Every City Bandwagoners at Game of Throws

heels quest to qualify for the playoffs could take him to only one place - Virtual Boston.

And, with their season on the line, Every City Bandwagoners would give the nod to Eddie Cicotte.

Cicotte would get himself into a jam in the first inning, hitting Robbie Alomar with a pitch with one out, and then letting Alomar steal second, to put himself in scoring position. Joe Dimaggio would double to score Alomar, and it was quickly 1-0 to Game of Throws, though Cicotte would escape the inning with no further damage.

In the third, Cicotte would issue a leadoff walk to Robin Yount, and a one-out single to Dimaggio, putting runners on the corners. Carl Yastrzemski would lift a fly ball to deep enough left to score Yount, and the Kings of the North had an early 2-0 lead.

GoT starter Cliff Lee would exit after five, giving up just one hit, and the Bandwagoners would be happy to see him gone. Honus Wagner tripled off reliever Hoyt Wilhelm, and scored on an Ichiro ground out to halve the lead at 2-1.

Still, with the crisp, fall, stench of a Boston Fall Evening, the Bandwagoners' bats were quiet, and that 2-1 scoreline took us to the eighth inning.

And, in the top of the eighth, the entire complexion of the game changed.

Eddie Collins and Honus Wagner singled to open the inning, putting runners on the corners. Judge Judy sent up Mookie Betts as a pinch hitter for Rod Beck, and he doubled to score both runners and give the Bandwagoners their first lead of the game. Ichiro singled, moving Betts to third, and Mickey Mantle and Albert Pujols each singled home runs before a walk to Mike Schmidt saw Jon Snow finally go to the bullpen, calling on Trevor Hoffman to relieve Francisco Cordero.

Hoffman gave up a two-run single to Larry Walker and an RBI single to Buster Posey, plus a walk to Eddie Collins, to re-load the bases before getting Wagner to fly out for the first out of the inning. Betts recorded the second out, though it scored another run, and after a walk to Ichiro, Snow turned to Corey Kluber to finally retire teh final out of the inning.

But the damage was done, and the Bandwagoners, having scored eight runs in the inning, lead 9-2.

Even Judge Judy couldn't mismanage a pen bad enough to blow that lead, and the Bandwagoners took game one.

Performance Enhancers at ASSES

Harry Heilman got Performance Enhancers going, with a two-out, RBI single in the first.

That good feeling would leave in the third, though, as the ASSES put together a six-run inning.

Manny Ramirez walked, Shawn Spencer singled, and Mark Loretta walked, loading the bases. Walt Bond singled to score a pair, and Marlon from Finding Nemo walked to re-load the bases. Troy Tulowitzki added a sac fly, Silver King walked, Cesar Cedeno hit into a run-scoring fielder's choice, King Kelly walked, and Manny Ramirez scored two with a ground-rule double, causing Jon Stewart to pull Rube Waddell in favor of Rollie Fingers.

Waddell's final line, with his team desperate for a great start: two-and-two-thirds innings pitched, six runs allowed on five hits, eight walks and one strikeout.

The ASSES scored five more in the sixth, and King pitched a complete game, allowing four runs on twelve hits to take the opener.

Sudden Valley Cornballers at Incheon Hash Slingers

How would Bartolo Colon respond to having the ball handed to him in such a high-pressure situation?

With eight innings of shut-out baseball, scattering eight hits, striking out three, and walking one.

Babe Ruth got an RBI single to back him in the third, and Colon got an RBI ground out in the fourth to push the lead to 2-0.

Sudden Valley Cornballers then found a can of whoopass in the fifth and opted to open it.

Rogers Hornsy singled to open the inning, as did Jeff Bagwell. Babe Ruth singled to score Hornsby, Luis Gonzalez singled to score Bagwell, Jack Glasscock singled to score Roger Bresnahan, and George Davis singled to score Glasscock. Sean Doolittle relieved, but the single parade continued, with Colon singling to score Bresnahan, and a Babe Herman error scoring Davis.

Finally, two fly outs and a strike out ended the inning.

The Cornballers added one more run late, and BJ Ryan pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to keep their playoff hopes faintly alive with a game one victory.

Performance Enhancers at ASSES

Charlie "Old Hoss" Radbourn and Walter "Big Train" Johnson delivered on the hype for a great pitching match-up in this one, with the fakeness of relocating your team to Miami midseason stale in the air over a big time game.

The first two batters of the game reached against Radbourn, but King Kelly was caught stealing, leaving us with a runner on third and one out. Manny Ramirez singled him home to give the ASSES a quick 1-0 lead before Radbourn got out of the inning with no further damage.

In the fourth, the ASSES would expand the lead. Troy Tulowitzki got a one-out single to put runners on the corners, singles from Johnson and Cesar Cedeno each plated a run, making it 3-0 to the ASSES.

That would be all the ASSES would get against Radbourn as he - and Blake Treinen - shut them down from there.

Unfortunately for the champs, it was all the ASSES would need, because Johnson delivered perhaps his best outing of the season. He tossed a complete game shutout, giving up just two hits, walking three, and striking out four.

Sudden Valley Cornballers at Incheon Hash Slingers

Sudden Valley Cornballers struck first, with a two-out, RBI single from Jeff Bagwell in the third.

But, Incheon Hash Slingers struck harder, getting four in the fourth inning. Joe Kelley hit into a one-out fielder's choice to score the first run, and after he stole second, an error from Jack Glasscock meant not the end of the inning, as it should, but Hughie from the Boys on base. Babe Herman singled to score Kelley, and Jimmie Foxx walked to load the bases. Kenny Lofton walked, scoring Hughie, and a George Davis error - which should have been the fourth out of the inning - let Lou Boudreau reach and Herman score, before Al Simmons popped out to end the inning.

But, with those three unearned runs, the Hash Slingers took a 4-1 lead into the seventh.

Glasscock was hit by a pitch to open the seventh, and an error by Hughie put a second runner on base. George Davis popped out for the first out, but the pinch hitting Carlos Delgado singled, scoring Glasscock and cutting the lead to 4-2. Billy Hamilton then singled, scoring Roger Bresnahan, and a Rogers Hornsby ground out was the second out of the inning.

But, Jeff Bagwell delivered the clutch, two-out single to score Hamilton and tie the game, knocking Pete Alexander out of the game. Cla Meredith relieved, but gave up a two-run single to Babe Ruth, before walking Bagwell and getting a shallow flyout from Glasscock to end the inning.

The Cornballers turned to Aroldis Chapman out of the bullpen. He got a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh, but a one-out error by Hornsby in the eighth put the potential tying run at the plate. Chapman retired Joe Kelley for the second out of the inning, but hit Hughie in the head with a fastball, and that was his last pitch, as Kenley Jansen relieved and struck out Babe Herman, who was representing the go-ahead run.

In the ninth, Fernando Rodney was called upon, and with one out, he gave up a single to Kenny Lofton. But, he got Jimmie Foxx to hit into the game-ending double play, and the Cornballers will be alive for another day.

Every City Bandwagoners at Game of Throws

Every City Bandwagoners fell behind early, with Carl Yastrzemski hitting a leadoff homer in the second, putting them down 1-0.

They tied it in the third, as Eddie Collins got a leadoff double, and scored on a single from Honus Wagner, then took a 2-1 lead in the fourth as Larry Walker hit a solo homer with one out.

We'd stay there until the sixth, when Chris Hoiles would double and score Yastrzemski with two outs, and it was Yastrzemski involved again in the seventh, hitting into a double play that brought home Robbie Alomar, and putting the Kings of the North up 3-2.

Down to six outs in a game they couldn't afford to lose, the Bandwagoners got singles from Walker and Buster Posey to open the inning, putting runners on the corners and nobody out. Eddie Collins grounded out, with Walker scoring, and Posey retired at second, tying the game with one out. Collins stole second, and moved to third as Honus Wagner grounded out.

Judge Judy sent out Mookie Betts as a pinch hitter, and Betts was issued an intentional walk, with Jon Snow then bringing in Francisco Cordero to face Ichiro.

It looked to work, as Corder got a ground ball to first out of Ichiro, but Jason Giambi was paid off by heels to impersonate Bill Buckner prior to the game misplayed the ball, Ichiro reached, and Collins scored, putting the Bandwagoners up 4-3.

Judge Judy went with Jonathan Papelbon in the eighth and got a 1-2-3 inning, then went with Francisco Rodriguez in the ninth. K-Rod walked the leadoff hitter, then got a ground out from Robin Yount, and a game-ending 6-4-3 double play from the bat of Robbie Alomar to get the win, and add even more drama to the playoff race.

Sudden Valley Cornballers at Incheon Hash Slingers

Looking for a road sweep and to get fully back into the playoff conversation, Sudden Valley Cornballers got an RBI double from Babe Ruth in the first inning, grabbing a quick 1-0 lead.

That lead didn't last long, as Babe Herman hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, and a two-out, RBI single from Lou Boudreau to make it 3-1.

Roger Bresnahan lead off the second with a triple, scoring on a George Davis ground out, cutting the gap to 3-2, but Kenny Lofton - making that late MVP push - got an RBI single in the bottom of the third. That was followed by a walk to Boudreau to load the bases, an Al Simmons ground out to make it 5-2, and a Javy Lopez three-run homer to push the lead to 8-2.

Ruth pulled another back for the Cornballers in the sixth, and Davis another in the ninth, but the deficit was too large, and the Cornballers lost, losing their last margin of error.

Gerrit Cole probably wanted a trash can to hide in after this one, lasting just three innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits, with a pair of walks and a pair of strikeouts.

Every City Bandwagoners at Game of Throws

Every City Bandwagoners put up five runs in the top of the first, and Albert Pujols hit a two-run homer in the fifth, and the Bandwagoners were cruising at 7-0.

But, there's one important factor to remember ... heels.

And that 7-0 lead wasn't safe for that reason.

A Hack Wilson three-run home run highlighted a five-run sixth for Game of Throws to see them get back to within 7-5.

An Albert Belle pinch-hit RBI double made it 7-6 in the eighth, but Judge Judy was able to give a one-run lead and the ball in the ninth inning to Francisco Rodriguez.

Rodriguez struck out Robbie Alomar and Joe Dimaggio to open the inning, putting the Bandwagoners one out away from the road sweep and staying on the right side of the red playoff line.

But Carl Yastrzemski got a hold of an offering from K-Rod and put it just over the fence in center, tying the game at seven, and sending us to extra innings.

The tenth and the eleventh went scoreless, and Judy sent out Mariano Rivera for a second inning of relief.

Rivera walked Hack Wilson to open the twelfth, and a Jason Giambi double scored Wilson, walked it off, and put a dent in heels' playoff plans.

Performance Enhancers at ASSES

Shane Spencer hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the second, tying the game at one and matching a leadoff homer from Mike Trout in the top of the first.

That homer, though, was the only run given up by Tom Seaver, as Tom Terrific made sure his team did not get swept in the road portion of their series.

Seaver tossed a complete game, giving up that one run on seven hits, walking one and striking out ten.

Trout added an RBI single in the third to put his team back ahead, and Barry Bonds hit a two-run homer off of Sergio Romo in the eighth to add some insurance, giving Seaver all the backing he need and the Enhancers the win they needed to keep their hopes alive for a third consecutive title.
