Right now we have democrats all over the country trying to scrub the green party off the ballot so it seems to me that neither major party wants to play fair

They are referring to the Trump administration.
    Let's see the specifics.
    1) Trump has made several maneuver to obstruct the proper functioning of the post service. Biden is currently leading by few points nationally, but when you look at those who vote by mail, his lead becomes way larger, something like more than +20
    2) He has shown open hostility toward protesters. He tear gassed them just to take a picture, he has used an openly violent rhetoric, he has refused to condemn the illegal militant who shot two protesters few days ago.
    3) He has been using a dangerous rhetoric in his hostility toward the press. Virtually all the press.
    4) He has flirted with the idea of prolonging his administration for more than 2 years.

    EDIT :
This was just to make the case that Trump is authoritarian. However you might have seen the F-word being thrown around quite often. Is it justified? Is it just leftists who misuse it? Let's see it with an analytic approach. We've shown that he's authoritarian. If I can prove that he is also far-right and ultra-nationalistic, then the most common definition of the word will apply.
-- is he far-right ? Well, he is openly anti-socialist, and he gave major tax cuts to private corporations, so I think this is fairly a check. I'd say he would agree with me himself.
-- is he ultra-nationalistic? We need to be careful in differentiating between patriotic and nationalistic. Thank god Trump helps us with his main slogans, "MAGA", but also "America First". So, check again.

In summary, the F-word in this case applies very easily. It is not hyperbolic, it's just about calling things with their name.
And people are right in freaking out.

Right, so back to the thread topic of coping with the growing threat of American authoritarianism. What else can you do besides coping, voting, and volunteering ahead of elections?

Renounce US citizenship, find a less authoritarian place to live, move there and live a happy life.
    It's not a joke.

    ( @Bacon164 sorry, I really went off topic )

I believe that spending time with people we love is usually one of the best way to endure difficult times, including authoritarian regimes. It is very unfortunate that in this very moment we also have problems in freely hanging out with people.

No worries, @3sm1r, my unnecessarily pointed passive aggressive comment was not directed to you. And @Princess_Tina you may very well be right. Thank you @Alpha-Red for the resource, though I don't think I will ever be a good person to try and convince an undecided voter of anything, but I have signed up to distribute voting pamphlets and resources around my city.

I sincerely hope not, but remember - if you move abroad without renouncing your US citizenship you'll be subject to double taxation.

Plenty of Americans in a growing expat community here in Cairns.

Not sure we're not getting increasingly authoritarian as well, but as things currently stand, Aus remains near the top of most quality of life indexes, so it isn't all bad.

Not sure these indicators are worth a damn, but here they are anyway:

If we weren't in the middle of a pandemic with all the attendants travel bans, I'd have gladly looked up the administrative work to get to France... Right now, though, better a specialist lawyer.

Same. Travel bans suck for escapists. I understand they are necessary due to the pandemic, however.

That's why I suggested moving to Australia up the page. I'm completely serious.

Once the pandemic is over of course.

Australia are enjoying their own climatosceptic Tories in charge x)

If I were to pick an English-speaking country to move to, it would be NZ down under, or Canada in the Northern hemisphere. The UK is a big "no" with the COVID+Brexit double whammy. South Africa, I don't know enough about, but I'd look them up.

I've been to NZ and SA, and must confess I do really like SA, and was offered a job there at one point. But then, Africa in general does it for me.

Everyone I know, without exception, who has been in a position to compare Aus with Canada has preferred Aus, for different reasons. I like the idea of Canada too, and I dare say it would be a perfectly nice place but it does seem to depend where you live.

I wanted to like NZ more but it did my head in. No native birds in most places and eerily silent forests as a result. The ecology in most places is wrecked. Also, Australian prices but on less than half the wage. No thanks. The people are mostly quite nice though! All the horrible ones come to Aus it seems to me.

A climate-sceptic government that is very unpopular and likely will lose the next election. Morrison has been hopeless with the pandemic; the states have done all the donkey work and kept this pandemic under control. The Green Party is much bigger here than in the UK. As with the UK, don't judge a country by its government.

On the downside: massive carbon footprint would be near the top of course; but at least there is a burgeoning counter-culture here -and I say that as someone who lives in its most conservative state. I wasn't planning to leave because I hated the place, quite the contrary. I was planning to leave because I am/was irrationally homesick. That's not something I can quantifiably measure.

Those are my, somewhat facetious, takes anyway. :p

If by some miracle Brexit doesn't wreck the UK, I may still move back, but I have also considered Ireland. Adh mór go leir, I say...

Every goddamn day is another giant step towards an oppressive state.
Remember when Fox accused Obama of being a dictator, some time during his first term, because, they said, of all his Executive Orders? Good times.

A few days ago he said he will negotiate for a third term. Another who’s still wondering what they would have done during Hitler’s rise to power, stop wondering; you’re doing it now.

The current situation is bad enough there; a terrifying prospect awaits however, if Trump is reelected.

As things stand, I think the US can pull back from the brink. If Trump is reelected, then it's all downhill.
