Now that I actually have everything, I need to do a beginning-to-end watch.
I remember printing up on accordion printer paper the annotated script for FirecWalk With Me in college, that included the cut scenes. I still have it, somewhere...

 

"Wisteria" is the working title for David Lynch's upcoming Unrecorded Night, which may or may not have Twin Peaks connections...

 

Yeah, but that might be a Desperate Housewives thing too. Frankly, a David Lynch reboot of Desperate Housewives would also be great...

 

Oh, hang on... Kyle isn't the first one to tease this, either. Here's Heidi from the RR:

Agreed. I found The Return's ending to be phenomenal.

That being said, whatever this winds up being, I'm sure I'm going to completely lap it up.

Twin Peaks on Crave channel 3 at 9 PM in Canada every day (S1 ep2 was on today) till what is probably the entire run of the series. So would take until like early May to go through the whole show with one episode a day. I know what I'm watching at 9 every day!

Yes, I’ve watched it several times over the last year or two.

 

The music is so beautiful and the way Angelo told the story and how happy David was about it actually made me tear up.

I'm due for a rewatch of the series.

 

Is it still on Netflix? Wish the movie and Return was cause I don’t have Showtime anymore.

 

So because I just finished my rewatch yesterday (actually my first rewatch since The Return aired) and need to vent it a bit to get it out of my system - man, I love the finale so much. I know people can spend hours dissecting it, but for just pure visceral impact it doesn’t get much better. As I read it, it might be my favorite of all of the broad category of Lynch “it was all a dream” endings specifically because it subverts itself right at the last minute. The trappings of a Mulholland Drive-style “oh, we’re in the real world now, things suck, that’s life” conclusion are all there, Cooper’s way more aggressive, Diane was possibly just some sort of prostitute, there is no Laura Palmer, the white horse is just a decoration on the mantelpiece, Twin Peaks is some run-down dump, we’ve seen this movie in a somewhat literal sense… and then you find out the Palmer home was owned by Chalfont and Tremond. Mrs. Tremond. Right as it hits you, it hits Cooper. Something is very wrong here. He’s confounded by something as basic as what year it is. What if this is the dream? A voice from nowhere and then that final, gloriously Twin Peaks-y scream.

Of course for Lynch the answer is probably that it’s all a dream and it’s incorrect to prioritize a specific “reality” (incidentally this is what I think The Return handles better than any other Lynch attempt at conveying the significance of dreams to what he might argue is erroneously asserted to be the waking world), but still, damn. If it’s really the final grand statement of his career I think it’s as good as he could have hoped for.
