Lets continue with the 5th: the White Scars! So we say that you have your DIY Chapter and know that they WS successors but not really much more about them and want to create some lore about them.

I would say that the WS have the same themes during the HH as during 40k: Mongols during their expansionistic period main theme; with Eurasian steppe nomads (all of them, even if when it comes to haircuts is the Cossacks notable as the inspiration for the old upgrade heads), and hunters as the secondary themes.

With the first theme would a full focus on the that not really create something that would be that notably different from the White Scars in many aspects, unless you make a big thing about them not being hunters, or focus on parts of the Mongols during that era that the WS ignores. But if we take a look at variations of this theme do we have a gold mine, the Mongols spread out over a large area and split up in many groups who went notably different ways. What about a chapter based on the Golden Horde, or the Yuan dynasty of China, or the Khanate of Bukhara, or the Timurid Empire? There is lots of stuff, over a long time to use out there, and you can blend it how you want. There is also the many pop-cultural depictions of the Mongols that you can mine, maybe base a Chapter on the Vampire: The Dark Ages RPG supplement Wind From the East?

When it comes to the Eurasian steppe nomads there are a lot of them, some of them associated with the Mongols, other not. What about Chapter mostly based on the Russian Cossacks and their culture of being a free-people while also being loyal subjects to the crown? Or we could take the theme and move it a bit in time, and look at the horse nomads during the Hellenistic era, maybe WS successor that take much of it inspiration from the Scythians? Or we could move north and look at the nomadic/semi-nomadic peoples of Siberia. There is also of course the Huns, here we have not just the historical stuff but also lots of fiction or propagandistic writings about them that can be used. They were also the villains in Disney's animated Mulan movie, I have no idea if those Huns have anything to do with the real Huns, but they can be used for inspiration in either cause. Or maybe create a Chapter theme around the concept of the Silk Road.
You could also twist it a bit more and just look at mounted nomad/semi-nomadic culture anywhere, maybe a WS successor based on the Tuaregs, or the Bedouins, or the American plain tribes, or Gauchos, etcetera.

When it comes to hunting, we have many hunting cultures, even if many of them are more of go out find easy prey and bring back food than hunters of monster and warrior which is more what the WS theme is about. So here we probably more have to look into mythology and fiction for inspiration. What about a Chapter that is inspired by the pop-cultural idea of the Wild Hunt, probably something Celto-Germanic in culture? Or maybe something based on Moby Dick, there are lots of culture, personalities, and quirks there that can be blended together to create a Chapter. We can also take a look at other games for inspirations, both Warhammer Fantasy and Age of Sigmar have groups whose main theme is as monster hunters (a WS Chapter based around WF’s vampire/witch hunters could be interesting), and DnD have throughout their editions had more than one Prestige Class that really specialise in hunting monsters, maybe use on of them for inspiration?

Any thoughts? Any WS themes I missed or clear examples I should have used?

Also, lets remember that unlike the DA are not the WS an exception to the 2:nd Tenet of ADB, so there is nothing that stops you from creating a WS successor that is very different from WS in temperament, culture and/or warfare. So if you already have a concept for you successor beside their lineage do you not need this list.

I'd love to a Sarmartian or Khazarian inspired WS.successor. both Calvary cultures with connections to Eurasia(the Sarmitians being Originally from Northern Iran, the Khazars being a Turkic tribe) but associated with Europe.

So they would have similar tactical build, being a rapid response mostly mounted force without that many Terminator or Dreadnought units but they would have a bit different cultural reference. Like there Ships rather than look like Gothic churches look like Eastern Orthodox Churches with the Domes. Or if Khazar inspired and look like Synagogues like the Grand Choral Synagogue in Moscow.

Have the officers in Artificer armor styled to look like Scale mail.

    Boxed.games where today.

New Eldar faction for Direquest. Marine animal theme.

house Delaque book and models for Necromunda. Looks wonderfully weird. Short tease of Game play for Necromunda Hired gun video game.

Then they troll us Space Marine players by showing a plastic. thunder hawk gunship..they then pull back and its Aeronautica Imperialis meaning its 1/4 the size of.40k version(which is resin, from Forgeworld.and 800 USD when its.available,q and when combined with high points costs mean you rarely see it at a game, tends to be a display model for most who have one) Aeronautica is getting a new edition. This box set introduces Space Marines and Craft world Eldar to the game (which already has Imperial Navy, Tau, and Orks). Teasing eventual plastic Thunder hawk for 40k.

No news on any possible restock of Cursed City or anything Blood bowl.

All the talk about Delaque finding out secrets and interrogating and using stuff that are really not kosher, make me wonder how they would look in Dark Angel green...

Some of them would make good chapter serf models or even better the kit bashed into PDF for a world that is a DA controlled planet. Dark Angels and other space marines chapters that are fleet based and no longer have their own homeworlds tend to have some type of control over the systems that they recruit from(see the Piscinia System from the Purging of Kallidus). These worlds are technically imperial but have small garrisons on the chapter on them and are nor subject to Imperial Tithes. They are essentially in A Feudal arrangement with the Space Marine Chapter who protects the world in exchange for recruits, supplies, and loyalty

    This weeks projects.

    Horus heresy army.

Cataphracti Terminator Praetor done up as Holguin, Voted Lieutenant of the Death wing.

Legion Mark IV command set. Minor kitbashes as I am.replacing the stock heads with third party conversion bits to make them more Dark angels.

The Centurion in this is bareheaded holding helmet in one arm, I am going.to replace the stock head with a spell row hooded knight head with a beard to make the character seem older.

The standard bearer is going to get a Shape ways winged helmet with the wings transverse

The ones where the wings are not front to back sideways.

Do people think that a Navigator house that have worked for a special imperial organisation for generation (the navy, a specific Chapter, etc.) should over time have adopted some of the trapings/culture from the group that they have been with for so long?

Some have. House Bellarrius does a bit. They have the Space Wolves wolf head symbol in their banners. The Wolf blade trains and lewrs their household troops and some of the Characters seem to have names that have a Viking/Space Wolf influence. Mind you the Wolf blade are 40k's take on the Varangian Guard(Belasarius was the name of a prominent Byzantine.

In the DA stuff in the heresy novels the chief navigator of the DA fleet from House Nio'cene is trusted by the Lion at the same level as his most trusted Astartes officers as she knows about the Tulchura device and the Lion is actually pretty kind to her compared to his normal interactions with non Astartes(who he tends to be dismissive of)

I am pretty sure they tend to wear chapter colors and even have chapter tattoos one them in other novels. The DA ones in stuff like Angels of Darkness are described wearing green robes. The Ultra marine allied ones blue.

Just an update I decided to change out the sword and arm on the centurion to a longer blade with more of a hand and a half look from.the Mark III upgrade kit as the other blade was too short(more of a gladius). I just wish the helmet on the centuriom was nor attached to the left arm and cloak bit as I would have like to swaped out the helmet for a more DA style one(the current one is very Greco-Roman with a crest which is great for Ultra marine, World Eaters, or Sons of Horus but not for the 1st legion)

Also a great thing about Horus Heresy.

The non legion specific banner bearers (actually I believe onLy the Imperial fists get a Legion specific one) banners are blank and the Heresy transfer sheets come with Transfers for them. That is much better because painting banners is A pain in the butt(I hated the back banners on Safari and Ezekiel for my 40k army)

Maybe the big secret of House Delaque is that they are all acolytes to Inquisitor Obiwan Sherlock Cluseau [face_thinking]

    @Gamiel

Several of those gentlemen need to REPENT.

Brother Asmodai would like to know there location particularly the gentleman in the first image. The plasma and bolt pistol duel wielding guy is of particular interest to our chapter.

This weeks Heresy Dark angels are coming along nicely.

Waiting for a wash to dry on the cloth bits so I can go back and pending the green up

To make the Praetor In Cataphacti standard bearer and the Centurion stand aloud a bit more from my army I went with green cloth for their capes instead of red or bone white. The centuriom is a Spellcrow hooded space knights helmet with a beard so I painted him first in bugmans glow as the base and then with Cadian flesh tone to lighten it. Then foe the beard I used my own a a referende (a dirty blond color aka blond to tends toward brown). Which is pretty simple zandri dust a brownish ochre color than two washes of argax earthshade. His hoodie is caliban green. He has a winged eagle but there is a heraldic shield with a skull over the eagle head on the model so I did the eagles wings in red and the shield will be done in gold..the Roman style belt will be dome in doom bull brown. So this guy is going to have a nice bit of color to go with the black plate. Your will actually be the the 2nd most colorful guy in my armor after the Lion himself(who used a good deal of gold trim on top of black, red and green)

I am going to do the chain mail bits on the terminator praetor with a method in saw online. Base in dawnstone grey than wash to dark it down in the recesses

So the !mystery was a new edition of AOS.

Fine with it even though I do not play that game but really sad nothing for the horus heresy game. At this point the have released more hobbits for the Middle Earth game this year than Horus Heresy(we got two word bearers this year last year we got two 3 dark angels units).

It seems when Alan Bligh passed they decided not to support the game.

More to my understanding that with Alan Bligh gone do they lack some of the energy to support the game as much as they did before, to my understanding so is Forge World less then ten people, and the have to do a lot.

It's likley more of a "we don't have anything prepared right now", than a "we don't support this anymore"

The sad part about that is there are something like 65 novels in short stories and more to come set in the heresy now. They have published 9 campaign books for the game. AND THERE IS A SINGLE PRIMARCH LEFT TO RELEASE, who the next novel is going to star(The Khan) and we got nothing not even a hint at a future announcement.

I have been reading more about the Khan and he is quickly eclipsing Dorn as my Second favourite of the Primarchs and the fact that he has no model in the heresy is criminal especially when his legion has some of the coolest models in the Heresy game.

I mean look at these guys

There beautiful models with unique weapons. I love my 1st legion but these guys are awesome
