Game of Throws at Acuña Matata

It would appear both @RX_Sith and @anakinfansince1983 dipped into Pointy's private supply before this game.

The No Worriers had a five-run, four-run, and a three-run inning, and hit five homers - Ronald Acuña Jr, Joe Cronin, Hank Aaron, Joe Torre, and Brian McCann all homering.

The Incestuous Bastards had a five-run inning and a nine-run inning, and hit four homers - Robert Alarmo, Yaz, Joltin' Joe, and Jason Giambi all homering.

Each team pounded out seventeen hits.

And, in the end, Matata ran out of outs for a comeback.

Every City Bandwagoners at Let's Play Two

After getting swept at home and putting his playoff hopes on life support, could heels find a way to win on the road?

It was looking good for heels heading into the bottom of the eighth, as he was up 5-2. But, Ty Cobb got a leadoff double, and Frank Robinson a two-run homer, and suddenly it was a one-run game. Ernie Banks got an infield single, and Bret Saberhagen hit Sammy Sosa, putting the go-ahead run on base. A Ryne Sandberg fielder's choice moved Banks to third, but a Frank Thomas pop out gave Saberhagen a chance to escape ... which he could not take, as Yogi Berra singled to score Banks, knock Saberhagen out of the game, and tie us at five. Rod Beck emerged from the shadows of the night to insert himself for Saberhagen, with Judge Judy unaware it was happening, to get the final out of the inning.

Could heels rally in the ninth?

Pinch hitting Bryce Harper singled to open the inning, and pinch runner Rickey Henderson put the go-ahead run on second by stealing it. Ichiro singled to score Rickey (I didn't really how cool that moment sounded until I typed it out), and after a walk to the Mick, Albert Pujols put a fastball into the bleachers, and put heels up 9-5.

The Bandwagoners would get one more insurance run, and Jonathan Papelbon would manage to not **** up in the ninth, and Every City would live to fight another day.

Sudden Valley Cornballers at ASSES

A Rogers Hornsby two-run homer in the first had Sudden Valley Cornballers rocking early, and they took a 3-2 lead into the seventh.

However, ASSES had a nine-run inning bookended by three-run run homers from Mark McGwire and Troy Tulowitzki, and that was that.

Incheon Hash Slingers at stone temple seattle pilots

Incheon Hash Slingers put five on the board before stone temple seattle pilots got a chance to swing a bat, and never looked back thanks to a great start from Chris Sale.

Sale went six-and-two-thirds innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, and striking out six.

Five different Slingers had RBI in the first inning - Babe Herman, Kenny Lofton, Lou Boudreau, Al Simmons, and Chris Sale.

It's highly doubtful tom cares, because a) he's clinched b) he's got good padding for the #1 seed and c) it might keep pointy out of the playoffs.

Amazings at Performance Enhancers

For the third straight game, Performance Enhancers scored double digit runs.

A six-run seventh inning was key for the champs, and featured a bases-loaded/bases-clearing double from Mike Trout and a two-run homer from Barry Bonds.

The game also featured a single batter save from Zach Britton, because Jon Stewart is trying to pad stats.

Reseda Free Fallers at A Shaq of Their Own

Each team scored a pair of runs in the first. Jim Thome had a two-run single for the Free Fallers, and Wee Willie Keeler and Arky Vaughan had RBI singles for the Big Dieselers.

But, Doc White settled in from there. He tossed seven innings, giving up two unearned runs on five hits.

Sandy Koufax did not settle in. The Big Dieselers scored one run in each of the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings, plus a four-run spot in the eighth to run away with it, and officially punch their ticket to the playoffs.

Amazings at Performance Enhancers

The good news for Amazings? They didn't give up double-digit runs to Performane Enhancers in this one.

The bad news? Tom Seaver was terrific and didn't need that much support.

Seaver tossed a complete game, giving up one run on six hit, striking out six and walking two.

A five-run fourth inning for the Enhancers moved it from "close game" to "no doubt". An Alex Rodriguez three-run homer was the big hit that inning, with Harry Heilman and Al Rosen added RBI singles.

Incheon Hash Slingers at stone temple seattle pilots

After splitting the first four games of the series, stone temple seattle pilots finally got their bats to explode in this one.

Nap Lajoie hit a three-run homer as part of a four-run fourth inning, and a Ken Griffey Sr three-run homer late removed all doubt.

The Incheon Hash Slingers could only manage a Javy Lopez solo home run as Matt Harvey was dominant, going six innings, allowing one run on seven hits, striking out four and walking four.

Dellin Betances and Chad Green combined to shut out the Slingers the rest of the way.

Every City Bandwagoners at Let's Play Two

With a win in their last game and the playoffs still there for the taking, could Every City Bandwagoners find their strength?

Not against Orval Overall, they couldn't.

Overall allowed one run on six hits in a complete game masterpiece, striking out three and walking three.

The Bandwagoners took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Ichiro in the second, but would muster nothing else against the fantastically named pitcher.

A Ryne Sandberg two-run homer in the third would give the Doubleheaders the lead for good, and Frank Robinson and Ernie Banks would go back-to-back in the fifth to make it 5-1 and remove any doubt.

Banks would add another homer later.

Sudden Valley Cornballers at ASSES

Having split the first four games of the series, both teams were pressing in this one, looking to take an edge in their races for a playoff spot. And, with just two spots remaining, the pressure was on.

A Ken Caminiti two-run homer in the second gave the Cornballers an early 3-1 lead, and a Jeff Bagwell solo homer in the sixth made it 4-1.

But, a pinch-hit, three-run homer from Mark McGwire tied the game at four in the seventh, and a solo homer from Cesar Cedeno off of the normally despicable Aroldis Chapman put the ASSES ahead, 5-4.

In the eighth, Sergio Romo came on in relief and gave up singles to the first two batters he faced, then got a double-play ground ball from Bagwell, scoring a run, but short charging the rally, and leaving us tied at five.

Jake Northrop - him again - walked in the go ahead run for the Cornballers, giving them a 6-5 lead entering the bottom of the ninth and a chance to take the game.

The Cornballers went to Fernando Rodney. Rodney got Troy Tulowiztki to ground out to open the inning, but gave up a single to the pinch hitting Bill Joyce. Harry Stovey replaced Joyce on the basepaths and stole second.

Then Joyce jogged home, as Cedeno hit a walk-off, two-run homer to give the win to the ASSES.

Game of Throws at Acuña Matata

Corey Kluber was fantastic.

A Complete game effort, with one run allowed on six hits, three strikeouts and one walk issued.

Zach Greinke ... was not. He got shelled for nine runs on seventeen hits, battling into the eighth inning.

Carl Yastrzemski and Hack Wilson each had three hits and three RBI, and Roberto Alomar had four hits.

Live look at the Bandwagoners:

Roger Clemens and Rod Beck combined for a one-run performance, allowing nine hits between them and striking out eleven.

Holding a tight 2-1 lead entering the ninth, the Bandwagoners exploded for twelve runs in the ninth against Billy Wagner and Lee Smith, and the Bandwagoners are alive ... but desperate ... entering their final series.

Greg Maddux deserved better, going eight innings, giving up just two unearned runs.

Sudden Valley Cornballers at ASSES

Another team desperate for a win, Sudden Valley Cornballers found themselves down 4-3 heading into the ninth.

Ken Caminiti got a leadoff single, but the pinch hitting Jeff Bagwell was retired for the first out. But, Christy Mathewson walked Billy Hamilton and Rogers Hornsby to load the bases, and Carlos Delgado doubled to empty the bases and put his team up 6-4, knocking Mathewson out of the game, and sending @Wang Chi into a delirious fit.

Up 6-4, the Cornballers gave the ball to the normally reliable Fernando Rodney ...

but with one out, Hornsby made an error, and Rodney issued a walk, retired Manny Ramirez, and Sam Thompson made an error, loading the bases. Walt Bond (both AmazingB and Wang cry out in horror) singled, scoring a pair, tying the game, and we were off to extras when Marlon from Finding Nemo grounded out.

We'd stay tied at six until the 11th.

With Sergio Romo on, Billy Hamilton singled, then got replaced on base by Rogers Hornsby after a fielder's choice. Carlos Delgado singled, moving Hornsby to third, but Babe Ruth struck out for the second out. Lin-Manuel Miranda went to ... you guessed it ... Jake Northrop. Northrop gave up a single to Luis Gonzalez and a double to Gabby Hartnett, and it was 9-6 in favor of the Cornballers.

Takashi Saito gave up a double to King Kelly, but retired Manny Ramirez, but struck out Shane Spencer, and then BJ Ryan retired Mark Loretta to end the game, probably making Pointy happier than anyone else.

Charlie Bender helped his own cause, both in the game and in the Cy Young Race, with an RBI single in the third to give his team a quick 1-0 lead.

The Incheon Hash Slingers responded, with an Al Simmons solo homer tying it in the fourth.

Lou Gehrig pinch hit for Bender in the seventh, hitting a two-run homer to put stone temple seattle pilots back on top, 3-1.

Todd Helton pinch hit in the eighth with the bases loaded, and drew a walk to bring his team within 3-2.

And in the ninth, Tom Hanks as Jimmy Dugan went to Eric Gagne. Gagne retired Hughie from the the Boys to open the inning, but gave up a one-out single to Babe Herman. Herman stole second, and Gagne hit Jimmie Foxx on the knee. MVP Candidate Kenny Lofton flew out to left, and Gagne got Lou Boudreau to ground out and end the game.

Mike Piazza hit a three-run homer in the third.

Luis Tiant tossed seven solid innings, giving up three runs on six hits.

And Joe Morgan tripled from baseball heaven in the fifth to score Jim Thome, and the Reseda Free Fallers did just enough to win their series finale against the Big Dieselers.

Amazings at Performance Enhancers

Al Rosen got an RBI double in the second, as he continued his late push for MVP votes, and Performane Enhancers lead 1-0 early.

Harry Heilman made it 3-0 with a two-run double in the fifth, with Mel Ott answering with an RBI single in the sixth, and we were sitting at 3-1, with the Enhancers looking for the six-game sweep.

Barry Bonds added an insurance run with an RBI single in the seventh, and in the eighth, Amazings would try to rally.

Chuck Klein would single with one out, and move to third on a single from Stan Musial. Mel Ott singled to score Klein, and Hank Greenberg doubled, scoring Musial, knocking Cy Young out of the game. Blake Treinen relieved, struck out Roberto Clemente, and got a fly out from Cal Ripken Jr. to fly out to end the inning, with Performance Enhancers clinging to a narrow, 4-3 lead.

Jon Stewart gave the ball to Zach Britton in the ninth, and with results around the league pouring in, he knew - three outs and the Enhancers would enter the final series in a playoff position.

Roy Campanella singled to open the inning, and Mr. Met sent up Wade Boggs as a pinch hitter. But, Boggs was drunk and struck out. Jackie Robinson hit into a fielder's choice for the second out, but stole second, putting the tying run in scoring position. Chuck Klein drew a walk, putting the go-ahead run on base.

But, Britton got Musial to ground out, ending the game, and putting the Enhancers squarely in control of their own destiny, above the red line with six to play!

We have two series with no impact on the playoff picture. With all four teams involved eliminated, you can make use of the new roster rules and add active players to your roster at no cost.

@cubman987 and Let's Play Two will head to Queens and take on @AmazingB and Amazings.
@anakinfansince1983 and Acuña Matata will head to Reseda and take on @DarthTunick and the Free Fallers.

With no room for error, @Wang Chi and Sudden Valley Cornballers will head to New York to take on @a star war and Incheon Hash Slingers, who suddenly find themselves on the wrong side of the red line

Hanging on by a thread, @heels1785 and Every City Bandwagoners have perhaps the easiest draw of the round, heading to Boston to take on @RX_Sith and Game of Throws

And, the teams currently in 3rd and 4th place, in a rematch of last years' world series, in what feels like a Megatron vs. Optimus "One will stand, one will fall" type matchup, @Point Given heads to Florida to take on @dp4m as the Performance Enhancers clash with the ASSES.

 

My season could have ended no other way.

If I counted right, I set us up for Johnson / Hoss -- the Battle of the Ancients.

 

Same lineup as last time.

 

I actually think heels is probably in the most advantageous position, because you and dp will combine for six losses, and he is a good bet to take at least five of six. Meanwhile, a split would knock Wang out no matter what, so he needs to hope one of you dominate the series, and heels stubs his toe

Of course, given what's happened in previous drafts, you two will split, heels will take 5/6, and asw will take 4/6, giving us a four-way tie with 79 wins.

The other big tiebreaker that could happen would be for one of pointy/dp to take five (81 wins, third seed), Wang to take five wins, and heels to go 3-3, which I believe would put us with three teams on 77 wins (and might be Wang's realistic best case scenario)

 

But Sir! The odds of the Cornballers successfully navigating this asteroid field are approximately 3,720 to 1!

 

On second thought, @Wang Chi your best chance might be for tom to have to forfeit all games involving Lou Gehrig, which opens up another playoff spot.
