Gina Carano/Cara Dune debacle

Gina Carana who played Cara Dune on the Mandalorian was recently sacked by Disney/Lucasfilm on the basis of her politics, with certain posts on social media being given as the reason, though it doesn't seem she said anything that controversial, especially compared to things put out by her co-stars and others whose employment remained secure. Disney/Lucasfilm have been widely accused of operating a double-standard as a result of this. The unfortunate turn of events seems to have cost them much of the good will that had been built up among Star Wars fans with the more respectful treatment of the source material in the Mandalorian. Kathleen Kennedy also got downvoted by a ratio of about 100-1 when shortly after this she spoke in a video on the Oscars YT channel about female achievement in Hollywood. She was accused of hypocrisy for firing a genuinely strong, independent woman, who resisted conforming to the prevailing group-think.

I was getting quite interested in getting into the Mandalorian, but all this, and the apparent climate of bias and bullying at Lucasfilm has dispelled that enthusiasm. Could it have been avoided? Will this be a blip, or will the future of the franchise generally and the series specifically be affected by this?

 

She wasn't fired by on the basis of her political views. She was fired for spreading lies and false information about the pandemic and for posting election conspiracies all over her social media, even after it's been proven there was no election fraud. These things will get you terminated from any job, really.

 

Plus the Jewish comment didn’t help her either.
