Among Latino supporters? He'd do much better than Trump. If Trump can expand his Latino and black voter shares by this much after being openly and active racist against them, then almost any Republican would probably further expand that lead by a lot. I just picked Cruz since he's one of the more likely possibilities.

    THANK YOU

How much more entitled can liberals get about black people where "only" 80% of the black male vote is a disaster, and "macho black men" must be blamed?

I am interested by how much did the black vote increase this year compared to 2016

It's about trends, not entitlement. If Trump can expand so well, then once we have a non-openly-racist Republican nominee expect it go expand much more. It's about 2024 and beyond.

I don't really see your reasoning here. You ever consider that Trump's inroads with these groups is unique to Trump? It might be. What if Latinos actually like Trump going after illegal immigrants? What if American Latinos, ones who are citizens and can actually vote, don't see themselves as the people Trump is talking about? What if legal immigrants don't like illegal immigrants?

Do you have any other reasoning for Cruz?

What if the next Republican just doesn't have whatever Trump has that is drawing more minorities? What if minorities prefer an upfront racist over a behind closed doors racist?

Let’s say that’s the case that’s still not the reason unless your saying they thought Biden was a closet racist so they voted for the open one

Maybe you're right, but I don't think so. We knew where Trump was in 2016.

And I literally just picked Cruz because he was 2nd place in 2016. I could have said Rubio, Bush, etc.

Or, nonwhites have the same right to determine their vote on other issues than racism as whites do. Individual choices and beliefs matter, and whether the Republican candidate is a closet racist or an upfront racist is not always going to be what determines a person's vote.

You want to understand why Trump managed to expand his nonwhite vote despite being a racist? Ask the people who expanded his vote, and listen to their answers.

And the answer, at least why the Latino population here swung to Trump, is abortion and socialism. Becoming more pro-life and more anti-socialism. Not because they like how Trump is racist towards them, which they admit. Which is why a more generic Republican beyond this year has an even better chance due to this trend.

From Pod Save America: the Democrats are losing majority white states like Ohio and Iowa but are not gaining voters in more diverse states—and that has to change if they want to continue to be relevant.

Treating the Latino population as a mass is a mistake. Puerto Ricans are very different voters than Cuban-Americans, and there's a sizeable population of the former in Florida since Trump's failure in Puerto Rico. However, the state has basically treated them like the ex-felons in preventing them from being able to vote (in their case, throw up roadblocks becoming Florida citizens and getting identification to vote).

I would love it if all campaigns, marketing companies, etc. would stop treating any demographic as a monolith.

I am scared of how fast the dem response to Latinos voting trump turned into literal race science. predictable but terrifying. Americans can't even recognize race as a social construct or even that their conceptions of it in the context of Latin America is utterly wrong and idiotic, let alone that they are not monoliths

Definitely not trying to treat them like a mass. But here in Rhode Island, where it's a mix of Central-American, Carribean, and some Mexican-America, and none are a clear majority among the different Latino populations, there was a huge swing to Trump due to the abortion issue and socialism scaremongering. That's all I'm pointing out, that this is something the Democrats need to recognize and not dismiss so they can do better outreach to these communities they're losing. That if it can happen under Trump, it might be even worse next time. That's all I'm saying. That Democrats shouldn't ignore it, be complacent, act entitled to their votes and take them for granted.

They are losing these communities cause they are viewing demographics as communities. That's the big failing there, there is no consensus among Latin Americans on any issue, no more so than there is for "white' people. They need to stop thinking of people from South America as a single demographic, cause those scaremonger things are just as true for pasty Italian/Scots-Irish like my family. They need to reach out to communities period, but by drawing things along race lines with no consideration of how people perceive themselves they are just setting themselves up to pander to a stereotype and not the material interests of a material community. Income, zip-code, race, etc all combined make communities and decide broadstrokes the views present. Dems want a cheat sheet for the "Latinx brain" or whatever. when there is no code to crack, you just have to make people's lives better broadly speaking.

On another note, I had a first grader tell me today how happy she was that “Mr. Biden” won and then added “...and the new Vice President is Brown!” The talk about it being important for kids to see leaders who look like them, has something to it.

I don’t expect racial tensions to get much better under Biden. But he won’t purposefully egg them on like Trump.
