsagents here have had some newspapers delivered late because a climate change activist group is blocking the roads outside their printing presses.
    Not much of a loss.

My towns general FB-group is now filled with one petition to stop the main candy/snack store in the centre from selling energy drinks to minors, and a cross-petition to support the right for the store to sell energy drinks to anyone.

While not exactly local news, this might only make sense to people in the UK. There is a conspiracy theory that the mysterious street artist Banksy is actually 90’s children’s TV show Art Attack presenter Neil Buchanan

This has gained so much traction that Neil put out a statement on his official website:

No, it's a pilot apparently, so they're hoping to make more.

    Amazing! Love it!
They're not very similar in terms of style though...

....I like Neil's art. I had never even considered what he might be doing nowadays.

It's been a very dry summer and the river is about two or three feet lower than usual. But it rained last week and it has risen a few inches.

There's been an ongoing debate in town regarding a possible amusement park based on the Moomins. People feel very strongly about it, as it would be built on a piece of land that today hosts a popular outdoor area where a lot of people like to spend their days off. Some people think it would be great for the economy though, and really want the park.

A few months back, someone built a Moomin troll and put it in a roundabout in town -- probably as a humorous comment on this ridiculous debate that has stirred up so many feelings for years now. This Moomin in the roundabout has been talked about in the local press and most people, regardless of stance in the amusement park debate, seem to think it's funny.

Well, this took a turn for the darker yesterday, as someone assassinated the poor Moomin. He was found floating in the river some kilometers downstream.

Poor Moomin, even if I'm one of those who can't understand what Moomin has to do with Karlstad.

Today the National Archive, which handles all uses of official coats of arms and stuff like that, has agree on that the main regional hockey team can use the regional coat of arms on their jerseys, in order to show that they represent the whole region. No word what the other elite hockey team in the region says about this.

Maybe they should find a middle ground compromise, something like setting up a trail of statues of Moomins that people can explore and take photographs with.

Boost tourism without compromising the green space.

The dumba$$es in our county ‘accidentally’ euthanized all of the geese at the local duck pond :_|:_| thinking we were within the 7 mile radius of the closest airport. We’re more than 10 miles out.:(
