So "Gamers" have decided the gay people and trans person just existing in TLOU2 are "political" and ruin it for people who "just want to have fun."

Let's talk about that, and how freaking scared of anything but toxic masculinity our culture is at large.

Let's also lol at this GamingCircleJerk post

    Link because bad words

My response was along the lines of "ah yes, FFVII, the game where you literally play a bunch of ecoterrorists. But no one is gay, so it's not political".

I know toxic gamer is laughed at but a vocal minority is very toxic it’s changed a lot since the days of 2010 when I got called a ****** every game. But those people are still there

I just think it's interesting that ACTUAL politics they probably don't agree with don't bother them in a game. I mean Avalanche blows up reactors and kills innocent people as collateral on the way to saving the planet for instance.

But then LGBTQ people existing in games, but not saying anything actually political (The Last of Us is deeply about morality, but not politics) is terrible and distracting. The cognitive dissonance is amazing.

It’s because they think anything with LGBTQ folk in it is inherently political. They think supporting them is inherently political

Politics is absolutely when there are women, brown people, and LGBTQ people in fiction. These people hate leftism, but have never had a problem with leftist ideas in games and fiction. Star Trek is a prime example. The Federation (and Starfleet) is a socialist, leftist, egalitarian utopia. But it's never mattered to these people, because at the end of the day they were watching a military that looked like them. Sure, there were nonwhites, but there were also plenty of straight white dudes in each Trek. But then with discovery, we got only one straight white dude (Lorca). For the first time, Star Trek was political.

There were two, thank you very much! Please don't Vulcan-erase Sarek! :p

(but yeah -- the cognitive dissonance over Discovery was... something...)

Well that's what they think, but it's utter BS. I hate that my existence is seen by many of my fellow gamers as political. Without actually knowing anything about my actual politics.

It's just another way of saying "this is taboo and shouldn't be talked about". Nevermind that in many JRPGs you literally set out to kill God... That's fine, as long as you do so while straight and white (or Japanese I guess).

You're very right about ST Vivec. I can't imagine why any right wing person could like ST. They only do so by vastly missing the point.

Star Trek is about a military. I get into arguments with trekkies a lot on this but Starfleet is a military. Right wingers believe that "our military is good" regardless of who is in charge. The American military was always good regardless of whether domestic policy was Democratic or Republican. This is because they identify as Americans. Just like when they watch Star Trek, they identify with the Federation and Starfleet. It doesn't matter what the structure of Federation society is, Starfleet is half the reason these people are Elon Musk fanboys. When they watch Star Trek, they see themselves. But not when they watched Discovery. And that's why the fiction in their head falls apart when it comes to discovery.

The original conception of Starfleet probably was more along the lines of UNPOL than the US military, or at least it ought to have been. But such a point would probably have been lost on the RWers.

Yeah. The "offense" here was jaw-dropping. It wasn't even like they were saying NEO Nazis are bad. No we're talking about the OGs..

The Wolfenstein series were "only" 36 years old at that point...

Back in the day - especially true for Wolfenstein 3D - people weren't complaining because Nazis were being mistreated, but because Nazi imagery in the game was over-interpreted as being supportive of a Nazi agenda...

In my opinion both SJWs and anti SJWs are annoying.

They both love to complain and yell about the games that they don't ever want to play.

Just let the developers and publishers make whatever the hell they want.

It's power dynamics, about who sets the rules and framework and that is no longer the domain of a particular demographic which tends to be loud and obnoxious about things having changed. Too bad, the right has got to dominate politics for over 40 years but whinges about other people being represented in mass media content.

As to Trek, Trek II did a lot to embed the military elements in.

As to games being political, Legion will re-ignite that one while UbiSoft swears it's not.

When, of course, it's the exclusion of them that has always been political. It's a classic reversal move. Erase people from the dominant culture's art for as long as possible for political reasons; and then when the erasure stops working and art begins to simply reflect reality, slam that reflection as political and agenda-driven. Accuse the other side of doing what you've been doing for decades.

Denmark launches children's TV show about man with giant penis

John Dillermand has an extraordinary penis. So extraordinary, in fact, that it can perform rescue operations, etch murals, hoist a flag and even steal ice-cream from children.

The Danish equivalent of the BBC, DR, has a new animated series aimed at four- to eight-year-olds about John Dillermand, the man with the world’s longest penis who overcomes hardships and challenges with his record-breaking genitals.

This is about 30 minutes, but I'm glad that Ana and Nomiki had this discussion. It's overdue. I've encountered some leftists who are jealous and misogynistic toward AOC. I can smell the white privilege when people go after her. It's awful.

Bingo. As usual, the "hardcore" members of each side of things both need to go find something else to do. ;).

Does anyone here play the CCG Hearthstone? That game brings out a lot of toxicity amongst the player base. After games you can get a friend request and 99/100 times it’s that you beat them and they want to wish death on you, your kids or your mother. It’s like....relax bro, it’s a digital online card game.

My favourite stupid outrage recently was because Bioware are editing some of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition cutscenes to remove unnecessary low angle shots from behind of characters like Miranda Lawson from ME2 and alter some of the Female Shepard model for ME1 and ME2.

Apparently making women less objectified or correcting awkward camera angles is bad and is pandering to the SJWs. Or something.
I remember similar uproar from the incel community when the FFVII remaster supposedly reduced the size of Tifa Lockhart's chest as if that ruined the game for them.

As for why Conservatives like Star Trek - I agree it's the military thing mainly. ST is of course a very socialist utopia idea, but sometimes I've seen people speak of it in a very colonialist way. The Federation is the advanced great society going out there and civilising the rest of the galaxy. Those silly backwards dystopian places where the people haven't reached the level of awesome perfection and have to be shown how outdated they are by the technological people who obviously know better.
That whole perspective has White Saviour undertones to it.
