Halloween is a day. Advertising for a day is not a season. It's not Valentine's season. It's not Fourth of July season.

Yes, because of the baseball playoffs (except in '94)!

So then Christmas is only a day as well.

Halloween is absolutely a season because the first haunts start opening the end of September, and the last haunts close in early November. That's not advertising, that's part of the celebrations.

Since we're only a couple of years away from Christmas season including Halloween season I think it wins by default.

The way this year is going, I think our celebration of death is likely to expand

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Democracy simply doesn't work.

Ah, but one could've said this 30 years ago, and it has not happened.

As such, I would argue ONLY Halloween could resist the scale and power of the Christmas season.

    Resist it...but not overcome it.

I love Halloween, but Christmas is incredible.

Halloween continues to get bigger and bigger...but so does Christmas...so the 2 super-holidays shall dominate the calendar for years to come.

And my absolute favorite holiday...Thanksgiving(US)...is perfectly fitted between the 2.

What? People actually like (American)Thanksgiving? The same bland menu every year? Too late to be a harvest festival? Stressed family and watching cold parades or football on TV? I don't get it.

I see it as a 4 day weekend that you get to see family and friends. The dinner is awesome, everyone is forced to watch the Dallas Cowboys, and drinking is a happening.

It can, but not with easily corruptible people running things!

I actually agree with the menu part. Turkey is, well, not that exciting. Yes, gravy is yummy and lots of the fixings are good but over the years I’ve grown tired of turkey. So, we do other food lots of times. Nice to have steak, seafood, etc instead. There’s no law I’m aware of that says you must eat turkey on thanksgiving!

As for Christmas versus Halloween? Christmas wins here, IMO. The classic songs, the "pretty" snow(at least it’s pretty until winter really hits, lol), gift giving, good food and family times. I also take the last two weeks of the year off every year and we usually do a Star Wars and/or a Lord of the Rings marathon which is always fun!

Not to sound like Scrooge but I've spent the past 23 years working jobs that have made me either
    A. Work late Xmas eve
    B. Work Xmas day
    C. Work super early on the 26th
    D. All of the above
I feel like the Christmas Spirit has been beaten out of me to the point I don't care anymore. Every holiday when a customer says "I'm sorry you have to work today" I really want to reply "well if you wouldn't drag your family here to shop on Xmas day I wouldn't have to be here!"

Anyone else find it infuriating that the one time of year all the music ect is telling people this is a wonderful time of year and we should all be jolly but IRL everyone acts like entitled bleep-holes especially to retail workers who are just trying to do their jobs?

Also my family is spread out so I can only spent a little time at each household before having to move on to the next and everyone gets mad me for not "spending enough time" with them. "Christmas is only once a year!"

I like Christmas songs, especially the old stuff from 40's-60's but not until it's actually December.

I have to point out I don't have kids so that's another reason why Christmas isn't too special for me. Although Halloween is one of the times I wish I did so I can take them Trick-or-Treating.

I like Halloween decor better, we keep some of it up year round.
