TV Discussion Rangers of the New Republic

I'm curious about the new characters we'll see. I'm assuming we'll see some Mando faces, but I also think the show will get a new lead or two, and some additional side characters.

You need a star or potential star to lead a show like this, who would be the right fit?

 

I think that’s a very bad call. Mediocre actress. Not meant for a lead roll.

 

^ Agreed, she's marginally adequate as an action sidekick character, but she's not ready for the serious acting of a series lead.

 

Bring Timothy Olyphant back. He’s a good actor who has experience leading a TV show already.

 

I’m sure this show will put some real substance to the lawlessness during the New Republic that we’ve seen little bits of in The Mandalorian

Save The Mandalorian for the fight against the empire. Maybe have some episodes with imperial remnants but I’d like this series to really delve deeper into other worlds, other problems which affect places like we saw with Mos Pelgo in episode 9 of Mando.

Bring some politics back into it to show the struggle in realigning everyone after the fall of the empire and how this affects certain planets

 

Spoiler Alert! They fail and the First Order becomes a thing. But it’s okay because they’re only around for a year.

 

I mean the first and final order killed billions of people I wouldn’t call that okay

 

Maybe the "Rangers" are a new Galactic security/peace keeping force to replace the Jedi and they're the reason the Final Order gets beat so quickly across the Galaxy in TROS. Ahsoka could be a Ranger seeking Thrawn. That would explain why she got an escort in the Rebels finale.

Definitely not the best actress, but it's not like she'd be carrying the whole load herself. It would be an ensemble cast.

For mine she's one of the few "believable" female action stars of recent years. Because of her physicality you watch her and actually believe that she can throw stormtroopers around rather than have to suspend disbelief one step further in what is already a silly sci-fi setting by having a 90lb stick beat up trained commandos. But yes that's just me

 

I could really care less so long as the main actors and actresses are good at acting and the story is good. If you got that you got a good show or movie

 

I'm guessing discovering the plan for the First Order will be the whole premise of this series. They are already hinting at it in The Mandalorian;


"There's something going on out here..."
"You will be well rewarded in the new era..."
"...but what they really want is order."

...culminate into a climactic story event.

 

Yup. And nobody ever goes with “marginally adequate” when choosing load-bearing pillars. I’d be OK with her as a side character again. But not a main character. And please give her a new outfit.

 

So is this show confirmed to be taking place pre-TFA? Any idea on what exact time in the timeline this show is happening?

 

Yes. It’s already been confirmed that the show is concurrent with the Mandalorian.

 

They'll travel to Ilum and stumble upon the construction of Starkiller Base! A battle ensues and just as they're about to send a warning to the New Republic, they all die.
Sort of a failed impromptu Rogue One mission.

Hm, so perhaps some actors and actresses with Western experience?

 

Outer Rim antics against the emerging First Order, I reckon?

 

What about casting Michael Biehn as a hero this time?

The Western vibe we've gotten with The Mandalorian is awesome, and I hope they go all out. When I first saw the title "The Rangers of The New Republic" I instantly thought of Texas Rangers.

Anyone else think this show could be the avenue for Hera's live-action entrance? Granted I don't know how involved she would've been with the New Republic or Resistance, and Jacen could've been piloting the Ghost by TROS.
