Great to see you back @Rebecca_Daniels :)

So for those who have played Squadrons, is it really that in MP there are only 5 players per team meaning only 10 Star Fighters flying between several large and medium sized ships? Feels kind of a bit strange to me, or are there bots to add at least a little bit more numbers to either side?

"Almost funny", @Rebecca_Daniels? Gosh, I'm overwhelmed. What do I have to do to get a laugh out of you? Harrumph. [face_not_talking]

But seriously, not alone is great. :)

@Anedon that is my understanding haven’t busted into MP yet. 5 on 5 human action and bots flesh out the rest of the battle. The fleet battles that I did in SP were pretty cool.

10 living players total with some AI fighters on each side. The battles progress thusly:
Phase 1: Fighters vs corvettes. Side with more morale advances to hit the Frigates.
Phase 2: If the frigates are destroyed, victorious side moves on to Flagship
Phase 3: Knock down Flagship and disable subsystems to make your job easier.

At any stage it is possible for the defenders to reverse the match and come back if they shoot down sufficient fighters and corvettes.

There's also dogfight mode which is just 5v5.

Honestly? It's comfy. I'm liking the A-Wing and Y-Wing more than I thought, and I've got a NASTY X-Wing configuration.

Son said playing as a Rebel was great, playing as an Imp grated on his morals and soul!!! Destroy the convoy full of civilian survivors of Alderaan. He said 'civilians?' and almost whimpered (part of me was so proud I'd raised him right!) and cringed knowing if he didn't he'd not complete the mission and not progress. The 'bridge of that ship' mission really caused him constellation, those of you who have gotten that far will know who was on that bridge! Having said all that, he's loving it.

For some reason I can see @Sarge flying this. Does give me added appreciation for what goes into flying an aircraft safely though.

Lysander pilots were the gutsiest. During WW2 they'd fly across the Channel at night and land in open fields in occupied France, dropping off agents and supplies for the French resistance, and flying out with rescued Allied aircrews and returning spies. And hope against hope they wouldn't get caught on the ground by the Gestapo.

I've spent way too much time trying to figure out if any of the names are anagrams for TRAITOR or BETRAYAL.

"Barve-holes." I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it sounds highly uncomplimentary to me.

IIRC, there was an EU novel about bounty hunters who used the term son-of-a-barve. I hope that clears things up.

Highly recommended reading, especially for the Y-wing drivers:

The Warbirds by Richard Herman Jr
A novel about fighter pilots flying F-4 Phantoms in a fictional mid-east conflict, written by an F-4 pilot who knows how to write. Published in 1990, I imagine the war would look rather different if it had been written after Desert Storm in '91. Characters seemed stereotypical at first, but grew deeper and more interesting as the story progressed. The author obviously knew a lot of people like his characters; so did I, and they ring true. There are a couple of sub-plots involving C-130's which totally nail the atmosphere and life of a Herk crew (I believe the author piloted the 130 as well as the Phantom, two of the ugliest airplanes in the USAF). There are also some guest appearances by F-15's, Mirage 2000's, and lots of MiG-23's. This one gets an enthusiastic Sarge's Stamp Of Authenticity.

Y-Wings and F-4s. I'm down. The comparisons are eerily similar.

Read that way back when it came out and it was one of my favorites that I re read several times. There are numerous sequel books as well that carry the story forward, featuring Mudhens (F-15E Strike Eagles) and then eventually even Warthogs (A-10 Thunderbolts). The second book in the series came out during Desert Shield/Storm, or shortly thereafter, as I recall and was thus very jarring to read at the time. Overall a really good series that surely influenced my own feelings towards flying and the military and yes, even the Black Sheep game.
