It is time again. The pandemic cancelled the ESC20, but now it's finally time for Rotterdam to host the whole spectacle.

As a reminder this was the winning song in 2019

The ESC as is now usual takes places in three parts. Semi-final 1 on Tuesday, semi-final 2 on Thursday and then the big final on Saturday.

This time I'm going in to the whole competition a bit unprepared, so I will hear the songs for the first time when I see them on TV.

Are you ready for the ESC?

As usual Belgium plans on putting up a song that could make it into the top four but not win. Not worth the cost of hosting it.:p[face_laugh]

And as usual Sweden has a solid pop piece, but we are not going to win because people are sick of Sweden sending well produced numbers without soul (and I don't blame them)

Who was it that won about a decade ago with the heavy metal piece? Thought it was Finland but cannot remember anymore.

It was Finland with Lordi - Hard Rock Halleluja, and it's actually 15 years ago so more than a decade.

Oh y ah, I knew it was at least a decade but couldn't remember how long or who. Thank you for clarifying.

I would not say that it's without soul but don't think we will win since while it's well produced is it nothing special or have anything that rerally grab you.

This has been an absolute slog. Ever since that song won the song contest has been in the news over here. For two years. The guy they got to sing a song last year is entering again this year so he's been in the news for over a year as well, in his pajamas, with his songs that don't stand a chance.

I'll be very happy when it's finally over.

The Swedish artist, Tusse, is a local, so the all the local news have been about him ever since he won the Swedish qualification.

I may be bad about it but I usually don't watch until Saturday and the final.

I like the semi-finals, since usually that is where you find the bad/strange entries that get weeded out before the final.

And then of course it was the only chance of hearing Verona (still upset about it not going to the final in 2017, it was one of the best songs of the year).

Did every country do this? The Czech Republic entry is also the same artist as last year. I'm not big on his song but the music video has a brief reference to The Simpsons so I will die for its honor and by extension my country of residence I guess.

I think Belgium has the same group that was supposed to go last year but have a new song this year.

Edit: Yes, just checked, it's Hooverphonic again, as they were to go last year, but yes a different song than the one they had last year.

Countries were allowed to send the same artist, but not with the same song.

    Ugh! You're not joking.
I love this guy. I hope it works out.

As for returnees... No UNO from Russia.
They probably would have won in 2020.

Russia decided to not win this year. They have this year a singing cone from which a woman suddenly bursts.

    And we are on!

Not too bad of a start. It definitely has some retro vibes, but is also fun. And "dance alone" are something a lot of people can relate to now.

    That was yellow.

The song ain't bad, but not anything special if you ask me. Nice dance moves and good camera work.

This sounds like a standard ESC ballad, and I don't think her voice is strong enough for it.
    I'm bored already.
