Here is hoping it won’t be as bad as last year. Actually wasn’t that this year that everyone cared about the Australian wildfires for a few days?

Not really. This notion that physical media will just go away one day (soon) is...cute. It's marketing will change, probably; become more refined, exclusive, as a "collector's choice". But it's going to always be there in one capacity or another, for the same reason they're still selling LPs.

    ---EDIT---

I might agree, though, that console gaming on hard copies might become the most radically downsized.

Stick is just vastly more control over your vehicle, is all—safer and more precise driving.
    No big deal.

I know, the vast majority of Target novels, as well as the original Virgin and Eight and Past Doctor Adventure lines are out of print, which is a shame cause the latter lines are where all the most interesting books are :p

In affordable New-Who books, my recommendations are the Day of the Doctor novel (only after watching the episode first though), Touched by an Angel (11th Doctor), The Eyeless (10th Doctor), The Blood Cell (12th). There's so many books nowadays that it can be an absolute chore narrowing down which ones wll actually interest you though, I'd say use discretion when picking. It's a lot easier to sit through a duff tv show than a book that's not to your tastes :p

Though I can help out a little on a few older books too. The BBC posted a bunch of now out of print books as ebooks in 2003:

They can be downloaded as PDF, or Epub which works with e-readers like Kindle. But there are some minor formatting glitches if you convert to Epub, stuff like words occasionally running into each other or the odd letter shift. So, if any of those books in the list are of interest I'd say give it a try. Human Nature in particular, since it was adapted into a tv story, though that's one that is actually still in print thanks to a recent re-release :p

Now mind you that it won’t go away completely. At least for movies and shows. Just like Vinyl is still around. A vast vast vast majority will be digital though. That’s more my point. It’ll eventually settle around 3-5% nothing is ever truly gone. Just like how we will probably never truly get rid of Corona we will never truly get rid of Physical disks.

Most people in the world don’t give a rats ass about physical vs digital they’ll take the option that requires less work.

I just think it’s pretty useless to get sentimental over physical media. The only up side to physical media and most people don’t care is that you can resell it.

There will never be a resurgence of physical media. It will always be the marginal unless the world ends. Minus books. I just have a feeling books will stay the way they are.

Also on the topic of digital vs physical. It’s better for the environment. So it does have that going for it. It almost makes me wish paper books would die. Although I always have trouble reading digital books.
