Gillian Anderson should be a lock on The Crown for her Thatcher.

Chadwick Boseman also seems poised for a posthumous award for best actor and wouldn’t surprise me if Viola Davis also won best actress.

Curious to see if The Mandalorian could have a real shot of winning best tv for drama. Doubt it.

Has Bob Odenkirk actually won for Saul yet? If not, he definitely deserves it for this past season. And I see Rhea Seehorn has been snubbed again for her amazing performance as Kim...

Also, while funny, I really didn’t see The Flight Attendant as a comedy so that just seems odd in the category.

    ... Hamilton? What?

I love me some Hamilton but absolutely not. Filming the stage show does not make it a movie. The Pirates of Penzance getting together on sets with the Broadway cast for the most part and making a film out of it? Sure! This? No.

Very doubtful @Yodaminch as award season is typically time for the film industry to show how hip and cool they are by nominating and selecting stuff nobody saw though that is much more true in film then TV as the selections for best drama as the five nominated were well viewed.

I do think that even if they choose more popular movies and stuff it only help the ratings marginally. There is way too much content out there now to watch on a Sunday evening then to sit and watch a three hour plus award ceremony that often forgotten who won within a year. I know for me I much rather catch up on a show or two then watch the Academy Awards and this year baseball(?) though ironically I much more like having the Oscars in April where they belong instead of February. Why do I care so much about that considering I don't watch the AA? No idea. Maybe because the Oscars being in April feels more like tradition plus it's a good benchmark that spring is arriving.

And no Bob Odenkirk as never won an award for Saul Goodman. Total injustice. Side note, Bob has won two Primetime Emmys as a writer. First for SNL and then later the Ben Stiller Show.

    lol

Actually cool, she had a tough job keeping up with Cohen's antics as a relative newcomer, and she basically stole the show half the time.

Thought the same thing. It seems like comedy is the default landing place for shows they want to nominated that are kind of different or not purely drama like that.

It was a great year for streaming series, a terrible year for movies. Nicholas Hoult should win every award in every category for The Great. He's the best comedy, musical and drama, the best adapted screenplay, and the best visual effect.

Nice to see that John Boyega got nominated for "Small Axe", though. It's the best performance of his career.

My favorite television I saw this year was Ridley Scott's Raised by Wolves, but not surprised that it didn't make GG nominations. I still gotta get around to watching Comey Rule, looks hilariously amazing.

    Disconnected thoughts:

I'm actually kind of surprised to see so much love for Promising Young Woman. It's really good and Mulligan deserves the nomination for sure, but I thought it would be too weird for the big prestige awards like Best Drama or Best Director. Not undeserved, but just surprising.

Also, the Anya Taylor-Joy version of Emma . . . feels like that came out ten years ago.

Can we please PLEASE ******* move on from The Comey Rule? PLEASE IT WAS BAD JEFF DANIELS WAS BAD BRENDAN GLEESON WAS BAD IT WAS BAD

Also, it's not like I'm surprised by the snub or anything, but, I'll be saying it a lot for the next couple of months, so let me get an early start: Elisabeth Moss in The Invisible Man. She just . . . she . . . where? Why is she not here? That was an amazing performance.

I had no idea she was a Scientologist. But looking at her wiki, she has been nominated for 4 GGs, and won two of them.

She's a big time Scientologist, but I think the snub just has to do with it being a horror film.

I wasn't aware of her being a Scientologist either, but, yeah, it's because it was a horror movie, most likely. If it had just been a movie about an abusive relationship without the sci-fi/horror element and she had given a performance of that caliber, she probably would have gotten a nomination.

Giving Promising Young Woman a watch finally tonight, although Golden Globes nominations are always based upon graft and schemes to like a dozen people but how they can snob and get bags of swag in a virtual ceremony. I am somewhat torn on GG best comedy between Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and Palm Springs, they're both fantastic and both have a good bit so say about 2020 although Palm Springs was basically entirely by accident and Borat entirely by design. Still, Palm Springs is fantastic time loop movie. Go sci-fi comedy!

Surprised nobody is throwing out stuff at Tenet (not that it's top tier Nolan or anything), I'm giving it a rewatch sometime next week-ish but you'd figure just Nolan's name alone and his "save theatres by releasing my blockbuster" would earn goodwill.

Oscars will be interesting, it seems Nomadland is picking up steam for best picture but the last few years of Academy Awards winners have basically been "pick whoever is in second place!"

Yeah, Tenet got a nom for best score and I think that's probably the one you can make the best case for out of these categories. And I'm a fan of Tenet, but I just wouldn't consider it worthy of any of the other categories really, not that I've seen everything. Possibly Elizabeth Debicki for Best Supporting Actress; I feel that I could make a decent case for that and they nominated Glenn Close for Hillbilly Elegy in that category, so . . .
