You can't give an offense as potent as Performance Enhancers any extra outs.

And yet, that's what A Shaq of Their Own did to start the second inning.

Arky Vaughan booted a routine groundball, and Norm Cash reached first base. Cash went to second as Harry Heilmann singled, and to third as Al Rosen walked. Cash scored on a walk from Joe Mauer, and Heilmann scored on a walk to Rosen. Vaughan then booted another groundball, letting Cy Young reach base and Rosen to score. Mike Trout doubled, scoring Mauer and Gehringer, and Alex Rodriguez flew out for the first (should have been third) out of the inning, and Barry Bonds flew out for the second (should have been fourth) out. Jack Clements then had a passed ball while trying to address his hemorrhoid issue manually, and Cy Young scored, before a Cash flyout to center ended the inning. But, with three earned runs and three unearned runs, Performance Enhancers held an early 6-0 lead.

But, in the top of the third, the bats for Shaq would make like Lor San Tekka, and began to makes things right.

Clements singled, and moved to second as Doc White laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt. John McGraw drew a walk, and Shoeless Joe Jackson tripled, scoring them both. Ted Williams grounded out, scoring Jackson, and the lead was half of what it had been, at 6-3, as a George Sisler ground out ended the inning.

White got a 1-2-3 third, and his offense went back to work in the fourth. Wee Willie Keeler singled, and an Arky Vaughan ground out moved him to second. Tris Speaker doubled to score him, and it was 6-4 after four innings.

White worked around a leadoff single in the fifth to keep it at 6-4, and John McGraw would spark another rally in the fifth.

McGraw walked to open the inning, and stole second. Jackson grounded out, moving him to third, but a Ted Williams pop out was out number two. No worries for the Big Dieselers, who got a two-out, RBI single from Sisler, who then stole second, and scored on a single from Keeler to tie the game. Vaughan then made amends for his two errors, hitting a go-ahead homer to right that put his team in front, and ended the night for Cy Young. Rollie Fingers relieved, and retired Tris Speaker to end the inning.

Young's final line: 4.2 IP, eight runns allowed on eight hits, two walks and just one strikeout.

Pitching held from there until a Keeler RBI single in the seventh added an insurance run, making it 9-6 for Shaq as we had the seventh inning stretch.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Enhancers would get their chance. Alex Rodriguez doubled to open the inning, and Barry Bonds walked. Norm Cash struck out, and Harry Heilmann flew out, giving us two outs, and Shaq-as-Barnes-as-Dugan went to Hong-Chi Kuo out of the pen. He gave up a single to Al Rosen, but Alex Rodriguez did not want to test Ted Williams arm, and stayed at third, giving us the bases loaded with two outs. And Kuo would win this battle, getting Mauer to fly out to end the inning.

Blake Treinen gave his team a 1-2-3 top of the eighth, and an error from Kuo would put Charlie Gehringer on to start the bottom of the eighth. But, it would come to nothing as Kuo retired the pinch hitting Miguel Cabrera, Mike Trout, and Alex Rodriguez to send us to the ninth.

Jon Stewart would go to Keith Foulke in the ninth, and he would walk McGraw to open the inning, and then McGraw would steal second, his second stole base of the game. McGraw would move to third on a ground out by Jackson, and score on a single by Williams. Foulke would strike out Sisler and get a ground out from Keeler, but his team was now down four entering the ninth.

Barry Bonds drew a leadoff walk in the ninth, causing S-B-D to pull Kuo in favor of the recently untied Vida Blue. Blue would give up singles to the first three batters he faced - Cash, Heilmann, and Al Rosen - the second of which each scored a run.

Blue got a shallow flyout of Joe Mauer, and a strikeout of Charlie Gehringer, putting us at two-on, two-out, and a two-run game as Jon Stewart sent Edgardo Alfonzo up as a pinch hitter.

And Blue would reward his manager's confidence in not duct taping him to the bench, as he got Alfonzo to ground out, putting A Shaq of Their Own one win away from a trip to the World Series.

While the narrative of Playoff Kershaw is demonstrably false, and a dive into the data tends to show the issues is with his manager, not him ... it's fun to talk about.

Especially when mythical "Playoff Kershaw" shows up in force for a playoff game.

And, that's exactly what happened here.

The first thrown by Clayton Kershaw? hit over the fence by Hugh Duffy. Nap Lajoie then got a one-out single, and Edgar Martinez - getting the surprise start over Lou Gehrig - homered to make it 3-0 before the ASSES got a chance to bat. stone temple seattle pilots had a chance for a bigger inning, with a one-out double from Jocko Milligan after the Martinez homer, but Kershaw retired Ken Griffey Jr. and Hanley Ramirez to escape further damage.

It would take until the third inning before his bats could bring some help to Kershaw, but the did finally come alive in the third. Mark Loretta singled, and Troy Tulotzki reached on an error from Nap Lajoie. Kershaw hit into a fielder's choice, with Loretta moving to third, and a double from Cesar Cedeno scored both Loretta and Kershaw. King Kelly singled, and Cedeno scored, before Kelly was thrown out trying to steal second to end the inning, but the score was now tied at three.

Kershaw worked a 1-2-3 fourth, and Bender worked around a one-out double by the mythical legend of Shane Spencer, sending us to the fifth tied.

Bender grounded out to start the inning, but Hugh Duffy untied the game, homering to left-center, and putting the pilots up 4-3. Kershaw would retire Tip O'Neill and Nap Lajoie, and his night would come to end, as he would be pinch hit for in the bottom of the fifth.

Kershaw's final line: five innings pitched, four runs allowed on six hits - but three of those hits left the yard - with no walks and three strikeouts.

Lin-Manuel Miranda would send up Mark McGwire to pinch hit for Kershaw, and he would draw a leadoff walk, before being replaced on the basepaths by Pete Browning, via a fielder's choice. Browning would steal second, but a fly out from Cesar Cedeno would bring about the second out of the inning. Jocko Milligan would get charged with a passed ball, moving Browning to third, and the game would be tied at four, as King Kelly singled home Browning, but just like the first time Kelly tied the game, he would end the inning getting caught stealing.

Onto the sixth we went, with Miranda summoning Koji Uehara from the bullpen. He looked great ... until he didn't. He got a weak ground out from Edgar Martinez and struck out Jocko Milligan, but as Jose Ramirez would say ... "you know bro, home run pitch" ... the long ball continued to plague the ASSES, and Ken Griffey Jr. took Uehara deep and out of the park to left-center, putting the pilots up 5-4.

The ASSES, though, would look to rally immediately. Manny Ramirez singled to open the bottom of the sixth, but a line out from Spencer and a fielder's choice from Marlon from Finding Nemo were two quick outs. But, George Brett couldn't handle the groundball, putting Mark Loretta on first, and a walk to Troy Tulowitzki loaded the bases.

Miranda went to the bench and opted for Walt Bond. But, Bond grounded out, with Brett scooping up the ball, and firing to first to retire Bond, and keep the pilots ahead by one.

It was Sergio Romo for the seventh, and Brett atoned for his error, getting a leadoff single. With one out, Hugh Duffy singled, moving Brett to third, and Hugh Duffy hit the ball deep enough to score Brett from third, giving the pilots an important insurance run. Duffy stole second, but wouldn't get any further as Nap Lajoie grounded out to end the inning.

After the Seventh Inning Stretch, Pete Browning drew a leadoff walk off of Bender, and moved to second as Cesar Cedeno grounded out. Kign Kelly grounded out to third, for the second out, with Browning held at second, but a Manny Ramirez single scored Browning, and cut the pilots lead to 6-5. Shawn Spencer singled, putting runners on the corners with two outs, but Bender struck out Nemo's Dad, ending the inning with the tying run ninety feet away.

Fred Toney was then called upon my Miranda, hoping to keep it a one-run game.

Those hopes ... were quickly dashed.

Edgar Martinez got a leadoff single, and Milligan singled to move him to third. Martinez scored as Griffey Jr. hit a sac fly, with Milligan moving to second on the throw home, and Milligan moved to third as Hanley Ramirez grounded out. After an intentional walk to George Brett, Tom Hanks as Jimmy Dugan decided to go for it, sending up Lou Gehrig as a pinch hitter for Bender. And Gehrig ... drew a walk to load the bases. But, Hugh Duffy then stepped up and doubled, emptying the bases, putting his team up 10-5, and ending the night for Toney. Jake Northrop relived and retired Tip O'Neill, but the damage was done, and the ASSES had just six outs to make up a four run deficit, or they'd be headed to the off-season.

Dellin Betances got the call from the pen. He got a ground out from Mark Loretta, a line out from Troy Tulowitzki, and in a sign that Manuel had given up on the game - and the season - Jake Northrop batted and popped out.

Northrop got a 1-2-3 ninth, but so did Dellin Betances, ending the game, and the series, and sending stone temple seattle pilots back to the World Series for the second time in three year.

First off... I would like to apologize for my absence yesterday. My goldfish, Skip, was a little under the weather and we had to take him to the vet. Thankfully the DAVID-19 test came back negative and he's doing much better. And I want to thank everyone for all the well wishes, thoughts and prayers you sent our way over social media. Thank you for keeping Skip in your hearts.

Now. Onto business. The Enhancers are straight up CHO-KING this series away. They're taking my prediction of them winning this one in 6 and wiping their unmentionables with it. Utterly disrespectful. And why haven't I seen Barry Bonds' face on a milk carton yet? Maybe if we leave a trail of androstenedione bottles from his hotel room to the stadium he might actually show up to PLAY next game.

A Shaq of Their Own is closing this one out in 6, and I will not tolerate any disagreement on the matter.

And now we get to some happier news, because the stone temple seattle pilots may have just ushered in world peace down in Miami. Ne-ver before in the history of mankind has everyone on the planet been so united in celebration as when Dellin Be-TAN-ces got that final groundout to send the ASSES packing for good and forever. They're partying in Times Square. They're partying in Tiananmen Square. They're partying outside the Taj Mahal. You've got the biggest damn scrum of emperor penguins the world has ever SEEN down in the Antarctic. It's everywhere. Every race, religion, color and creed has come together in a beautiful, harmonious camaraderie that will last up until the Earth gets swallowed by the Sun.

It was the kind of performance that over the course of the last two seasons Performance Enhancers had come to be known for: a dominant pitching performance, and a can of whoop ass at the plate.

This time, though, it was Jake Arrieta dominating on the mound.

And the likes of George Sisler, John McGraw, Arky Vaughan, and Tris Speaker using the can opener.

Arrieta was exactly what you want in a game where you can clinch a trip to the world series. He went six innings, giving up one run on seven hits, striking out five and walking one. His only blemish was a leadoff homer from Norm Cash in the fourth inning.

Rube Waddell was not what you want with your season on the line, lasting just five innings, giving up nine runs on ten hits, walking four and striking out nobody.

A Shaq of Their Own got it going in the bottom of the first, with a leadoff single from McGraw. McGraw stole second and moved to third on a bad throw from Joe Mauer, scoring when Shoeless Joe Jackson singled. Jackson stole second, moved to third on a ground out from Ted Williams, and scored as Sisler doubled, and Speaker singled with two outs to score Sisler, making it 3-0 after one.

The aforementioned Cash homer made it 3-1, but A Shaq of Their Own struck back like the Empire in the bottom of the inning.

Vaughan singled, and Speaker drew a walk. Pudge Rodriguez singled to score Vaughan, and Arrieta singled to score Speaker. McGraw walked to load the bases, but Jackson grounded out, with the lead runner retired at home. Ted Williams hit into a run-scoring fielder's choice, and Sisler singled to score McGraw, making it 7-1 after four innings.

McGraw got an RBI double in the sixth, scoring pinch hitter Dan Brouthers and knocking Waddell out of the game. Rollie Fingers didn't add much relief, with three more runs scoring via singles from Williams, Vaughan, and Speaker, putting us a 11-1 with nine outs left in the Enhancers season, unless they got a miracle rally.

Shaq as Barnes as Dugan went with Hong-Chih Kuo for the seventh. He issued a one-out walk to Barry Bonds, but otherwise worked a stress-free inning, taking the Enhancers down to six outs left for a miracle.

Leaving nothing to chance, S-B-D went to Doc White in the eighth. He got a 1-2-3 inning, shutting down Harry Heilmann, Al Rosen, and Joe Mauer, and putting the back-to-back champs down to three outs.

White was the choice again in the ninth. Charlie Gehringer flew out, putting the Enhancers down to two outs left in their season. Miguel Cabrera pinch hit, and was another fly out victim, putting the Enhancers down to one out. Mike Trout singled off White, but Alex Rodriguez was the third fly out of the inning, meaning for the first time in league history, Performance Enhancers were eliminated.

Sisler had three hits, two runs scored, and two RBI. McGraw had two hits, two walks, an RBI and three runs scored. Speaker had two hits and two RBI, and Vaughan had two hits and an RBI.
