Just wondering, how would people do to make a Chapter appear knightly or Knight-like?

I have some ideas of my own behind the spoiler, with most of them needed to be combined to actually get a "knight" feeling. The numbers are there for if I ever want to make a table out of it.
    1. Very chivalric and noble.

    2. Are the feudal high-lords of their homeworld, with each company having an area as their protectorate.

    3. Allied to a Knight House.

    4. A Chapter that don’t put neophytes in their own company, instead they are seconded to Chapter veterans to act as their squires.

    5. A Chapter that works closely with one of the Orders Militant of the Adepta Sororitas.

    6. A Chapter that works closely with one of the Orders of the Adepta Sororitas. Pick one of the Orders or roll a D10: 1) Orders Militant; 2) Orders Hospitaller; 3) Orders Dialogus; 4) Orders Famulous; 5) Orders Sabine; 6) Orders Pronatus 7) Orders Madriga; 8) Orders Planxilium; 9) Orders Vespila; 10) Order Fenestrus.

    7. Are seen as high nobility on their homeworld and are treated as such by the population, and the Marines themselves live as high nobility when not waging war, with all that entails of duties, rights and luxuries. What means with duties, rights and luxuries may be a bit different for the Chapter’s homeworld compared to some other Imperial planets.

    8. As a group the Chapter’s Marines are refined in demeanour and lofty in ideal, educated not just in war, but in culture, philosophy, rhetoric and similar pursuits.

    9. The Chapter espouse chivalry and virtue, but their sense of honour is tainted with cruelty, and sometimes even sadism.

    10. Highly honourable, most of them would rather lose a war then win it using dishonourable means. What they consider honourable and dishonourable may be a bit different from others ideas of those concepts.

    11. Above the Codex standard numbers of Bike units.

    12. Protect a Adepta Sororitas shrine.

    13. Closely allied with a Adepta Sororitas convent.

    14. The Chapter is the caretakers of a Adepta Sororitas Saint’s remains.

    15. A Chapter that use Combat Shields and/or Boarding Shields as standard equipment.

    16. Has a strong duelling tradition, sometimes to settle a point of honour but more often to test themselves and their swordsmanship.

    17. The Chapter prefer close combat over ranged warfare. Face-to-face with his enemy a battle- brother seeks to earn glory and respect and be sure that his foe is truly vanquished, fighting with righteous fury and the noblest ideals of honour.

    18. Recruits do not take to the field as Scouts; instead they operate as Chapter staff and personal servants for the full Battle-Brothers.

    19. Each battle-brother’s armour is equipped with a tilting shield where the Marine’s personal heraldry is proudly shown.

    20. A Chapter that favour the sword as the epitome of a warrior’s arsenal and the incarnate focus of his honour.

    21. The Chapter is highly proud of its colours and would never paint them over no matter the need of stealth or duty (like the Deathwatch), maybe they are willing to cover them in cloth but never to overpaint. It’s likely that the Chapter also consider it dishonourable to their colours to keep them dirty for any longer amount of time.

    22. The Chapter’s Marines live for the honour of battle, and it is almost certain that the younger battle-brothers will abandon a standard tactical structure in favour of simply rushing headlong at the enemy.

    23. They have an overriding sense of duty and honour, and are driven ever onwards by a strong desire to right the many wrongs that have befallen the Imperium of Man since the Emperor walked the stars. It’s possible that their idea of duty, honour and/or what’s wrong with the Imperium is notably different from others.

    24. Highly honourable and believe that no slight to one’s honour can go unanswered. Often, as is the case with unintentional slights or insults, a simple apology or retraction is enough to satisfy the individual whose honour was impugned, but occasionally the insult is perceived as so grave or an accusation so unanswerable that the parties involved can only satisfy their honour through a duel.

    25. Each battle-brother is assigned one too three personal squire-serfs who has as main mission to assist the Marine when donning armour, maintaining weaponry, and doing his mundane non-battlefield duties. Possibly are they themselves trained to also assist in combat when needed.
The points involving Adepta Sororitas are there as a reference to knights fighting for fair maiden, getting help from nunneries, and such.

A thought regarding the Blood Angels successors.

We know that vampires are just one of the many inspirations for the Blood Angels (BA) and you could make a BA successor chapter with little to no focusing on the vampiric aspect but just as a discussion, what about trying to see what successors we can create by really focusing on the vampire part, or ratter what can we create if we base BA successor chapter on specific vampires:

    The Night Flyer
Symbol: a Cessna Skymaster in black silhouette from above, on red.
Colours: Black with red spot colours.
Concept: Lots of flyers; possibly fleet-based and nomadic; when out of armour they likely dress formal, with high collared cloaks. Likely do many of the officers (or at least the high ones) have capes, preferably with a high collar, that are “Red as a fire engine inside, black as a woodchuck's ******* outside”. Should they have monstrous appearances, like Renfield, and if so should they begin human but become more monstrous as they age? Also since Renfield is able to hide his monstrous appearance, if they are monstrous, should they be able to hide it somehow and if so how (hologram-tech, psychic powers, other)?

    Nosferatu
    Symbol: No idea. Any suggestions?
Colours: No idea. Maybe dark colours (black as the main colour)?
Concept: Should probably have an old and used appearance of most of their equipment; possibly use trained/cyber-linked/Librarian controlled rats/giant rats; lots of powers/lightning claws as a nod to Orlock’s long fingers. Beside their looks and the BA’s usually problems could they also be light sensitive (maybe all’re albinos?) as a reference to that Orlock was the first vampire that took damage from the sun; they could also suffer from a psychological fascination with beauty, or a spiritual one with innocence? No Sanguinary Guard, or at least non that looked like the standard. Names should be German and Rumanian.
Modelling: use the more Orlock-ish AoS vampire heads; use giant rats on the Marines bases or as units of their own (rules?); maybe represent the Death Company with one of the Flesh-Eater Courts units?

    Twilight (Cullen family specifically)
    Symbol
    : No idea. Any suggestions?
Colours: Pale grey, treated so it slightly glitter in light, as the main colour. Any secondary/spot colour?
Concept: A “good guy” Chapter. Try to stave of the Red Thirst by drinking animal blood. Probably have pale complexion and good looks as an effect of their gene-seed, maybe with skin that glitter in strong light. The Space Wolves have a problem with them. Their homeworld, or at least the area where they have their fortress-monastery, is very rainy. Since the Cullens’ housing was modernistic and they did not dress up do I suggest having them as missing much of the baroque elements of the Blood Angels, and extra decorations of many chapters.

    Underworld
Symbol: maybe one of abstract symbol returningly used by the vampires in Underworld?
Colours: Black or blue-black as the main colour; the other one as the secondary/spot colour? Things that is usually gold should be silver, gems that are not blood drop shaped should be in could, pale colours.
Concept: Secretly the direct rulers of their homeworld; have three Chapter-masters but only one is awake at a time while the other two are kept in stasis; marked by pale skin and intensive irises. Light decadence? More interested in ruling what they see as theirs than to be out and hunting the Imperium’s enemies? Suffering from political infighting? The Space Wolves have a real problem with them. Names should be Central and Eastern European.
Should "Death Dealers” be the chapter’s name or the name of an elite among them? Should they be allied with catsuit clad death-cultists?

What do people think? Any suggestions of your own or vampier based concepts?

Well, Azrael, Asmodai, the watcher in the dark that holds the Lion's helm and two members of a tactical squad are painted. Currently waiting the suggested 48 hours before varnish and painting the bases. Will post picks Monday or Tuesday. after the varnish is dry(don't want to touch them much while they are the acrylic paint cures)

I think I did much better on the these. I am really happy. Used a grey primer instead of a black or white so I am really happy with the shade of green it came out with. Not too dark and not light enough that they would look like Salamders.

    @Gamiel.

One thing about the knight thing is the chapters all do not really n live as the planets nobles outside of the Ultramarines whose officers do. The two most knight my themed chapters are Knightly Monks.

    Visually
Robes over armor help. Dark Angels and Black Templars(and to a lesser extent some of the Ultra Marine named Characters) where surcoats or suplices over their armor often. The DA and the Templars are the most knightly feeling Chapters.

The Templars have strong ties to the Sister of battle(see the last stand of Hive Helsreach), they are also one the of the few Chapters that worship the Emperor as a god. Templars specialise in close combat bolt pistol and swords. They also do have not have scout company's, their neophyte's are assigned to a veteran(called confusing an initiate which is what every other chapter calls a neophyte).

While Dark angels do not have a higher than usually number of bike units one of their two elites, the Ravenwing is a bike unit. While they are extremely good with ranged weapons(plasma) they are also good extremely good with swords. They have a dueling culture ,every time the DA encounter the Space Wolves they have a honor duel between champions, in memory of the week long duel between their primarchs that happened during the great crusade at the end of the Ragnada Genocide, one of the coolest things is this is reflected on the tabletop. I actually played my first game yesterday and it was 2 v 2. Myself and a veteran space wolves player vs a Chaos player and a Necron player. Because I was playing Dark Angels and my team mate wss playing space space wolves we each had to select champion and play a short duel Before the game can start. IT's called the Lion and the Wolf.

On to the Lion himself this week.

See if there is a retail location near you. If there is you can get two minis and a how too Guide pretty cheaply. Then some primer and maybe three colors to start and your can see how. Take a look at some of the pictures I have posted here. My paintings is not great but its improving with practice. It just requires patience(good posture while working is also surprisingly important). Most other people are just happy when people paint their figures as there has been a problem in the past with what tournament players call the grey horde(people who play without paining their armies). This was such an issue that for 9th edition GW gives victory points for armies that are painted.

If you are really worried about paining, Paint Orkz. Then it does not matter as they are supposed to look crazy. Just green skin and lots of red clothing and armor, CUZ RED UNZ GOES FASTA, U ZOGGING UMIE.

Unfortunately there is no GW shop in my country :( and the only stores that are selling wh40k stuff have inflated prices... the same goes for the SW X-wing minis.

Perhaps. When I first joined the boards I was super into the Tau. (Hence the name Shadowsun)

Now I just flick through the lore so to speak.

Supreme Grandmaster Azrael and a watcher in the Dark Holding the Lion Helm, Relic of the Dark Angels Primarch, Lion EL'Jonson WIP.

I am very happy with how this one has turned out so far. Though I must admit, I hate back banners as much as I hate bearheaded mini's(Helmeted Marines are much easier, painting tiny eyes sucks)

Well, only have to work Thursday so I will be starting the Lion El Jonson model on Friday.

This afternoon when I woke up(I get off of my shift at work at 6am). I did the first bit of prep for the model, 5 minute soak in warm water and dawn detergent to get the release agent cleaned off the part. Tomorrow afternoon is I will build him, leaving the diorama base for later as I have to get different paints for the night lords that are dead/dieing at his feet in on it.

Whats your opinion on some of the gear options.

Should I for barehead or Helmet?

Lion sword( huge power sword) which is aestichally nicer or b
Wolf Blade(the chainsword) which is better on tabletop?

I'm very much so in the category of 'whatever looks cool' lol. Stats and weapons change a lot from edition to edition (Like Tau were OP in like 7th edition and then 8th got super nerfed)

Personally I like the look of the helmet with the Lion Sword he is Lion El Jonson after all, but really up to you. There ain't a wrong choice.

Been awhile since I've collected the mini's used to have a massive Ork hoard back in the day... dabble in the Lord of the Rings game for a bit. (This was before the Hobbit Strategy game came out, had Sauron and a rather sizeable Mordor army) Now that I live in the US (Where I find GW more difficult to come by and models more expensive) I haven't been able to jump back in...

So mY brother apparently ordered me a birthday present in August from Forge world and it finally came today. My birthday is August.

Lol, I got the Sigismund character model!!

Looks like I will paint a small detachment of 30k imperial fists to go with him to play when I do not want to play my Dark Angels.

Well tomorrow is another trip to then local game shop to get some yellow paints

Or you could paint him up in other colours and declare that he is Lord Segwarides of the Dark Angels' Crimson Templars brotherhood, or something like that.

I'm writing something involving the Crimson Knights Chapter, a Blood Angels successor, and I was thinking of having them being very knight-ish in culture, but I can’t decide if I want to use medieval noble/court titles from England, France, Italy , German, Sweden, or Spain. Was thinking that many of the standard ranks/titles should have an alternative (more medieval) name among the Crimson Knights but I can’t decide which language to use (or if I should use more than one). What do people think?

Just my two cents feel free to complete ignore it. LOL! :D:

I think Latin names might be pretty cool. Other than that French and Middle English make the most sense for alternate titles and ranks.
